@Adrift My uncle was a veterinarian out in Texas. When I was about 11 or 12, he took me to his clinic on a day where they were castrating a herd of young bulls. That night, my aunt made mountain oysters for dinner. They were good, but the thought of what they are was difficult to get past.
@Adrift Here's a very delicious way to fix smoked oysters: (the ex's drunk Aunt once fixed them for us out in Las Vegas). Take one triscuit, top it with a smoked oyster, then top that with a nice slice of cheddar cheese, and put a bunch of them in the toaster oven just till the cheese melts.
The smoked oysters are absolutely delicious in that combination of flavors!
I wouldn't say they were outside my comfort zone, but I didn't particularly care for them: fried grasshoppers, and sea urchins. Separately on different occasions.
Vermicili or something like that. I was made of offal (literally pronounced like 'awful') which is defined as "various organ meats" can confirm it was awful.
As I recall, the reason horse meat is illegal in the US is the anabolic steroids, and antibiotics they’re fed which makes the meat dangerous for humans to eat. That process isn’t done in other countries, and horse meat is readily available in quite a few places.
@BizSuitStacy Yeah I read somewhere this dude was passing pig intestines as being Calamari. Took people YEARS to figure out he wasn't using the real stuff. Something that can taste identical to pig intestines is not for me.
It was a Asian sauce made with pig blood. My friend tricked me made me think it was a chocolate sauce😮 we are no longer friends....(Various reasons lol)
Problem was, decades ago, a very major fast food chain attempt to hide the fact that they were using horse meat. That sort of contributed to the idea that it's a taboo.
@AthrillatheHunt I had to google it “No, Swiss people don't eat a lot of horse meat compared to total meat consumption, but it's legally sold, culturally accepted as a delicacy, and consumed more than in many English-speaking nations, though less than in France or Belgium, with Switzerland importing most of its supply from countries like Canada, Mexico, and Argentina, despite ethical concerns and animal welfare issues. “
Yeah we eat a lot of horse in Switzerland. I guess squid is the weirdest thing I’ve tried… it’s kind of okay in small doses. But I try not to think about it while I’m eating it. It would be too gross.
