Amen to that. That's the truth! But I must say that even the Bible is accurate scientifically, in a time when people didn't know much about science. For an example, before the time period when people thought the earth was flat, the Bible calls the earth round and hangs on nothing. The first line of Isaiah 40:22 reads, “It is he [i.e. God] who sits above the circle of the earth.” The Bible also explains the water cycle.
This yahweh thing apparently is ok with this happening to kids.
Mate, your 'yahweh thing' may be okay with children being abused in the way you described, but not my God, Yahweh. He is a righteous and just God, not a dictator as you would have Him to be. Those criminal acts will not go unpunished as you suppose.
@GodSpeed63 you are missing the point. Ïf he could stop it happening. Which being a"god" he could. Why wouldn't he? Why let it happen and say "keep raping that child... one day i will judge you for it".. this is actually what you believe in. And somehow you can sell your soul to overlook it because you get promised eternity if you ignore it.
@Bushmanoz Reminds me of one of pTerry's most vivid passages, summing up Vetinari's way of thinking:
The Patrician took a sip of his beer. “I have told this to few people, gentlemen, and I suspect I never will again, but one day when I was a young boy on holiday in Uberwald I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, I’m sure you will agree, and even as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders, gentlemen: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built into the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior.”
Of course Granny Weatherwax also had something to say on the subject of gods and belief:
'I don’t hold with paddlin’ with the occult," said Granny firmly. ‘Once you start paddlin’ with the occult you start believing in spirits, and when you start believing in spirits you start believing in demons, and then before you know where you are you’re believing in gods. And then you’re in trouble.’ ‘But all them things exist,’ said Nanny Ogg. ‘That’s no call to go around believing in them. It only encourages ‘em.' (LL)
Where were your so called God and faith healers when Covid came up? Why did you rush to hospitals instead of churches? Why did you have to rely on so called science and had to shut churches?
@JBird I wish I could fervently pretend to believe in some supernatural and silly notion. It would be within my right to claim that Santa only stopped delivering toys to me because he went on a journey to find the Easter Bunny and save it from Medusa.
I cannot see why you have put " 'science' " in a sermon trying to frighten us in to believing in your way in your Yahweh, ironically on a system that could not exist without science and engineering.
Religious faith and science are two entirely different concepts with entirely different natures, asking entirely different questions, doing entirely different things.
Religions are monopolistic ("I believe in god X, so your belief in god Y is wrong and evil"; "You and I believe in god Z, but only my sect is right."). The world has seen many self-righteous religions and sects come and go - with most encouraging their followers to claim universal "truth" based merely on their founders' untested, unquestioned, personal religious opinions.
Science transcends god-bothering, and indeed even nations. It has to, because Nature (by any god or none) does not observe human political, social and religious artifices, whereas studying Nature objectively and applying scientific knowledge constructively, relies on international co-operation between people of many faiths and none.
This also means that spiritual faith and objective knowledge are not mutually exclusive. You can be a professional scientist or have a lay interest in science, but still believe in a god driving the cosmos and all it holds, and many do.
Besides, your bleak polemic imagines a deity and its "kingdom" so cold, judgemental, unforgiving, self-righteous and exclusive, I find it darkly amusing, wondering if it would admit any mere human "souls" at all!
@JoeyFoxx So that’s not correct! The signs of Jesus return have only been this generation! The gospel only went out to the entire world this generation! And we are probably the generation of his return!
@sunsporter1649 I’m not sure that’s true, he does not delight to see the wicked perish he says! It’s a wedding day where we as his bride comes for us, and takes us home!
SW-User
Without the Spirit of Christ in you, you can’t enter the Kingdom of God.
I'm glad for you that you have such faith.
There are a plethora of religions that don't believe what you have stated, starting with Judaism, the religion that your faith stems from.
What you're doing is judging (and condemning) others for not believing as you do, whether you recognize it or not. That's something your religion states only your God has the right to do.
@GodSpeed63 I'm not taunting or bullying you. You consciously choose to turn a blind eye to your bad behavior here. Go ahead and attempt to continue to rationalize it to make yourself feel superior as you appear to feel the need for it, and have the last word. I won't respond further. Best of luck on your judgment day.
oh you keep thinking some god will come.. but he is not.. he does not exist.. oh god is coming and he never does. will u all learn your lesson there is no man in the sky.. fucking idots..
you're yahweh thing doesn't exist but only in your imaginations,
Not my yahweh thing, you're the one who keeps going on about it but, as you admit, it only exists in your imagination. You must be really confused. You imply you don't believe in it but then go on to claim there's evidence of it. You need to make your mind up.
There's plenty of evidence all around us of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, the One and Only True God. If you only opened your eyes you'd be able to see it too. r'Amen!
@GodSpeed63 It appears you're getting horribly confused, probably due to your failing memory. It is you, not I, who keeps bringing up this yahweh thing. You seem to think it's some sort of supernatural being or god. Remember now?
You do realize that science is something that human beings created through the intelligence bestowed upon them by said god. If you believe in god, then you believe they created mankind and if they created mankind, then they either created the ability for mankind to increase their knowledge OR gave them that knowledge directly. So if that's true, then the "science" that is used to help people, is god made as well. Right?
One doesn't have to believe in other things and stop believing in God. The two can go hand in hand or did God want everyone in his world to live throughout the centuries in dirt houses and using nothing but leeches to try and cure people?
@Fernie It's funny, I had this whole thing written out about your "SO stupid" comments, but realized...your opinion of me really doesn't matter. You don't know me at all, you go by what little bits I wrote here and because you don't agree, you try to put down instead of attempting to have an actually conversation. So, I'm fine with it. You're opinion of me is just that...YOUR opinion of someone you don't even know.
@LeopoldBloom We’ll see! It’s not my faith that gets me to heaven it’s Jesus paying for my sins and lack of faith if I have a lack of faith! When we are saved the Holy Spirit changes our hearts and we are born again! Then God walks with us and talks to our hearts! And we want to please him but we still have a sinful Body that will be renewed in the rapture when Jesus takes us home!
@Carazaa It is possible that Jesus will choose to save some people who are not Christians, and not save some people who are Christians, at least according to a literal reading of John 14:6.
There is quote from Ricky Gervais I like, “A Christian telling an atheist they're going to hell is as scary as a child telling an adult they're not getting any presents from Santa.”
Your either lying or you can't read. I clearly said, "That stupid thing you call Yahweh of course." It's perfectly clear to anyone who can comprehend simple English that I was referring to your imaginary friend.
pretty sure hitler regretted his lifechoices otherwise he wouldnt have killed himself... so he will be fine in heaven according the christian mythology
Learn to spell, girl. What Christian mythology are you talking about?
Yesterday Stereoguy put up a post "In need of prayer.." where he asked us to pray for Mikleeo2 who has contracted Covid.
Conspicuously absent in the call for prayer and some compassionate words, were the three defenders of this post GodSpeed63, LadyGrace, and Carazza.
Although they claim that they are the ones who will be chosen to enter the Kingdom of Heaven while us believers in evolution will suffer for an eternity in hell, none of these three felt any compassion or felt a need to pray for a member of SW.
I seriously question their motivation for their dogmatic zeal. I truly don't think it is born out of love, empathy, and kindness.
This will be my last comment as I think this all that needs to be said.
Christians....a steaming pile if hosshit..judgeaholics all of them. How an intelligent person can even THINK there is some invisible sky fairy watching over them blows my mind. Such absolute cowardice
Being a hate mongering anti-christ spewing nothing but accusations does not make any argument or reasoning against the Word of God.. It is actually pathetic Fernie.. You do not discuss nor do you even debate.. You just rant and hate..
To a committed Christian your tactics have no effect.. And to interested onlookers your spewing of hate simply makes the atheist position looks like it is one populated with jerks..
To a committed Christian your tactics have no effect.. And to interested onlookers your spewing of hate simply makes the atheist position looks like it is one populated with jerks..
You're half right, brother. There are no such people that are atheists even though these skeptics like to believe otherwise. Atheists are dead in the ground underneath their headstones while these skeptics are dead above ground believing in anything but the one true God and having faith in anything but the one true God.
Romans 1:18-20
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
Science points to God too when done properly, those claiming science instead of God are just members of the atheistic faith, that have faith that there is no God despite evidence
@Sharon I believe the flying spaghetti monster existence is the only thing that is real it says in this book of mine which I will quote to people as evidence
😆Well you don't have to sound so pleased by the prospect lol
Science and intellect will remain as they are today: useful tools that have served un-believers and believers alike.
If god is real and shows up wielding the great flip flop of the heavens then he'll either send us to hell for using the free will and minds he gave us in a way that displeased him or he'll recognize that we used the minds and free will he gave us as honestly as any believer and have mercy.
Either way, we can't choose to be convinced by that which we do not find convincing.
Well you don't have to sound so pleased by the prospect
Forgive me if I sounded pleased by it, I'm not pleased by it and neither is He. Judging people as His enemy doesn't please Him at all. They are, after all, His creation that's been separated from Him from the very beginning.
Your "god" will probably pass judgment on you. Who are you to call anyone "haughty"? Does it not tell the believer not to pass judgment on others, because you, yourself will be judged? Your comment, apart from being judgmental, displays your own haughtiness.
you lied about not believing or having any gods and yet you believe in this FSM idol.
If you believe @NortiusMaximus and I were lying in saying we don't have any god, because we mentioned The Flying Spaghetti Monster, you must recognize the FSM as a god.
Yahweh is the only God who lives forever.
Prove it!
As @NortiusMaximus said, "The Flying Spaghetti Monster has already proven He/She/It is the true god" so it's for you to prove It isn't.
God says we have to come to him like a little child! You’re making it too complicated!
The issue I have with this is that God has not said anything, man has. Man has said God said something and people believe him. Man has said there will be a judgement day, not god. It is one thing to believe in God, it is another to believe in another man's interpretation of him.
@NortiusMaximus I do not critisized anyone! I block bullies and ask them to stop, and if they don’t I report them! I do speak the truth in love though about Jesus!
The work of The Flying Spaghetti Monster is all around us, there's no trace of your stupid idol/god.
Exactly! r'Amen sister.
These lying Christian creationists keep trying to claim the work of The Flying Spaghetti Monster is evidence of their stupid made-up god. They've no sense of decency or shame. :(
Without the Spirit of Christ in you, you can’t enter the Kingdom of God.
Great, I'm safe then. I shan't have to put up with sanctimonious christians for eternity, I'll be enjoying a drink with Odin in Valhalla or with Freyja in Fólkvangr instead. 🍻 :)
@Bushmanoz I personally am much happier without all that hogwash. Life is special snd finite you should cherish it and be the best you can now in your life
You have assiduously avoided even referring to the evidence
You have diverted away from the evidence
Let’s go back over that evidence, shall we? Because you appear to have missed all the evidence... then I’ll give you more evidence so that you can run away from more evidence.
You’re supposed to be addressing the evidence for evolution
Your god isn’t some sort of alternative explanation of the evidence underpinning the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.
Your god is an explanation of nothing.
I understand you’re busy running away from the evidence, so I’ll give you yet more evidence, so that you can catch up later (or run away from it... your choice)
You’re supposed to be addressing the evidence for evolution
What part of 'there's no evidence for evolution' don't you understand?
Your God isn’t some sort of alternative explanation of the evidence underpinning the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.
That's because there is no theory of evolution by natural selection, never has been.
Your God is an explanation of nothing.
My God is the Creator of everything
I understand you’re busy running away from the evidence,
Again, I'm not the one who's running from the evidence, it's you that's doing the running away. You just don't want to bring yourself to believing the truth that science points to God for fear that you could be wrong about your so called 'theory of evolution.' All your science talk and your science degrees and awards will not change that fact.
By ignoring the insults and abuse posted by your fellow Christians. For example, you "sister's" abusive reply here - https://similarworlds.com/2-Community/3390714-I-dont-think-God-Exists-Do-You?com_id=41324015&ncom_id=41402950&sort=1¬if_id=181887814¬if_uid=374012-
Reading through the OP again, you can understand why so many people are rejecting religion. "Believe in God or go to hell". That is the jist of the post. Religion is just another word for mind control. That's why so many Christians get so angry when meeting atheists or agnostics. "Do not judge your God because your God will judge you". In other words, don't question, don't think, just obey like a zombie.
If some posts on SW are any guide, many hard-line would-be evangelists do not recognise "agnostics".
Showing only bitterness and fear of being questioned or of questioning themselves, the worst-afflicted of them divide the world rigidly into Them and Us: "Atheists" and "Christians". Them with evil Satan, Us with heartless God. Christianity only on their own, largely pre- or even un- Christian, terms, too.
I wonder from their deeply-sectarian refusal to recognise, understand and tolerate agnosticism and even other religions, what they make of inter-faith dialogue and services, possibly even simple ecumenism within Christianity itself. Anathema?
Well if your religions is right, I will have been wrong - and you will be right. And I will acknowledge and admire you for that on the final judgement.
But until then, can we please just live in relative peace and defend the planet we live on?
Where will Yahweh be when you breath your last breath and you cease to exist? All that judgmental behaviour, intolerance, meaness, inaction here on earth, closed mindedness, and wasted time was all in vain.
How do you know there will be a Judgement day, and which God will it be? I would join the flock in an instant if there was any actual evidence of a God and which religion was he was in favor of. I am open to it but nothing has convinced me yet...
If I actually did meet God, I wouldn't need to believe; I'd simply accept the new evidence.
It wouldn't change anything about science, because all the principles of physics and how they apply to the material world would continue irrespective of a judgement day.
If I met God, I would hope that entity would recognise that I'd done my best to love, and to live with honesty, integrity and responsibility.
I would ask to be permitted to cease to exist. If that were not permitted, I'd accept whatever happened.
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I don't care what you wish. I wish you would mind your own business and stop trying to tell me how to do mine. I assume you feel the same way about my wishes.
@hippyjoe1955 well, if you did get all up in my face, at least it would distract you from mouthing off at other atheists (which distracts everyone from how badly they behave)
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP Yawn..... Did you say something? It must have been really boring because I couldn't be bothered to pay attention to it. Have a nice flame out.
Well sure, all that, you know, given! From the view point of science, that event never occurs. At the end of your days the only judgement passed is your own. Only you know if your life truly mattered.
I have no idea what you meant by your term 'pseudo science, not science itself’, and was rather hoping you could clarify what you meant... that’s why I asked you.
Still, if you’re unable to lend clarity to the term you used, well, OK...
@JimboSaturn It worries me when I see and hear politicians who call themselves christians trying to discredit scientific advances. Even with Coronavirus, instead of taking notice of the medical experts, they are being thrown under a bus.
@autumngirl27 It's very weird times eh? There is a sub culture going backwards in knowledge to medieval beliefs. I find it ironic that the very medium the author of this post uses to preach was discovered and made possible by the very methodology, science, that is being attacked
@Entwistle Nope, it is TRUTH in ALL CAPS. Your lack of faith doesn't make it false. The blood of Christ is available for forgiveness for ALL sin for those that want it. If people refuse to take it then they will get what they deserve with no mercy. It is entirely each person's choice.
@GodSpeed63 I answered your question. YOU didn't like it ( like I knew you wouldn't). I know why you don't. I used the E word. You didn't answer another of mine. YOU said who told you that fairy tale. I asked "What fairytale?" So instead of projecting, how about answering questions yourself? Unless, of course....
@autumngirl27 I do and will keep on evolving till we become extinct. And we will. So now you can have a sense of humor about it because no one is getting out alive. That's my motto. Do dah do dah
I honestly don't think there's a point of mixing Science with God which they're trying to do. I do believe science is meant to advise people carefully. Learning about space. Technology and other things to make things happen. I don't see any point to go further with science as well which is a common problem for science lovers.
