Needing to go to sleep but my brain decides now is the time to think about the problems in the world

And muse on solutions to fix things that I have no influence or power over fixing. So that's useful, brain. Thanks.

Are you sure you have no influence?

While we can't fix many problems, we can minimize suffering. It is possible. We do have some control.

Before bed isn't the time most definitely. I hope you find a relaxing thought or feeling to build a little comfort on, and sleep on a positive note.

But what were your ideas

@class There's quite a few, honestly. And a lot of it is US-centric instead of literally world centric. But trying to point out the speck in the eye of another while ignoring the splinter in your own is something my nation has been guilty of for quite some time. I also believe it is easier for people to want to be good global citizens when they feel secure and are not being driven by fear and hatred. A lot of my thought process also involves thinking about unintended consequence as best as I'm able to follow those threads to prematurely close them. A lot of the individual ideas are not new, so I won't try to claim credit for creating them. I have just been thinking about them.

As an example, our government is deep in debt we have more billionaires than ever and a small number of people trying to become the first trillionaire at a time when half the country can barely afford to keep a roof over their head. I personally think it's a problem that such a disparity exists. Not just morally, but for the sake of functional economics. I'm not against a person running a business getting paid a little more than someone mopping floors, but not 100X more.

There's a lot of proposals related to the broader topic. From raising minimum wage for the janitor to taxing the rich person. But the same naysaying argument arises again and again: Capital Flight - That is if you try to get in the way of a rich man's profits they will leave the country and take their money with them.

So one of the things I was thinking about was a non-citizen ownership tax. I want people to be free to own things. But I think ownership of US land and businesses should favor the citizens of the US. A non-citizen ownership tax would mean that if the rich people try to flee the country, they get taxed on the assets they've acquired and not relinquished. They don't get to benefit from the US without contributing back to the US.

Then I started wondering if this would also be a tool to help rein in housing and rent prices. Foreign investors would still be allowed to invest in US property, but the extra tax hopefully makes it less appealing and gives more competitive edge to actual US citizens.

And then I wondered if we used that tax revenue to fund some popular programs if it might not help how people in the US tend to view non-citizen immigrants.

Then I considered what happens if such a tax just causes the wealthy to liquidate their assets and sell them off or destroy them. But that just seems like it would create more opportunity for up and coming citizens to grow into the void left. Hopefully under a more balanced paradigm.

And then some lesser thoughts about public housing and transportation and federal jobs programs. Punitive vs rehabilitative focused justice systems.

There's a lot. And s lot of it interconnects.
