My Novel Reads

PINNED

Noted a few people were interested in that I mentioned finishing a series, so I'll coalesce a number of threads here based on what I've read. Try to keep discussions as replies to specific title threads and avoid spoilers. Books coming in new posts... See More »

Well, guess I'm the enemy now.

The barrier to offend is getting pretty darn low.... https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2026/10/08/trump-calls-anyone-who-says-ai-instead-of-super-intelligence-an-enemy/

I've got this weird hairy lump on my belly and it's causing some stabbing pains...

Should I get it removed?

Venturing north and I see the signs of those wildfires.

In Florence, Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati, Ohio. Just a light haze in the air. Mere remnants. Tomorrow I continue on to Toledo area. Heard it was really bad there a couple days ago but it's much lighter now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Question for the Gen Z video game players

How many of you all engage in streamer talk even if not streaming? I've witnessed a few now that just talk to themselves or react while gaming and there's no voice call and no camera and I'm just wondering if this is from growing up with twitch and... See More »

I believe that people who claim that AI is unable to think are not underestimating AI so much as overestimating human ability to think

An incredibly long, rough night and then this morning a fever!

And phantom leg pain throughout. Happy Monday, everyone...

It really is the little things...

Something so small can set the pace of the entire day Now that I've nailed this post, I'm still screwed so I have to bolt.

(Political discussion warning) For those curious about the post Rogueish deemed worthy of deletion

Pretty shady behavior to hide behind insinuations of personal attack and then delete posts and claim victory when someone calls out his bad logic. If he just deleted the post, then whatever. But since he's deemed it good enough to post that I... See More »

How often do you encounter bananas that taste similar to banana flavored candies and popsicles?

It's pretty rare. I just had one. Very sweet and a strong flavor. My next bland banana is going to be so disappointing now 😅

If we really need to saber rattle...

Can we do it with the intention of actually making something better? Like, start saber rattling at nations that don't do anything about scammers operating call centers in their nations? Like, I don't really think that's worth going to war over. But... See More »

Amusing times with AI

For the tech inclined https://github.com/google-gemini/gemini-cli/issues/16750

You shouldn't just ask "Do you want some cornbread?" if what you are serving is jalapeño cornbread.

Some things require more specificity. And this is an important detail for some of us super white folk. 😅

When you are young and choke on some water it is a rough couple of minutes...

When you are old and you choke on some water it is a rough couple hours.

So tired of getting messages asking if I'll sell my house

Phone calls, emails, text messages, snail mail, flyers on my freaking door. These people are everywhere, like cockroaches. If I want to sell my house I'll list it! Seriously, these people bothering folks with unlisted houses should be fined for... See More »

Needing to go to sleep but my brain decides now is the time to think about the problems in the world

And muse on solutions to fix things that I have no influence or power over fixing. So that's useful, brain. Thanks.

Doing trick or treat in the office today

Handing out candy to co-workers' children as they go hunting for balloons among the desks (our sign for who is handing out). It really is my favorite holiday. I always loved trick or treating as a child and I think I actually like handing out the... See More »

Covid doesn't know what it wants to be for me anymore apparently...

Every day seems to be a different mix and match of symptoms. Took the test yesterday and it came in positive, second confirmed time I've had it. First day I was symptomatic I couldn't tell if it was illness or allergies setting in. Second day was a... See More »

All the evidence you need that our current economic model is f***ed.

https://www.unilad.com/technology/space/nasa-psyche-16-value-gold-quintillion-942521-20250706 One asteroid, if brought in and harvested, would make gold and platinum so plentiful that they'd become worthless. And people view that kind of abundance... See More »

Don't be mad at China

Thought this video had quite a good point. The US is richer than ever, but has that translated to benefits for the average citizen? A lot of profit was made from trade with China, whose fault is it that only a handful of people benefited from that... See More »

Prime Day is July 8 - 11

Just saw this notice and it felt really bad. Prime DAY... 8th through 11th. It's not just Christmas anymore, companies are even stretching out their made up days now. Spend, spend, spend good little consumers.

Is it time to ditch the term millenium and bring on the kiloyear?

At what point do you consider someone admirably rich? At which point, if any, do you consider them immorally rich?

What does financial success look like to you? And is there a point where you feel people should be satisfied and stop being greedy?

Why don't we call nations by what they call themselves?

Or at least as close to our languages allow us? Like, why do we just decide that no Deutschland, we're going to call you Germany.

Boomer CEO says Gen Z has no reason to be depressed...

Because unless there is a nuclear war they will have unbelievable lives thanks to the Great Wealth Transfer. And also says that within the next two decades millennials are set to be the richest generation in history. I am not sure why that inspired... See More »
