I Sometimes Just Need to Cry
Watching the Festival of Remembrance from London over the weekend on Youtube and thinking of the lives lost in wars, I just needed to let my emotions show, which is very hard for me to do. As they told the story of the young lady who was killed in a...

I Am a Dog Lover
I just finished giving my beagle a bath outside in the warm sun. She was the most pitiful looking creature during the bath, but as soon as I finished drying her with a towel, she was all smiles, running around, happy as could be. Amazing mood swing.

I Remember My First Kiss
My first real kiss was when we were 15, and it was great for me. Years later, after we had been married a while, she showed me her diary entry from that night: "He is a terrible kisser!" Fortunately, she was a good teacher, and I improved....

I Would Go Back In Time If I Could
My hobby is genealogy, and I would love to go back 150 years to see how my great-great grandparents lived and even farther back to 1750 to find out exactly what my last name should be. I think my 4th great grandfather changed it.

I Love the Outdoors and Nature
I don't have to go far to find nature. Sitting on my patio last evening with an adult beverage, I saw a lizard camped out in a Christmas cactus, a tiny bird in a hanging basket, a blue jay in the bird bath, a squirrel digging in the flower bed,...

I Will Answer Anything You Dare To Ask
I thought that was true until a very good friend asked me this question, "What are you most ashamed of doing?" I was too ashamed to answer. So, I will answer almost anything you dare ask.

I Love Nature
I was just sitting on my patio, watching a pair of white-tailed hawks soaring and diving. The show went on for half an hour. I'm easily entertained.

I Love Home Cooked Meals
My wife and I take turns cooking, and both of us do a good job. Still, her home cooking is always better than mine.

I Laugh Out Loud, even When Im On My Own
My wife came back to see why I was laughing so hard. As an old fart, I really enjoy Jeanne Robertson's humor and watch her videos on Youtube when I need a good laugh. I always feel better after a session of laughing that leaves me with tears in...

I Want a Lover Who Is Also My Best Friend
That's who I have. To show my love, I bought her a new car yesterday. Okay, so her old one was 14 years old, with 200,000 miles and falling apart, but now she's happy and afraid to drive the new one because she doesn't want to put th...

I Explore Old Cemeteries
One of my favorite parts of family history research is roaming old cemeteries. The most troubling part is being reminded how many children died, especially during flu epidemics. Sometimes the inscription on the tombstone of a totally unrelated perso...

I Would Go Back In Time If I Could
I would love to go back in time to visit with some of my ancestors and clear up some questions that are driving me crazy as I do family history research. Just a short visit in 1790 to North Carolina and 1820 to Massachusetts would be fine.

I Need to Be Intellectually Stimulated
I always have at least two books in progress: one for pure entertainment and the other concerning a subject that stimulates my curiosity. I know so little about so many things, and I'm running out of time.

I Like Watching Golf
We had two great days at Augusta National watching The Masters. Rain tomorrow, and I feel sorry for those who might miss a chance to experience one of the most beautiful places on earth.I will watch the rest of the tournament on TV.

I Love the Smell of Old Books
I just finished reading a book published in the 1940's, and I was greeted with that great old book smell with every page.

I Love Nature
I was playing golf today in our 80 degree weather, and I was totally distracted by a pair of ospreys flying in a fairly strong wind, circling over the bayou. I wish I had my camera.

I Appreciate the Simple Things In Life
I just finished two jobs that I hate: trimming our palm trees and raking the yard. The good part was sitting in a nice quiet spot, sipping lemonade, and watching my dog having a staring contest with a squirrel.

I Like to Be Alone With My Thoughts Sometimes
One of the things I like best about my daily walks is that I have a time when I have no interruptions and can let my mind go wherever it wants to go. Sometimes, I just sit under a tree and see what thoughts might arise or delve deeply into a problem...
