Amen to that. That's the truth! But I must say that even the Bible is accurate scientifically, in a time when people didn't know much about science. For an example, before the time period when people thought the earth was flat, the Bible calls the earth round and hangs on nothing. The first line of Isaiah 40:22 reads, “It is he [i.e. God] who sits above the circle of the earth.” The Bible also explains the water cycle.

I cannot see why you have put " 'science' " in a sermon trying to frighten us in to believing in your way in your Yahweh, ironically on a system that could not exist without science and engineering.

Religious faith and science are two entirely different concepts with entirely different natures, asking entirely different questions, doing entirely different things.

Religions are monopolistic ("I believe in god X, so your belief in god Y is wrong and evil"; "You and I believe in god Z, but only my sect is right."). The world has seen many self-righteous religions and sects come and go - with most encouraging their followers to claim universal "truth" based merely on their founders' untested, unquestioned, personal religious opinions.

Science transcends god-bothering, and indeed even nations. It has to, because Nature (by any god or none) does not observe human political, social and religious artifices, whereas studying Nature objectively and applying scientific knowledge constructively, relies on international co-operation between people of many faiths and none.

This also means that spiritual faith and objective knowledge are not mutually exclusive. You can be a professional scientist or have a lay interest in science, but still believe in a god driving the cosmos and all it holds, and many do.


Besides, your bleak polemic imagines a deity and its "kingdom" so cold, judgemental, unforgiving, self-righteous and exclusive, I find it darkly amusing, wondering if it would admit any mere human "souls" at all!

There are a plethora of religions that don't believe what you have stated, starting with Judaism, the religion that your faith stems from.

What you're doing is judging (and condemning) others for not believing as you do, whether you recognize it or not. That's something your religion states only your God has the right to do.

You do realize that science is something that human beings created through the intelligence bestowed upon them by said god. If you believe in god, then you believe they created mankind and if they created mankind, then they either created the ability for mankind to increase their knowledge OR gave them that knowledge directly. So if that's true, then the "science" that is used to help people, is god made as well. Right?

Yesterday Stereoguy put up a post "In need of prayer.." where he asked us to pray for Mikleeo2 who has contracted Covid.

Conspicuously absent in the call for prayer and some compassionate words, were the three defenders of this post GodSpeed63, LadyGrace, and Carazza.

Although they claim that they are the ones who will be chosen to enter the Kingdom of Heaven while us believers in evolution will suffer for an eternity in hell, none of these three felt any compassion or felt a need to pray for a member of SW.

I seriously question their motivation for their dogmatic zeal. I truly don't think it is born out of love, empathy, and kindness.

This will be my last comment as I think this all that needs to be said.

Science and intellect will remain as they are today: useful tools that have served un-believers and believers alike.

If god is real and shows up wielding the great flip flop of the heavens then he'll either send us to hell for using the free will and minds he gave us in a way that displeased him or he'll recognize that we used the minds and free will he gave us as honestly as any believer and have mercy.

Either way, we can't choose to be convinced by that which we do not find convincing.

@Carazaa The issue I have with this is that God has not said anything, man has. Man has said God said something and people believe him. Man has said there will be a judgement day, not god. It is one thing to believe in God, it is another to believe in another man's interpretation of him.

Reading through the OP again, you can understand why so many people are rejecting religion. "Believe in God or go to hell". That is the jist of the post. Religion is just another word for mind control. That's why so many Christians get so angry when meeting atheists or agnostics. "Do not judge your God because your God will judge you". In other words, don't question, don't think, just obey like a zombie.

Well if your religions is right, I will have been wrong - and you will be right. And I will acknowledge and admire you for that on the final judgement.

But until then, can we please just live in relative peace and defend the planet we live on?

Where will Yahweh be when you breath your last breath and you cease to exist? All that judgmental behaviour, intolerance, meaness, inaction here on earth, closed mindedness, and wasted time was all in vain.

How do you know there will be a Judgement day, and which God will it be? I would join the flock in an instant if there was any actual evidence of a God and which religion was he was in favor of. I am open to it but nothing has convinced me yet...
