Why do people worship their favorite imaginary deity out of fear?

The Bible has lots of stories where people were forced to worship the God character out of fear. They were frightened that he would kill them if they didn't comply with his demands to be worshiped. He did kill hordes of people who rejected his demands and he is always threatening to kill all of humanity unless people cater to his every whim.

Are you fearful of incurring his wrath?

just out of spite he killed every person in the world except for one family. noah.. the great flood.. men women children babies and the unborn who could not have done a sin.

Engaging in incest was one of the Israelites' favorite activities. Remember how pissed they got when Esau didn't marry one of his relatives =

Genesis 26:34 (NKJV) = "When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah."

Rebekah was so flipped out that she conspired with Isaac to steal Esau's birthright. And Esau is the only person by name in the Bible that God said that he hated.
