Always have to look for new friends on my walks

My dog and I ran into this young western cottonmouth on the trail a few minutes ago. I used a stick to chase it into the woods before two more dogs got there. My dog ignores snakes. Others might not be so lucky.

My grand father was afraid of them trained a dog to keep them away from his camp when sleeping ,, he was a prospector

@exexec i am not a fan but do not mind them in the wild where they belong ,, i am a dog person ,,

@oldercanuck1 I don't bother the nonvenomous ones. I do move the venomous ones out of my yard or off the beaten path so they won't bother anybody.

@exexec good way to be ,, as long as they do not hurt anyone ,,,

So considerate of you!!

@Quimliqer Truth be known, I probably did it for the snake. It needed to hide from snake murderers.

Cottonmouths are one of the many reasons I don’t miss living in the south.

I bet its bite packs quite a punch.

@Sapio Yes. My grandfather was bitten on the leg when he was a teenager and they soaked his leg in a bucket of turpentine for a week to fight the venom and swelling. Treatment is a lot better now. They hardly ever bite unless you provoke it, such as by kicking it like my grandfather did.
