What’s the worst thing you’ve smelled…..?

Dead body. My stepdad was a contractor, I’d help him out on occasion. Showed up at one apartment where the deceased had been recently removed. You never forget that smell.

Burned human flesh.
Rotting deep skin ulcers. To the bone.
Purulent skin infections.
Upper GI bleed.
Flesh eating disease.

certain chemicals. i cant remember what they are though. just that is was worse than all natural smells.

worst i've smelled was the stench that filled the hot, humid and almost windless air after hurricane Katrina that lasted for weeks and weeks. the sources were many

NORI's cat litter I am sure would be a close second at times ....

it izzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. disgustamating .....

I honestly wretched a couple of times during the last cleaning .....

But worst smell without a doubt was when I worked in public sanitation as a part-time high school gig ..... and we were responsible for picking up commercial restaurant garbage in the middle of the summer ....

I won't go into great detail, by 40 Celsius temp , mixed with deep fryer grease , mixed with organic restaurant waste is not for the faint.

I used to live in a small apartment building. The boys who lived upstairs kept a trash barrel right outside the back door, and didn't seal it properly. All winter it sat there and stewed. It got filled up with water, it froze, then, the next summer, it started stinking to high heaven. The boys simply [i]would not[/i] touch it or dump it, so it took the delicate little lady who lived downstairs to do their dirty work.

I overturned the barrel onto the lawn. The water drained out onto the grass. The stench that emerged was not to be described. I said to myself...God, and the fresh air, and the earth will...eventually...take care of it. BUT there was a big garbage bag inside.

My big mistake was in not leaving it out on the lawn, also, to de-stink itself. It was crawling with maggots. But I was afraid animals would get into it and scatter it...and that would be worse.

So I put on rubber gloves, spread a tarp out in my trunk in my car, and got the bag into my trunk.

By the time I got to the dump, the bag had leaked rotten maggoty effluvia all over the tarp, and then that had leaked onto the carpet in my trunk.

I had to pay $125.00 to have the trunk of my car oxygenated to kill the stink, and the carpet had to be Natures Miracled. Loads of fun.

in Catholic school there was a Ginko tree by the bus stop. when the fruit dropped it smelled like vomit/. was sickening

I worked in a large shop a while back. I was in the cookware department and a regular customer walked along the aisle and quite openly produced a very long, decadent fart. It was eye-watering. You could almost see the odour and it lingered for approximately 20 minutes. One of my colleagues christened the deliverer of this putrid output "Brown Ale" and we referred to him as that for ever more.

Barf..., when I see someone doing it, the smell triggers me and I'll want to do it also.

Something you`ll never forget.

Emptying a freezer full of spoiled meat. A lightning strike fried it. But I didn’t discover what had happened for over a week. The stench was unreal.

Rotten food waste.Not sure what was in it.

But It hit me like a brick to my nose.

Only one smell has ever made me damn-near vomit in my life and that was in a department at my workplace that had some kind of mold or mildew in the walls that just made the whole department smell [b]awful.[/b] I don't know how those in that department could keep working in there all day long. I nearly threw up just from passing through it!

Highway 2 north of Edmonton and a truck that was full of what I can only describe as rotted out pig offal had a complete spill on the highway.

It was like 25 years ago if not more than that and the smell still lingers with me. Just HORRIFIC.

A buddy on an ambulance squad responded to a plane down and he knew the instant he smelled burning human flesh what it was .

Trail riding, saw a cooler left by the trail. Opened it out of curiosity, it was full of rotting fish.

A whale 🐋 that was washed up on a beach the smell was so horrible I could taste it .In fact I can taste it now 🤢

Gross. Mine was a beaver in a similar state. Fortunately I got to leave it where it was.
