Actor Who Played the Gill Man in "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" Dies

Ricou Browning, who did the underwater scenes in the Creature from the Black Lagoon series died at 93 last month. Those were some of the first horror movies I saw as a kid. I used to fish in a swamp lake that looked just like the Black Lagoon, so I was always on the lookout for the creature.
It may be fitting if he were buried at sea.

Bella Lugosi was so attached to his Dracula persona, he was buried in his Dracula outfit.

A very good movie

@nedkelly I saw it again on Fox Classics a few months ago - the photography for the underwater action scenes was pretty good.

The guy deserved an Oscar just for carrying all that extra clothing around.

@Nimbus He said he got the part because he could hold his breath for several minutes underwater.

@Nimbus RIP Mrs Smiler 😁
I remember that movie as a kid. So hokey now, but scared the 💩 out of me then. May he rest in peace
Another icon has died. I have not seen the original. I wil have to. Imagine being a part of history like he was!

I never saw the movie, but I read the book in the 4th grade.
exexec · 61-69, C
@Sidewinder I didn't know there was a book. Cool!
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@exexec The book was actually a novelization of the film.
One of my faves among the classic oldie horror flicks. RIP Ricou...

That movie was shot in Silver Springs FL.
exexec · 61-69, C
@fanuc2013 Browning was actually working at Silver Springs in an underwater show when he was "discovered." So he was the Creature in familiar waters.
