Why do people worship their favorite imaginary deity out of fear?

The Bible has lots of stories where people were forced to worship the God character out of fear. They were frightened that he would kill them if they didn't comply with his demands to be worshiped. He did kill hordes of people who rejected his demands and he is always threatening to kill all of humanity unless people cater to his every whim.

Are you fearful of incurring his wrath?

all it shows is the weakness of human fear i think this is rather taken out of context slightly . god punished the wrong doers like sodom and gomorrah when the egyptians followed the fleeing isralites across the red sea. we where wicked creatures back in the old testament .sadly the human race has not improved a great deal over the centuries diotrephes]

@smiler2012 but as we evolve or get smarter so does our sense if religion. Don't things are more complex than saying lightening if from Thor. Or at the end of you don't sit stealing my old lady something bad will get you. It has horns and it is a snake sometimes. Or I'm going to take karate for two weeks and come back and kick your butt.
I know. But it's for me I believe in a life after. It makes dying easier right now. It made not dying with praying for. I swear God let me get out of this and I'll be a priest. It's adaptive like the constitution it will not make sense at times and be the answer next. I don't say this to argue. It to belittle anyone. I don't need to be the winner of who is the true religion debate. I can learn from other's and why do some care of I do? I might get my head cut off on TV if ii go in and start trying to change everyone like I know best. My example may make someone kind once at the right time. I don't use scripture to I suit me. I can't remember who said what but I can remember most of the things said by the people in the religious history book. If Jesus was real or not we all know the story pretty much would it be wrong to emulate him? You seen those eyes of the ones that know God's peace that smile of content and soft confidence peace. They know something but they don't talk it unless you really ask. There is nothing wrong with and their happiness. They may actually be fearless. Truely dependable and perky l purely honest damn I can't do that. I need confession often
