Weird question: Would you live in a house…

that had all the room, everything you needed and was clean and pleasant, very reasonably priced—if it were built on the site of the previous home of someone like John Wayne Gacy, Dean Coril or Jeffrey Dahmer ?
Not the same building, but a new house on the same site ?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
I could, but I would rather see spaces that have been the site of so much pain be converted to parks or other green spaces that become places of reflection.
@windinhishair I could see that.
TrashCat · M
@windinhishair That's actually a very respectful thing to do in honour of the victims of those fucking monsters
Rutterman · 46-50, M
Yes, I would. A reasonably priced home is hard to find, at least in my area, so finding one that had everything I needed would be too good of a deal to pass up. There might initially be a low-level feeling of creepiness due to the site's history, but I think I'd get over it soon enough. 😄
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@Rutterman I feel pretty much the same. The house where I’ve lived for 34 years had someone shot at (but not hit) by a prior owner.
Vin53 · M
Yes, and with zero inhibitions.

When people die, they don't return to this world.

Full stop.
I could, but I don't think I would enjoy it. For the fact that I might constantly be reminded of what happened there and I don't think I would like the atmosphere there. Too much negative energy.
There was a pediatrician where I live that molested 100s of kids. They tore down his building and it sat vacant for maybe 15 years now and they’re building a hotel on it. It’s weird, I’m not superstitious, but still, it’s weird.
@BrokenAbyss The flat where my husband and I lived downtown had been the site of a murder-suicide 7 years and one tenant before we moved in. We lived there for five years and noticed nothing unusual. Someone who lived in that neighborhood told me about that history 20 years later.
@bijouxbroussard It does have a creepy factor, but truly it’s just a space you would make your own.
TrashCat · M
Honestly yes. I would be queasy living in the same house as any of those people, but if it were a new house, sure. I do not believe in the supernatural so there is no problems there. The only thing that I would have to consider would be the crime scene tourism and people showing up to take a look at the place.
TrashCat · M
@bijouxbroussard People can be annoying. LOL
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@TrashCat Considering what kind of nutcases these people attract, it might not even be safe.
@CrazyMusicLover True. There are some sick people even beyond the previous tenants at those properties.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I think I could live in such a house and not give a moment's thought to who used to live on that site. Land and buildings didn't commit the crimes.
@bijouxbroussard the British one is hilarious
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard I have not seen that, but it looks very clever!
@metaldog I finally looked into the British show, too !

I love my house and the area. Don’t plan to leave. I don’t relish the idea of living on a serial killers old property. With my luck, I’d start seein dead people n shit. LOL
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy I understand. 😄
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
Yup. The housing market is so nuts right now, what's a little ghost activity?
DDonde · 31-35, M
@SwampFlower That was my logic too
@SwampFlower I totally get that. If the money being right and a nice, new house were the pros, "might be haunted" would be insignificant as a con. 😄
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard I honestly wish I could find a haunted house rn 😆
SW-User
Yes, I don’t believe in superstition or afterlife so it’s just a plot of land with a tragic history to me
SW-User
Nope. That kind of dark energy is hard to shake off, even with new construction.
@SW-User
Exactly
craig7 · 70-79, M
No,I don't think so - it would give me a feeling of unease,even of a lingering presence from the terrible events that had occurred on the site.It's not that I would be expecting to see ghostly figures or hear cries in the night,but I tend to pick up a lot from the atmospherics of places - so no,not for me,at any price!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Been in one of Mason's homes in the mountains several times. Heck the staff at the place actually lived in it.

It would really depend on if I could afford it and how much it cost to maintain.

I sure couldn't keep up on the maintenance costs on Mason's old home.
JustNik · 51-55, F
I wouldn’t wanna live in their house, but a new house on the land I don’t think would bother me. Everywhere we go, something else was here before. Maybe being something decent would be like a fresh coat of paint for the spot.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
There’s a show on Roku called Murder House Flip People buy houses that there was a murder. Then they have people come remodel the room where Murder accrued
@Jeffrey53 Wow. That’s a really interesting premise. Usually when it’s the site of a particularly gruesome crime (like the ones mentioned, or the DeFeo mass murders) the building itself is torn down so "souvenir hunters" aren’t as attracted.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
yeah I think so.
I don't believe that spirits would roam around it

and I lived in a house where a family member had died of old age - after a while you don't really think of it
SW-User
Nope. There'd still be annoying, thoughtless tourists buzzing about the site doing what annoying, thoughtless tourists usually do.
@SW-User That’s a really good point. On a lot of the most gruesome sites, the houses and buildings were torn down, often to discourage souvenir hunters. But people in the neighborhood probably still stop by.
Dino11 · M
I think they have built housing tracks on the old Spahn Movie Ranch site.
former home to the Manson Family, so I guess that worked out.
@Dino11 I remember that place.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
There's a concept I've never had to consider.

Honestly don't know. The original house that would creep me out so no but a new build? I don't know possibly
Piper · 61-69, F
I probably would, but I'd feel some hesitation about it. I'm not a total skeptic, about some some places being "haunted" in some way.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
Our house was haunted until about a year and a half ago. He must have been freed of his bonds by good deeds.
@SageWanderer Wow, that’s wild ! We always felt like my grandparents house was haunted. There just always felt like more people were around than just those one could see.
bookerdana · M
Yes I would ,price area etc being good...as Huck Finn said,I don't take much stock in dead people" Or haints haunted houses etc.....
scrood · 31-35
I'd prefer the same building
scrood · 31-35
@bijouxbroussard More character
@scrood True enough. But some things you can’t scrub out of hardwood floors.
scrood · 31-35
@bijouxbroussard It's fun to fix it yourself
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Probably would be ok with it, I doubt the land would be haunted.
No. I don't need to think about it.
It FEELS very wrong.
Nope.. not if I knew the history of the lot..
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Yes. That wouldn’t bother me
Whodunnit · M
I'd have no problem with it
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
Yeah I would mind living there
SW-User
That would be creepy 😳
Yes I would..... 3🌹🌹🤗
Once i would have said no.

But desperate times, desperate measures . 🤷‍♀️
@OogieBoogie I do understand.
@bijouxbroussard but id sage that place to its foundations!ll
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Don't know if I could do that.
DDonde · 31-35, M
SW-User
Noooooo, nope, no. Gosh darn it, just no, and how could anyone 😢
SW-User
Yes, if the new structure itself was ideal, the location was right for my needs, and it was very good deal, I would be, er, haunted by passing up the opportunity

@CrazyMusicLover That’s the crazy part. It’s the reason they tear down the building and sometimes even change the address. People are nuts.
