Exercise does it for me. In fact, consistent workouts 5 + days a week keep me pleasantly calm most of the time.
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@Sacron22 I might try that.

atlantic59 · 61-69, M

Morrigan · F
I use art journaling which works really well for me
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@Morrigan That’s something I try to do pretty regularly. It’s a great way to keep my thoughts from getting tangled up in my head.
Morrigan · F
@QueenOfTheNerds it definitely is, i find it is like a big whole process for me so stops my worry thoughts.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
2 fingers of my best cognac
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@samueltyler2 I figured someone would suggest this. I don’t drink, though.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@QueenOfTheNerds i also find dark chocolate sometimes helps.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
Exercise, breathing, listening to music

Exercise really helps the adrenaline out tbh
Even if its just doing silly dancing
Its my go to when stressed
Or a spliff lol
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@OogieBoogie I do have my weight under control....so not that worried about the sugar.....more questioning the cravings.

@Gangstress Fresh fruit is my go to as well as Chocolate (Dark 70%)
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@KiwiBird
I love dark chocolate 🍫 the bitterness oh yes
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@Gangstress I forgot to add dark chocolate icecream....lol.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I do some quirky things. Like taking a sheet of notebook paper and writing in cursive in mirror image filling up the entire page. For some reason it helps. I also like to take a thin Sharpie and doodle scrolls and vines and flowers, filling in the doodles with highlighter colors…or take plastic grocery bags and cut them into strips and crochet them into balls, stuffing the insides with more grocery bags. They make good stress balls or good nerf-ball substitutes to toss around in the house. I also like to go outdoors and sit out in the sun and let it warm my face. Or drive out to the lake and sit and watch the water sparkle and listen to the sounds around me….birds, fish flopping up out of the water, boats on the lake etc. A Sunday drive is also good.
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti your alone time is now your creative artist time🙂
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@atlantic59 that could be a lot of fun. I used to do decoupage with old glass bottles and jars, a cigar box one time and some other things.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@atlantic59 I started doing that on my first break after seeing 9-1-1 live on TV at work. Every break and lunch period I took my spiral notebook and colored markers and did scrolls and doodles. And I did it for an entire year. The stress of hearing that just overwhelmed my mind. I also didn’t watch any national news for an entire year. I had a very strong feeling for a week before 9-1-1 that something tragic was going to happen and it would be broadcast all over the world and affect us in various ways. On the Sunday before it happened my sister called me. I told her something big was going to happen and it was going to be tragic. She said “I have enough to take care of today to worry about tomorrow”….basically blew off what I told her. The day after it happened she calls excitedly and says “You were right, you were right!!!” I told her I’d never tell her anything like that again and hung up.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
I have two. Neither has ever failed me.

For mild to moderate stress, I go for a run. The stress level determines the distance. I've done as much as ten miles to relieve stress

But for really big stress headaches where your head is about to explode... I beat the ever living shit outta my practice dummy. Works every time. 🙂 🥋

@sarabee1995 do you only try that on practice dummies?

@nedkelly 🙄
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@ExtremeNext I don't think dressing like that would help me feel less stress but I know a lot of folk on SW swear by it!
NickyLee · 41-45
It's probably going to sound really stupid, and its not something I would typically ever let anyone know, but it's my odd go to..... Whenever I'm stressed out, I'll take my one car out for a drive, then park somewhere quiet and leave the engine running. This particular car is 40 years old and it shakes and vibrates a lot while its idling, which relaxes me every time.
I will also admit that it has had a very different effect with a few women who were with me times when i forgot to turn off the engine after parking somewhere, but thats another story.
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@NickyLee your car may be an energy machine that creates fond memories
Oneofthestormboys · 100+, M
Play guitar. Best stress relief in the world. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a maestro, it’s always great to create music.
akindheart · 61-69, F
i take these Chinese herbs and they work. but i work out at the gym. that helps me sleep
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@akindheart plus you live healthy and don't have evil in your heart. You probably even dance under the moonlight
akindheart · 61-69, F
@atlantic59 that is very sweet of you. i am usually in bed early so no dancing for me.
Canuckle · 51-55, M
I have this Muse gadget the wife and kids bought me. It’s used in conjunction with meditative sounds. You let your mind go and just relax to the sound of the odd bird chirping. It’s very relaxing. This won’t help you much.

I do a check in with myself and then confront what comes up. Challenge it.

I also do a visual thing pretending there are windshield wipers in front of my eyes and when the thought comes up I turn on the windshield wiper and wipe it away.

Listen to Meditation Oasis this one when I’m struggling
[media=https://youtu.be/YZK2R5afZ90]

I listen to Calm Radio Classical music to calm myself.

Scents can work. I use incense to settle myself.

Go for a walk and talk to the trees. I know it sounds weird, but it may help.

Talking with someone that will listen and not respond also helps. I never like to be fixed when in the state I’m presuming that you’re experiencing.

I know you’ve tried most of the above. I hope you feel better soon.

Freeranger · M
Well, as you already know, for me it's traipsing off across the river in to the woods, or a brief ride to the shore's edge and a bench with an outlook.
For you my friend, my hope is that you have a close friend you can spend some ftf with.....breakfast/lunch date?
Here where I live, within an hour or so's drive, we have a wild animal place where, wild animals either who have been brought in for rehab, or animals whom for whatever reason cannot be reintroduced in to the wild have a home. I know you love of animals buddy, and maybe a respite....a trip to one of those if you have one not overly far away might be a balm.
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@Freeranger Thank you, my friend. ❤️ All good suggestions.
Breathing techniques, (2, 4, 7 technique), fresh ginger tea, (only coz i love it), rest and ASMR, or listening to stories or podcasts.

Im kinda a lazy git when it comes to exercise, but i hope to change that.

Moslty its just bout relaxing my body and mind, reminding it what relaxation is ....being loose.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@OogieBoogie podcasts have helped massively. Good shout
😊👍@Gangstress...although, to be honest....i rarely get to hear them out to the end😅.....😴
But the miscellaneous shit ive learned is AMAZING!😂

Exercise, you will increase your filtration rate through your liver..by default, detoxifying your blood of you stress hormones.

Alone time, in a dark room. I sometimes get headaches from my neck so I'll press my thumb pretty hard into the sore muscles which hurts but then relieves the tension
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@deadgerbil Yes, definitely.
Pfuzylogic · M
I used to stretch using the downward dog and warrior pose from yoga. Not into the spiritualism of yoga but the stretches do work.
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@Pfuzylogic Great suggestions. I used to do yoga regularly, but not lately. I can see how those poses would help.
Pfuzylogic · M
@QueenOfTheNerds I used it to prepare for my weekly runs. They warm the muscles up!
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I try to find out the reason behind the stress and try not to do it
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline Transferribg an Llc from my deceased mom’s name into mine. Dealing with banks and lawyers and all sorts of government agencies. Unavoidable, but necessary stress.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
Exercise helps me a lot. Or being outside, especially if I can see the horizon, like on top of a hill or at the beach.

Drink beer.

Rain sounds on Spotify, laying out in backyard, a long drive in the woods
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
For me it’s exercise or playing my favourite music loudly
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@Jenny1234 Loud music is definitely one of my top stress relievers.
Nothing really works except for getting the stressors over with.
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@NerdyPotato Absolutely. I know the stress will be less in time, but the timeline is out of my control. I think that adds to the stress of the situation.
serana · 22-25, F

Exercise. Something physical. Even a walk through the woods or wrestling the hounds.
Long drives and heavy metal music. Sorry, I’m weird.
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@Pinkstarburst Not weird at all. Sometimes you need to calm and soothe, others you need to vent some of that frustration.
@QueenOfTheNerds The music drowns out the thoughts. I have to focus on the road when driving so that also redirects.
subhubby · 56-60, M
For me it’s exercise and meditation/ relaxation music.
