I’m going to share a story
I lived a very hard life. My entire life was a struggle. When I was growing up my step dad was physically and verbally abusive. My mom was an alcoholic whose temper tantrums were so extreme I was always house hopping from my grandmothers to my moms. I remember crying because I felt like I had no one. When I was a child I started acting out at school so much that my parents sent me to a private Christian school.
I grew up in a “Christian” household but I never truly understood what it meant to be a Christian. Not only did I find god but I found hope. I had hope that my life was going to get better and it did. It always did. As a child the notion of hell is terrifying but I am a Christian because I love god and appreciate him for always being there for me when I needed him the most and for never abandoning me
The day i was saved I felt like the darkness inside me disappeared and was replaced with an eternal burning candle of a comforting happiness
When I got older I struggled with mental illness and eating disorders. I actually got ran over by a car during a purging episode. Purging can manifest as heavy exercise as well. When I got hit by that car I got in the ambulance and this perfect haze took over my field of view. And I saw visions of bills coming in and out of view. I saw money being printed in factories. And I also saw people gathering cotton in a field.
I cried and asked god to spare my life not because I deserves or wanted to live but to be with my 5 month old baby that my husband was too incompetent to raise himself with his incompetent family
I heard a voice say “ you place so much importance on money and bills. there’s so much more to your life than that” I felt a sensation of calm come over me and I knew I was going to survive my car accident
It was the greatest day of my life. I’m pretty sure god talked to me.
I am a believer out of love not fear. To fear god is to respect god which I do also

@DeluxedEdition Thank you for your witness, beautiful story! God puts us through fire to refine us just like Gold. How can we love people if we have never been through hard times? Or understand what other people are going through? God has strengthened you! And he has equipped you for service. Our lives are about serving others. God will take care of your bills if you put him first. "My own will never beg for bread he says"
God bless you!

Being Native American I revere Nature and the energy of the Universe not fear some deity that threatens hell to people.
Carazaa · F
@Peaceandnamaste Yeah How dare God tell us we can't be racist, hateful, rapists, and murderers! We can kill people but we can tell him he is judgmental if he kills us...😂
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@Carazaa Why does God allow people to be raped and molested if he's "good"? If I was God I would stop a child from being molested and abused by a predator.
Carazaa · F
@Peaceandnamaste God is not a micromanager of every person, unless you have a personal relationship with Jesus because you have faith. God didn't die on the cross for nothing, and for people to ignore him.

For sure, you are creating and destroying the verses and the teaching for your own manipulation but I think more like you are being manipulated by Satan. Why so?
I have never seen a person as liberal as Jesus Christ putting last stone down which was supposed to be thrown at that women who was a sinner. He forgave her going out of the norms and the society. Norms were recreated by him which is err absolutely Liberal in nature.
Healing on sabbath is another example of breaking the societal strict rules and at that time, surely, it would have been the biggest crime but still he was liberal in his approach.
He walked with Mary and didn't even think of people like you would make Mary his lover at some point of time. He gave you enough gunpowder which people capitalize in Novels such as that of Dan Brown.
If it were all fake, Even a king won't add Mary's name to it as A king even in 1700s knew the psychology of Gen pop like you.
Jesus is the Living God
And i have personally felt every bit of it. Unlucky are those who do not get to see it. But anyways, I am least interested to teach a 75 year old person. If you don't know it by yourself at such an age, it's your fault. whatever has happened with you in your life, I don't know but I will pray to my God to have mercy on you for your situation doesn't let you identify him. I am still sure that if you want to learn about him then they say, "Age is just a Number" and it is true. Go ahead. Nurture yourself with the word of Lord when you really feel like. I hope you will feel like doing it soon.

@Carazaa Such passages as Matthew 10:34-37 (NKJV) =
"34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set[a] a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me."
& Matthew 19:29 (NKJV) = "29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [a]or wife or children or [b]lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life."
are completely contrary to the passages that say that you are to honor your parents and to love your neighbors. They make a joke of the whole thing.
The Bible as a book was written in the 680s-early 690s by a committee of story tellers, writers, and artists based in England. It was done in response to Uthman's Koran of the 640s. The Christians didn't have a comparable book so they had to write one in response to keep the Christians unified against the Moslem invaders.
The Matthew 19:29 verse was written to appeal to the greed of the serfs who would become crusaders and trot off to fight the Muslims in the "Holy Land." They might not get rich as a result, or even survive, but they would be rewarded in the afterlife. People won't do things unless they will benefit from it and that was the promise without the church having to put out a lot of cash.
Of course, some of the families didn't want their men to leave and go trotting off to distant lands where there was no guarantee of survival. So, there had to be an exorbitant promise of wealth and eternal life. That meant that there was conflict in the families and the men had to renounce their family associations (Matthew 10:34-37).
The verse also ignores the other verses that specify the process for gaining eternal life.

Gods values and standard for loving is much higher than ours. When we don't put God first then we "hate" him. He doesn't want us to put our families above him, The definition of hate is not loving them more than God. It's considered "cheating". "We don't war against flesh and blood but against principalities in heavenly places." As it says in the book of Job, Satan attacked him with Gods permission, everyone was against him, because it is about the next world, and we are witnessing for the angels in heaven what side we are on. Satan and all his followers attack us, so that divides families. But we have to love them, but not leave Jesus. Some have to choose. Blessed are we when we are persecuted for righteousness's sake. Great is our reward in heaven. The Bible as a book was written in the 680s-early 690s by a committee of story tellers, writers, and artists based in England. No the Bible is the Inspired Word of God to a dying world to give us hope. It was written by Moses (5 first books), and by Godly men who wrote about their own lives. Stories that now are proven true, and was not discovered by man back then except the Jews. It changes families, it heals us! It is lifechanging! It is the most read book, and it gives us thousands of promises if we live by it. And we are about to go into the tribulation the very last days before Jesus returns possibly 2023-2030. We are having labor pains now. So be prepared for some challenging times and Jesus return. The Matthew 19:29 verse was written to appeal to the greed of the serfs who would become crusaders and trot off to fight the Muslims in the "Holy Land." @Carazaa So, Moses wrote about his own death and burial and how there hasn't been a prophet like him since that knew God face-to-face.
And are you really saying that you follow all of the biblical rules without exception? You must have killed a lot of people for working on the sabbath.

I worship Jesus because he died for the worlds sins so that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. That is amazingly loving. We are sinners. God says that our hearts are desperately wicked and selfish. He has the right to have high standards that we should be loving, and humble. I wouldn't like a God who doesn't care about sin, rape, murder, hate, lies, cheating, etc. The reason for all the trouble is us, not God. He is not a God who says do whatever and you can get away with anything. A good God has standards. But He is very slow to anger though waiting for us to turn to him. Our lives are short, very short, and then we have to face God. No one gets away with murder, unless Jesus took that sin on his shoulders. We have to repent and be saved, then we are a new creature, loving, and forgiving.
The stories in the Bible are about a nation who were slaves and God freed them because he loved them. The stories lead up to Jesus coming. The stories are spiritual as well as historical with deep meaning about Gods justice and what we really deserve in the Old Testament which is death, and the grace of God in the New Testament, and how he rescues us from certain death because he loves us. The real slaughtered lamb is so beautiful and he takes away the sins of the world.
God is Holy! There are no sins in heaven. We can't make it to heaven without Jesus. When he saves us, He wipes away our sins forever!

He really, REALLY doesn't like even the slightest hint of being accused of being anti-Semitic. Very sensitive to that one.

@Carazaa Aren't you overlooking one of the primary requirements?
Mark 16:16 (ERV) = "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But those who do not believe will be judged guilty."
Acts 8:35-38 (NKJV) =
"35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. 36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?”
37 [a]Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.”
And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him."
Note that some Bibles omit Acts 8:37.

@Diotrephes We are baptized by the Holy Spirit. God saves us, we don't save ourselves. We show others that we dedicate our lives to God by a public display of water baptism, but we can not earn heaven ourselves. Nothing we do can ever save us.

Was that your experience in your family? I didn't get the doom and gloom version when I was a kid.
Indoctrination, its started when they are young, telling a impressionable 5 year old theyre are going to burn in hell leaves a lasting impression, telling them theyre evil and can never be good enough is a destroyer!

"A child is not a Christian child, not a Muslim child, but a child of Christian parents or a child of Muslim parents. This latter nomenclature, by the way, would be an excellent piece of consciousness-raising for the children themselves. A child who is told she is a 'child of Muslim parents' will immediately realize that religion is something for her to choose -or reject- when she becomes old enough to do so.”

I sure am not worshipping God out of fear. I used to go to church and during the service would step out and have a cigarette before returning. That's not fear if you ask me. I worship God for who he is and the jail he's freed me from. I suffered depression for more than a decade but he saved me. I owe him my life.

Engaging in incest was one of the Israelites' favorite activities. Remember how pissed they got when Esau didn't marry one of his relatives =
Genesis 26:34 (NKJV) = "When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah."
Rebekah was so flipped out that she conspired with Isaac to steal Esau's birthright. And Esau is the only person by name in the Bible that God said that he hated.
@markansas he was pissed. He forced incest on them too. No abortion on that boat.

Because many people would rather appease an evil tyrant that stand up to it. That's how old middle eastern rulers with the God King narcissism acted. To be honest, it makes much more sense than worshiping someone deemed as omnipotent yet creating this world the way it is and even have the nerve calling him loving. It reminds me of a dog that licks the hand of his owner despite that the same hand hits it and abuses again and again. If you are omnipotent and create so much suffering...well, we have a name for it, it's called sadism.

The real fear is the fear of facing a mindless, random universe that has no love, concern or even knowledge of ones existence. It’s much more comforting to think there’s a sky-daddy who loves you.
Dez580 · 61-69, M
Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, faith or no faith. I do often find it strange those who write about a religon will often quote from a holy book or text such as from the Bible and use it as a truth, but then claim they do not believe in it. Christianity uses the New Testament a lot , but some evangelicals though concentrate on the Old Testament when the New Testament doesn't fit in with their agenda, they prefer Hellfire and much damnation. What a funny old world we live in? Live and let live is my own mantra
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Dez580 People who disagree with the Bible will quote from it to show how absurd it is. It is evidence.

You posted a picture of guns, as if you worship them. Since guns cause so much damage in various situations I wondered if you had ever experience the pain and suffering they cause when used against real people.
now my question is why did you ask?

Not out of fear. I died in a car accident 30 years ago and I experienced what I believe is God, aka the Lord of Hosts.

Why make it out to be fear and not desire to know ones maker?
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@SW-User All of it is imaginary and no one follows it because if they did they would become insane criminals. Pick out just about any page at random and if you did what it says it would make you into a criminal, or at least a lunatic.

@Diotrephes So if both heaven and hell imagery is fake why is one a valid enough reason to inspire fear yet the other not enough to inspire joy and intrigue in one's maker?

There are lots of characters in the Bible but can you guess which specific one the God character hated by name?
Malachi 1:2-3 (NKJV) =
2 “I have loved you,” says the Lord.
“Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’
Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?”
Says the Lord.
“Yet Jacob I have loved;
3 But Esau I have hated,
And laid waste his mountains and his heritage
For the jackals of the wilderness.”
So much for your "all-loving" God.

@Diotrephes He gets pissed off. When He just told them you are my favorite and they get Sodom and gamorrha swinging that probably chapped His ass. And he told that one girl don't look back and now she's a pile of salt in the desert. Give it take a detail.

Dunno. If I was going to be religious I'd want to worship a benevolent female deity with massive tits who loves me and is proud of me for not being a raging psychopath, and she loves animals and pizza and if people break her rules she just zips them out of existence. So no hell fire forever lasting, just zip and you're gone.

And mostly Israelites I guess because that's all there was except a few neanderthals and what was left over from the ice age kind of era. But people got messages from angels burning bushes. There were no Hebrew slaves building pyramids. They found proof. It wasn't union job but everyone got a check on Friday if they came in

These are NOT recreational drugs. Avoid dance clubs, large concerts and crowds, avoid using alcohol or those drinking the same. Quiet, natural settings are best. Just let go, let yourself drift. be aware of simple things it will be the most mundane rock, tree branch, or similar things you usually ignore that will be the most profound.
I would only listen to simple music and especially loved Ravi Shankar sittar sounds, flutes and especially the Celtic harp of Ani Williams. These drugs changed my life forever, God is only to be found in nature.

I only have one living sibling I am aware of. I am no longer welcome in his home. My nephew is forbidden to see me because as a homosexual I'm no longer acceptable to the Christian family.
No matter how much I have dedicated my life to the "Helping professions" I remain beyond redemption totally unworthy to any biological family.
It makes me sad but I can accept making "family" as I find them. Even if they are drug -ridden derelicts huddled in doorways I will embrace them if they want my fellowship. As long as I* can love myself and retain a sense of empathy, seeking true Agape fellowships and love I can be happy and survive being shunned by a ignorant few.

Genesis 22:12 (NKJV) = And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
Genesis 42:18 (NKJV) = "Then Joseph said to them the third day, “Do this and live, for I fear God:"
Exodus 1:17 (NKJV) = "But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive."
Leviticus 19:14 (NKJV) = "You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I am the Lord."
There's well over one hundred such passages. And don't forget, the Jesus character will have his minions grab and toss you into the fire if you tell him to get lost.

I know. But it's for me I believe in a life after. It makes dying easier right now. It made not dying with praying for. I swear God let me get out of this and I'll be a priest. It's adaptive like the constitution it will not make sense at times and be the answer next. I don't say this to argue. It to belittle anyone. I don't need to be the winner of who is the true religion debate. I can learn from other's and why do some care of I do? I might get my head cut off on TV if ii go in and start trying to change everyone like I know best. My example may make someone kind once at the right time. I don't use scripture to I suit me. I can't remember who said what but I can remember most of the things said by the people in the religious history book. If Jesus was real or not we all know the story pretty much would it be wrong to emulate him? You seen those eyes of the ones that know God's peace that smile of content and soft confidence peace. They know something but they don't talk it unless you really ask. There is nothing wrong with and their happiness. They may actually be fearless. Truely dependable and perky l purely honest damn I can't do that. I need confession often
Peace be with you.

It's God's curse on all the earth.
"Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
16 To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
[b]“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
20 Adam named his wife Eve,because she would become the mother of all the living.
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life."

@Carazaa That story is hilarious when you think about it.
The God character makes a serpent reature who is more crafty then all of the other animals and he puts it where he can fool Adam & Eve, who are supposedly made in God's own image. Maybe God was drunk that day; he does like wine.
Judges 9:13 (NKJV)="But the vine said to them, ‘Should I cease my new wine, Which cheers both God and men, And go to sway over trees?’"
The God character then gets pissed at the crafty serpent for deceiving the stupid humans, whom God didn't have sense enough to make smarter than the serpent. He then curses both, instead of accepting responsibility for his own lack of foresight. It's no wonder the dummy sacrificed his own son for the screw-ups he had made.

I have been participating on various internet forums for years and, as a consequence, have been able to extensively explore the biblical fairytale. It is very complex and a beautiful work of literature but the bottom line is, although it does have some good tidbits of timeless advice, the central message is pure BS. Even the writers said in several places that it is BS.
The comment I made about pictures of "Jesus" being examples of idol worship is based on Exodus 20:4-6 (ERV) =
4 “You must not make any idols. Don’t make any statues or pictures of anything up in the sky or of anything on the earth or of anything down in the water. 5 Don’t worship or serve idols of any kind, because I, the Lord, am your God. I hate my people worshiping other gods.[a] People who sin against me become my enemies, and I will punish them. And I will punish their children, their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren. 6 But I will be very kind to people who love me and obey my commands. I will be kind to their families for thousands of generations."
Catholics are big idol worshippers. Their churches are filled with them.
BTW, did you notice in the passage how individuals are not judged on their own merits but on the deeds done by other people? That theme is repeated throughout the Bible. The story tellers did try to change it and make it an individual thing.
I am willing to discuss any topic with anyone but if you are easily triggered by my analysis it may be better for your emotional health to simply ignore me. Offer your analysis on the the topic and I will do likewise.

Swap "imaginary deity" to "government" and it still works exactly the same as you described.

@swirlie I used to be Catholic. There's never a day I was made to feel guilty not giving. In fact I used to feel okay if I didn't. I've been Christian for more than a decade and I used to live like those of the world. I'd feel guilty when the Minister pointed out my wrongs during the service but after church I'll go do whatever I wanted. My point is you can manipulate people all you want but it's entirely up to them what they do afterwards.
