Why do people worship their favorite imaginary deity out of fear?

The Bible has lots of stories where people were forced to worship the God character out of fear. They were frightened that he would kill them if they didn't comply with his demands to be worshiped. He did kill hordes of people who rejected his demands and he is always threatening to kill all of humanity unless people cater to his every whim.

Are you fearful of incurring his wrath?

To be honest, it makes much more sense than worshiping someone deemed as omnipotent yet creating this world the way it is and even have the nerve calling him loving. It reminds me of a dog that licks the hand of his owner despite that the same hand hits it and abuses again and again. If you are omnipotent and create so much suffering...well, we have a name for it, it's called sadism.

@CrazyMusicLover The Bible says that the God character is a sadist. He loves to beat the crap out of the ones he claims to love.

Hebrews 12:6 = https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Hebrews%2012%3A6
@CrazyMusicLover You said God created the world the way it is...meaning evil and all.

God didn't create it this way. In the beginning everything was perfect and there was no sin in the Garden of Eden. Then guess what. Man is the one who decided to sin against God. God does not create evil, sinful things. Man-made a decision to choose to do evil. This introduced sin into the world, what you see today, and tells us exactly why we need Jesus.

Secondly, God did not create this world to condemn it. His mission was to save the world, from the condemnation sin placed on us. In other words if it weren't for Christ dying on the cross to save us from hell, we would have all went to hell. This is all recorded in God's Word. He did not make us to be robots with no feelings. He gave us free will and that means it is our responsibility to choose what we will. God didn't force our hand to sin. That's blaming the wrong person. Mankind chose to sin against God. I'm thankful for God's free gift of salvation. He didn't have to die for us, but he did, because he loves us, and he proved that on the cross.

@LadyGrace Who else lived in the Garden of Eden beside Adam & Eve?

You get 100 points for the correct answer and a wet noddle for the wrong answer.

@Diotrephes Yes, Christian religion is based on masochism. I mean, if it's someone's individual preference, I don't mind but trying to instill this concept on others is abuse.
