How did you lose weight?

jademonkey19 · 41-45, T
Lost 225 pounds during the pandemic and have managed to keep it off. Lots of exercise in the form of walks, runs, and pilates - and more critically, a total overhaul of my diet.

Start by eating the same things you always do, but much smaller portions. Embrace leftovers.

Prioritize progress over perfection. Be patient.

The most important thing was fixing my diet. Knowing what I'm eating and tracking calories in and out.
Fatalice · 41-45, F
Wow that’s amazing I just couldn’t do it@jademonkey19
Badfeeder · 36-40, M
@Fatalice not for you dear. You know what you need to do…and it’s not to lose…
@jademonkey19 That’s very impressive. 👍🏽
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I dropped 40 lbs, 22 in the first month. I eased up in the second two months and lost another 18.

Drop the carbs and sugar. Eat protein and vegetables, no fruit. That was over three years ago. I’m much less strict with my diet now. I haven’t gained a pound.

I workout daily without fail and have for just under the past 1200 days, no exceptions. I also take private martial arts lessons, weekly, and have for roughly the past decade. From June through October, I swim everyday as well.

But, the best way to assure success “quitting” any bad habit…?

Tell the little f’ing devil on your left shoulder to stfu.
Go be productive.
Live hard, love hard and enjoy.

I found that walking two or even three times a day, (fast walking while being pulled by a dog), AND going to Planet Fitness, AND eating the same meals as the elderly people at the nursing home where I was working at the time, peeled off the pounds.

The nursing home owner used to allow the nursing and other staff to have whatever food was leftover from the residents dinner. All made up nicely on plates. All we had to do was open the fridge.
All the few times I’ve lost between 7-20 lbs on purpose was because I cut out cakes, chocolate, alcohol, food that had too much fat or salt, too much sauce on food and only eating bread once a day. I ate, yoghurt, fruit and peanuts for a snack. I walk for an hour a day which keeps it off but I lost weight when I walk for 2 hours a day.

ate less and changed diet

in 2013 i gained about 25 pounds / didn't like the direction I was going and just ate less and ate better.

cut out most sugars, cut back on bread, smaller portions I dropped the 25 pounds and 10 more pounds wiithin 6 months.

I worked out from the time I was overweight to post weight loss and realized what I already academically knew--it was way more about diet than exercise.

I am 5foot 9 and 154 pounds as of right now. been that way for a while.
Went back to studying kung fu. I took a 20 year break. I took it up as a kid and though out highschool and my career in the Navy.

But I got lazy and lost my focus on life, but now I'm back on track
Ducky · 31-35, F
I've never really been overweight, but I've stayed in shape through a number of exercise routines over the years. From jogging, to dancercising, to yoga.
Bri89 · 31-35, M
Stop consuming sugar and walk. But I tried losing weight only to discover I need sugar for energy and if I don't have it i don't have energy at all.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Bri89 that feeling of u don't have any energy would go away after 3 or 4 day's. They don't really tell u how addictive coffee or pop can be.
Bri89 · 31-35, M
@smileylovesgaming This was happening way after 3 or 4 days.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Bri89 it could take longer the more addictive you are to it
I cut out sugar and cut back on carbs. Plus I started walking in my neighborhood when the weather allowed it; on my treadmill when it didn’t. I lost 50 lbs in about four months.
Switched to a low carb, higher protein diet at about a 400 calorie deficit per day and got more exercise consistently over time. Trying to get more sleep as well.
Iwillwait · M
I'm on the opposite end as we speak.

I lost before by not eating past 6pm, no donuts, not pastries or bread. Fasting two days a week.
Pfuzylogic · M
I was eating too many danish while teaching commercial printers.
I first stopped eating any desserts and then limited myself to one glass of milk a day until I lost 15 pounds.
I jogged quite a bit.
@Pfuzylogic i love the french cheese danishes 😅
Pfuzylogic · M
@SStarfish They take on a life of their own! I was working for Scitex (an Israeli tech company in 2001) I was part of the training staff and all breakfast items were free. After that I learned a bit of discipline with my sweets appetite! 😁
KatyO83 · 41-45, F

KatyO83 · 41-45, F
@MrAverage1965 I find it quiet meditative actually
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
@KatyO83 That's good I used to run many years ago and always enjoyed it
helsbels · 31-35, F
Walking, drinking water, changing diet, increasing exercise. Cut out empty calories entirely (cakes, biscuits). Low carb, low sugar...

Adogslife · 61-69, M
@helsbels nice before and after. you must be proud of your accomplishments 💪🏻
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M

thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
I stopped drinking and started working out every day.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Two ways work to lose it to start with, intermittent fasting or cut out the carbs, you cut out sugar or things that turn into sugar which means protein and health fats. These are the two that actually work.
By not eating so much fattening foods and working out a lil 😬 i need to lose more maybe tho idk im undecided sometimes
GerOttman · 61-69, M

Did I?
Yes, once upon a time when I used to work out 4 hours a day 6 days a week.
Low carbs and a lot of cardio
@Musicman thanks, bud. Probably put some yrs on my life. I was at risk for diabetes before losing the weight.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@YourMomsSecretCrush Pre diabetes is what made me lose weight. ☹
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@YourMomsSecretCrush Good for you man!
OverTheHill · 61-69, M
Weight watchers and exercise.

TinyViolins · 31-35, M
Got a job as an Amazon driver. They work you like a rented red-headed mule. Lost 30 lbs in 6 months.
meggie · F
Cut out bread, butter, crisps, biscuiis, puddings and increased protein intake.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@meggie How much have you lost?
meggie · F
@Musicman half to a stone. When my weight starts to creep up, I diet for a few weeks. And then have a couple of diet days a week. I suppose I keep my weight in check.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@meggie That's actually a very good idea. Well done! 🙂
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
I changed my diet and started exercising more. I've lost 36 pounds so far.
@Musicman another way to lose weight is to lose your job and be suicidal

I lost over 10 lbs like that once just because I didn't feel like eating or care if I lived or died 👍
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@OrionInTheNight I am so sorry to hear that 😢 I hope everything is better now.
