If you were suddenly struck with cancer and you look back on your life

Do you think you deserve to die?
we are all going to die, whether we deserve it or not.
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy Exactly my thought…
Getting cancer as a child was bad. Spending the next 51 years going for check ups and another 18 operations. Nearly died twice I dont look back but forward seeing my kids grow and grand kids

Death is inevitable, whether you die with an illness or without it.
But I think one always wishes to die in a painless manner.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Fertilization Exactly. You’ve nailed it. 👍

@Loretta78 😘 Thankyou.
“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?”

Didn't know we had a choice. Thought we were all mortal -- you know, the death and taxes thing. As it is, I have two cancers -- they sort of grow on you as you age in most cases , so doesn't really feel like being struck. I guess if you are younger and develop it, it would feel more like being struck. But otherwise it is more a case of the inevitable. I am reminded of when my wife -- who had a long history of cancer in her family -- discovered a lump in her breast. She said, "it actually is a relief. I knew it was coming someday, and now that it is here I can fight it." She actually won that battle. Didn't with the subsequent lung cancer battle. Cigarettes 1, DNA 0.

As far as looking back, no regrets. Came a lot farther, accomplished and experienced far more than I or anyone else ever expected, and am leaving two accomplished and successful generations to keep on truckin'.

am always ready for it as nothing to lose any more

Cancer does not care about that.

I just learned there is a 4% chance I might have colon cancer. I gave a stool sample (that Cologuard test). My test result was positive. They say of those who test positive, 4% had cancer, and 51% had precancerous polyps. So now I need a colonoscopy.

Fun times.

everyone dies, no matter if you think you deserve it or not. Its just a matter of how. Cancer is a shit way to go out, no doubt there though

If you get to live then you got to die. Doesn't matter if I think I deserve it or not. I've made it pretty far though.
jehova · 31-35, M
I was waking up in the hospital for months bc of a brain tumor. No memory bed ridden depressed thank god for family I sometimes wondered what id done to deserve this. However it isnt my fault so much that i must do better and fix my past mistakes. Its a new begining now that im Out and home. I actually think i dl deservd to die. I'm going through this right now. It's pretty miserable.
Ontheroad · M
Nah, dying is the easy way out.
MoonlightLullaby · 41-45, F

@MoonlightLullaby Things I wish I never knew, and things I hope others never experience.

Doesn't matter
We all die eventually
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
It has nothing to do with deserve. We all die.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
No but illnesses don't care.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
it's not a matter of deserving.
it's simply a fact of life.

it's going to happen to everyone of us sooner or later.

my dad died in his 90s and it was too soon.

was it fair? no...just equal.
travelguy01 · 41-45, M
Everyone dies, it’s not about deserving it.
Alyosha · 31-35, M
No, but I'd be happy anyway. At least things would be over.

I'm... not sure.

Emotionally, I'm the type who can easily go back and forth between emotional states on a dime.

Would I feel it was unfair? Maybe a little. But I know that doesn't change anything.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
We all die of different things. Whether they deserve it doesn't matter.
Disguised · 56-60, M
Now or later makes little difference if it's deserved
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
I have lived my life. That’s why I would be ready to die.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
We are all gonna die from something is the way I look at it
auris · M
Yes but not as much as some i wish to see go first.
Richard65 · M
I'd say do not go gentle into that good night
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
No. But there are plenty who think i should.
"Deserve" ? Not for me to say, but it would make more sense than for a younger person. I’ve lived a good life, longer than many of my friends.

Deserve? We all deserve to die. That's life.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I think death will claim its due some day, but it isn't about deserving or not, it just is. Having had a cancer diagnosis before, I found a sense of calm clarity. The things that had to be done became more clear, less scary. Fortunately I survived but from that experience I never felt like I had deserved to die. If anything, my biggest concern was that there are too many people that rely on me that would then struggle without me.
Not at this age
melissa001 · 51-55, F
it’s not about deserving, because we all have to die. lol. it’s like breathing air, do any of us deserve it?
Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
