Chances i didnt take.

Yea, it’s mostly me being afraid. I probably missed out on a lot of opportunities because I'm so self conscious.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Can't look at life like that.

It's easy to say i wish id taken the road less travelled.
But there's no guarantee life would have turned out any better.

Just different.

I could just have easily gone into the Navy rather than social work.
But then you consider the number of armed conflicts since '82 and i might have been dead before i hit 30 so....
@Picklebobble2 I prefaced the question to those who might have a regret or two. I wasn’t judging (at least I hope that’s not how it came across). I understand some people have none.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Do you really need to ask?

Almost all my regrets are of actions never taken, words never spoken, love never properly expressed. I'm pretty sure that the majority of people I know well are much the same.

It's taken almost a lifetime to understand this and I think I will spend what remains of my life struggling to change.
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
At every phase in life , we make decisions and act accordingly.

Some we regret , some we do not.
We are not perfect to get every decision right.

Maturity is about acknowledging them, learning from those poorly made decisions and moving forward.
Egg01 · 56-60, F
@scorpiolovedeep spot on 🙂
@scorpiolovedeep While I do agree, it wasn’t really the question. But thanks for participating.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
Hmmmm, good question. I really do try not to regret my choices and just learn from them…but alas, it seems I continue to make some pretty headshaking, eye-rolling doozies 🤦‍♀️

Obviously those are times when I will experience some regret…but it’s usually over some less serious offence like buying that car, or choosing that shade of hair dye….

I don’t usually regret the bigger items, they usually are the choices which have led me here in my life. And I honestly have no way of determining that my life could have been any better had I chosen THIS over THAT….its just the way it is, I suppose.

*edit to add: man, I rambled on a bit and I kinda feel like I didn’t really answer your question!!? 🤦‍♀️
twistedrope · 26-30, M
I have no regrets. I always acted to the best of my ability within the confines of my own ignorance.
That is to say, I was dumb and I don't regret doing dumb things. I literally did not know any better.
AdaXI · 41-45, T
God don't even go there I lost on so many levels, but hey life has been good to me I had a lot given on a plate so I can't really complain B x

Maybe not keeping a journal as a kid to keep memories that would normally fade away as someone gets older
This message was deleted by its author.
AdaXI · 41-45, T
@deadgerbil You're still young though so if you're keeping track now well it's all good you'll have journals full of stuff when you reach my age to remember life by.

[c=800000] I've all three
Mistakes, attempts, chances
I'm a loser in all aspects 🤦‍♀️[/c]
@Raaii The attempts take a lot of courage. Everyone makes mistakes. You’re not a loser.
Raaii · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard [c=800000] I actually try harder to hang on
The only escape is death and I now know that's not the solution
Somehow I'm just
I keep going
But it's all failures
I see no positive outcomes anywhere 🙇‍♀️[/c]
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Its all about the things I did.. I have never kept myself from trying anything.
@Thevy29 I admire that. It takes courage.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
The biggest regrets I have are trusting people when I shouldn't have.
@DearAmbellina2113 I can relate to this, too. 🥺
JustNik · 51-55, F
I’ve been pretty equal opportunity there, but I’m one of those who flips the page and thinks of all the good things that wouldn’t have happened had I chosen otherwise. The one area that mindset doesn’t touch is the character flaws that led to those choices. I regret myself more than anything I have or haven’t done. Again, serves a purpose, but it’s harder for me to make peace with.
I have made a couple or so mistakes that I regret which got people emotionally hurt.

As for the second question, absolutely but I've gotten a lot better at that lately. I just wish life gave me more time to do stuff it's not easy getting physically weaker over time in a fast rate however I'm not a victim and I'm really this time to change something and I'm seeing differences already and expecting more.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
Absolutely 100 percent - things I didn't do or attempt. 😔 I hope to change that even a bit.
WalksWith · 51-55, F
I'm not sure...? Probably fear? Most of my life was about survival, so I din't think in terms of a future. I survived one day at a time. Until a few years ago, in my early 50's, that's when I started to 'regret' not doing things that I never even considered before then. I can do them now, probably, however I am still afraid of getting involved with something I am not sure how the outcome will be.
MrsMONAKanful · 36-40, F
No I have no regrets even if I don’t get into the music course I know I did my best
NitorTNT · 22-25, M
let's see...

-burning away a lot of my childhood and teen years and even current years being on my PC all day
-hurting people i cared about, potentially beyond recovery in some cases
-having been that wierdo kid everyone hated instead of being somewhat normal
-still not being fucking normal...

probably a few more would pop up if i think about it long enough, but that's a good start
I know I've passed on a lot of things I maybe shouldn't have. I'm not completely against a calculated risk, but I refuse to let myself regret deciding a risk isn't worth it. I'd much rather risk missing an opportunity than invite more disaster into my life.
@SooperSarah I can definitely understand this.

Things I’ve done
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
I just wished to change two things. First, not having enough confidence in myself to go to med school. Second, not listening to my inner feelings when it came to my first marriage. I wrote it off as nerves and didn’t face the reality.
sciguy18 · M
I can answer that with one of my favorite quotes...

“Regret for the Things We Did Can Be Tempered by Time; It Is Regret for the Things We Did Not Do That Is Inconsolable.”
@sciguy18 Very true.
SW-User
I'm trying to see my regrets as lessons and not repeat my stupidity..but I don't want to sit in them too long because it leads into depression then I spiral...so ...I acknowledge what I feel at the time then move on
exexec · 61-69, C
Regrets for things not done. There is truth in Whittier's poem, "Maude Muller,: where he wrote: "For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been!"
OnePatheticClown · 51-55, M
🤔 Mostly on bad decisions I've taken through life, when on hindsight, all the signs where clear that they were huge mistakes.
And a few about chances I left pass me by....
TheOthetAcc · 36-40, M
I honestly would be fine if I never existed to begin with, but I'm here so might as well laugh away all the failures and regrets
@TheOthetAcc For the record, I’m glad you’re here. 👍🏽
TheOthetAcc · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard I appreciate that. 😉
Very little, really, either way. I might have done differently about some important things - but with most losses there are gains and the other way around.

You pay your money, you roll the dice.
Ontheroad · M
Mistakes I've made... more specifically the pain I caused not purposefully, or with any animosity, but foolishly. It at times, haunts me.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
In my case and maybe I´m not alone in this, both are inseparable.
For each chance I didn’t take (and should) there was something that held me doing what I shouldn´t.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Yes but everyone is a general after the battle. I couldn't have possibly known how would all that turn out if I made different choices. There are uncountable possibilities of things going well or wrong with every choice we make.
So knowing what I know now I would have done something differently in past but I couldn't have known it then.
@CrazyMusicLover And some people have no regrets—for those reasons.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@bijouxbroussard I guess it's wise then because it's a pointless emotion. You can't change what has already happened, only learn from it.
@CrazyMusicLover It’s why I prefaced the question as I did. It wasn’t directed at those who have no regrets. It’s not applicable to them.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
For me it would be the former. I've made my adult life much harder than it should be, thanks to stupid decisions when I was younger.
Vin53 · M
Neither of the two. Only the choices I made.
@Vin53 That sounds like regret for things done. Unless I’m misunderstanding.
Vin53 · M
@bijouxbroussard When does a choice become a regret?
@Vin53 When you believe it was the wrong choice.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
If i were to go to confession you'd hear the priest slap his knee and say,"No shit! Then what happened?".
GunFinger · F
Thing's I've done. It's more of the decisions I've made. I can't turn back to fix them anymore.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Only regret is about one person I married. I didn't listen to myself and the warnings. But you recover.
Vin53 · M
Regrets can often be recuperated with zero overall devastation.

Choices are forever.
Egg01 · 56-60, F
Regrets, I have a few, but then again, too few to mention…
@Egg01 But you did what you had to do…and did it your way. 😉
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Mostly choices made that hurt people -- almost always from the days I drank. :(
solitaire · 41-45, F
Things I've done in the past - hope I don't repeat the same mistakes again
bookerdana · M
Both,frankly...sometimes I've tried to do good but left something unsaid
OldBrit · 61-69, M
About equal. I very much regret what I did do and what I didn't 🤦🏼‍♂️
JamesBugman · 56-60, T
Everything you do is a fork in your path. You never know, maybe if you had taken that path you would have died. Just be happy and don't think about it too much, time always marches forward.
@JamesBugman So, no regrets ? Good for you. 👍🏽
JamesBugman · 56-60, T
@bijouxbroussard What good are regrets? You can't do anything about them, they happened. Live and learn and try not to repeat.
@JamesBugman Then the question simply wasn’t applicable to you. Not all will be.
jehova · 31-35, M
Id have to go with tobacco.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Excellent question. While there are things I probably should have attempted and didn't, I am satisfied with my choices and their consequences. My regrets are about things I have done that inadvertently hurt other people, and for those actions I am regretful.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
Mainly mistakes and a few things I should of done but didn't. I've done a lot that I put my mind to, but it hasn't always worked out. At the time I thought, oh well move on, but now those mistakes are accumulating and I just want to isolate and figure out what the hell happened.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
I shouldn’t have drunk so much
Convivial · 26-30, F
Definitely the latter
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
All of the above!!
RenFur · 70-79, M
No regrets.
