Do you view feminism as a mean of superiority over men?

Probably not superior to men nor to any sexes but for ourselves as an equal to all human species..
Top | New | Old
I feel like modern day feminism is not what it was meant to be. Roll back to when feminism started, it really was going for equality. But these days, I think a lot of feminists are kind of just toxic
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@SomeMichGuy Yeah. I have meet some ladies on here. Doesn't mater if your nice to them. Your still a man. Some of it has been cause by other men. But still some man haters are still out there
@ThatOneMan i totally agree. 3rd wave in particular have totally lost the plot. Andrea Dworkin now looks like a moderate.
Peaches · F
@ThatOneMan YES, ⭐️you are so right!
Sharon · F
Feminism began as a campaign for sex equality. Unfortunately, that's not enough for some women, they want inequality with superior rights for women.
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@Sharon What ever the cost
@Sharon abolitionist and suffragette, here.
You should agree that context can't matter because history doesn't exist for you.

In spite of appearances, Feminism was never about equality.

In the late 60s, it was referred to as the Women's Movement, a name similar to that of the Trades Union Movement and, like a trade union for women, the purpose was to get the best deal possible for females.

But this usually meant fighting causes where women were treated less favourably than men, such as in unequal salaries or job opportunities - so it became confused with a struggle for equality.

We all know of examples in our society where females have an advantage compared to males, but feminism ignores these. In fact, many feminists even campaigned against some, such the equalisation of the retirement age in the UK, and they still encourage shorter prison sentences for females who commit the same crimes as males.

It also explains why the early feminist movement campaigned against men-only clubs yet they supported female-only clubs.

And that's also why they're not interested in promoting domestic abuse shelters for men. Their philosophy is... "if men want them, then it's up to men to do something about it". Which is fair enough, but that's not quite how the struggle for equality works. You don't get to pick and choose.

But feminism is not a fight for gender equality any more than a trade union is a fight for equality between managers and staff. It's about getting the best deal for women. Which is perfectly fine, as long as they're honest about it.

Here's an example of what I mean. This is from a feminist-themed article about being homeless. It only sees homelessness as a problem if you're female - homeless men are ignored.

The feminist movement definitely isn't what it used to be. It started out with the goal of equal opportunities and equal pay for women. But now, it's been taken over by extremists, whose goals are to make men the bad guys, take offense at everything, and and seek not equality, but dominance.
Sepia · 36-40, F
@bhatjc women who were or misheard abuse..use dominance as defense mechanism
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@Sepia Then they become the abuser

Not in general, but my husband wants me to be superior. Apart from that I am a staunch advocate of equal rights.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@subhubby You are very similar to my hubby.
subhubby · 56-60, M
@HairbrushDiva thank you it’s nice to meet other couples who have the same dynamic and true submissives like me who feel this way about FLRs.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@subhubby We have several friends in the same kind of relationship.
Candice · 46-50, F
Men and women are equal but they have different roles and I'm quite happy for my husband to take the lead in the family. I know that doesn't fit in with a lot of modern thinking But it's what works for us
Men are not oppressed by women. They are oppressed by other men, and always have been.
Sharon · F
@LeopoldBloom Despite its name, the original aim of feminism was sex equality. More recently, the term has been adopted by misandrists whose aim is female supremacy. That's why I prefer to identify as an egalitarian rather than a feminist now.
IWasCallingYaLarry · 31-35, M
@LeopoldBloom not necessarily true. Men are oppressed by women and also by the government, especially in court. We're second class citizens at this point.
@IWasCallingYaLarry That's MRA propaganda. Men hold the vast majority of leadership positions in government, business, religion, academia, entertainment, and the media - pretty much every power center in America, yet women are oppressing men? What your indoctrination isn't telling you is that the patriarchy oppresses men as much as it oppresses women. Who passed the laws that screwed you over in court and who enforced them? Male legislators and male judges. Just because some social worker is female doesn't mean women are in charge of that system.
Remmy · F
NO! I believe we are different from but equal to men.
popmol · 26-30, M
@Remmy correct
Funlov · M
@Remmy not equal each have different strengths, but not equal men or not better women are better, but we’re not equal by any means
akindheart · 61-69, F
not at all. they can do stuff I can't. but i am entirely self sufficient so i don't need them to take care of me. we both have our strengths and weaknesses.
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@akindheart Good for you
Entwistle · 56-60, M
Do women really want equality in all aspects?
99% of all bricklayers are men.
Should we ensure its a 50/50 split?
Should the same apply to the armed forces?
@Sharon Heck, they had a female PM in Pakistan of all places. That would be like a Jewish girl being voted Miss Rheingold.

We're a ways from having a female president in the US.
Sharon · F
@Entwistle
And all three were arseholes.
I tend to agree. Two of them were totally useless but one was, at least, a strong leader. Much like Attila the Hun; Genghis Kahn; Adolf Hitler; Benito Mussolini et al.
.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Sharon Agreed. Awful woman..but she had balls!

YouCanCallMeDan · 41-45, M
It’s designed to make men and women compete against each other, when we should be working together.
YouCanCallMeDan · 41-45, M
@EugenieLaBorgia I thought masculinism would be good too. Maybe that’s the direction we are heading. I don’t know. It might be a bit tit for tat though. I’d rather hear that more young people are choosing to get married. Marriage education in schools. Encouraging the two genders to unite rather than compete.
@YouCanCallMeDan Yes! I am a firm believer in marriage - of opposite sexes, not same sex! I'd rather have that tit for tat because I know that with men it would be humourous rather than acrimonious!
SoggedNapped · 31-35, M
@YouCanCallMeDan I don't think one can promote homosexuality.. It just is.. Sexuality is a broad spectrum.. most folks fall near one end or the other, but lots fall between too.
revenant · F
We live in a more and more feminised society and it is boring.
revenant · F
@subhubby adventure is now a taboo word. Everything has to be " safe".
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@revenant Amen to that.
@revenant Ummm citation needed. Feelings don't count.
Peaches · F
Not at all. 🙂 Women have the same rights as men, if they can do the same job they should get the same pay. ⭐️

The Islamic view is a little interesting. God is the one who empowers both men and women. No one is better in spirituality because of their gender. Some responsibilities and rights defer between men and women. Women’s rights were given 1400 years ago in Islam. Whereas in Canada in the 1900s.

Islamic perspective on western fronts of feminism is that when the role of God is removed from the whole context, then feminism tacitly adopts men as the standard that to which women should look up to. Whereas islamically, the laws uplift women.

For example, the wives of a Muhammad peace be upon them. One was a rich business woman. The other became a scholar who also knew medicine and led an army. 50 years before that the society used to bury little girls and practice prostitution. Think if lasvegas turning into a civil state in 50 years.
Highonheels · 51-55, M
I think that men should respect women and women should respect men equally in all aspects I don’t think niether should rule or be dominate over the other , women desire to be treated as the equals ( which they by definition already are) because for so many years they were treated as though they were the weaker sex compared to men which made them feel like they had to prove themselves as equals , this comparison technically isn’t true in every case , I feel that in the last 20+ years women have proven themselves to be equal (not superior) in many ways to men and I do not think either sex is superior to the other , we as each individual have traits , skills , knowledge , etc... which stand above others but these things do not differentiate between male or female it just is what it is , my point is while thier may be some men that are physically stronger than some women there are also some women that are physically stronger than some men and this is true with all aspects of both genders.
So this feminism movement shouldn’t strive to prove that women are better or superior to men but that they are just as good in all aspects. Women have taken on the responsibilities and tasks of men for years now , you no longer have to prove yourselves at least to me anyway , I have always seen women as equals I have never treated them as any lesser being , I was raised to respect women and I always try to do just that , but I also treat them also as the individuals that they are.
BlueVeins · 22-25

Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Yes, you know if two things are different and you can measure them then you will find that one is superior, it kind of has to be that way.
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@Subsumedpat an elephant and a pocket calculator?
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@Yulianna That comes down to the if you can measure them part of my statement, if your measurement is of accurate mathematics the calculator wins as the superior of the two, if you are measuring smashing stuff it would be the elephant.

I believe in equality, yes

That helping (or at least not impeding) another reach their full human potential-enriches us all
Highonheels · 51-55, M
@SW-User I agree completely very well said , after all we are all human being whether male or female we should all look at each other as equals in all aspects of life , if we all come together we can do wonders for this world and society in general would be all the better for it but all this feminism and masculizm bull crap is holding back as a people , while women in general are considered to be the physiacally weaker sex they have other strengths that most men don’t have so if we could combine all of our strengths we could accomplish so much more together than we ever could apart.
Straylight · 31-35, F
Its equality, as it should be.

NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
Some have been known to use it that way.
SW-User
No, but it could be misinterpreted sadly. And there is women who probably misunderstand the affect it could have on men, as I think the original idea was to promote an idea of equality over anything, and in that time, women would need to be vocal, where as now, where gender equality is still not overcome there has been some changes, especially now where gender itself is a larger question in of itself.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
It wasn't intended that way, but some feminists have distorted it to mean that.
SW-User
As a species we should not compare between men and women, both are different biologically, emotional and everything. Both men and women has their unique beauty which can't be compared to each other. Both are equal. There is no need of words like feminism or superiority. It's bunch of people who created this words to make someone superior or inferior.

Just think as feminine and masculine energies, both has it's own beauty. You cant compare or replace one another.
Budwick · 70-79, M
an equal to all human species..

How many human species do you think there is?
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@Budwick men and women aren't equal any more than bananas and pears are equal

Different, not the same to compare

And as you say there are only two

And a man is meant for authority and leadership while a woman is a helper
Elegy · 46-50
Feminism is shining a light on inequality. What more people make out of it is different to each person. Inequality needs to be highlighted but equality should be the end goal for everyone.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
From what I understand feminism started out as getting equal rights to men, vote, drive, work...then it moved on to things like pay and job types. Certain sections of the movement seems to think it means a reversal of what once was. Where men used to be on top and women below, they feel it should now be women on top.

However the actual feminist movement is still grappling with things like education, reproductive rights and quality of life.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
If women are just as good as men (in the business world) and bosses can pay them less then how come all business leaders aren't women?
If I could pay women less to do top jobs and they would do those jobs as good as men.. as seems to be the case now..then how come all top jobs aren't taken by women?
@Entwistle OK, it's about paying CEOs as much money as possible, so they don't want women to do that job as they would have to pay them less.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@LeopoldBloom They wouldn't HAVE to pay women less. They would choose to
@Entwistle A systemic problem means they don't consciously choose to. It just happens as a property of the system if no one is paying attention or willing to admit that there is a systemic problem.

That's the definition of a systemic problem. In this case, companies paying women less for the same work even though the individuals doing it are not misogynists.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
at least equal, some superior. I worked with some women who were amazingly brilliant.

Its a way to express individualism for women. To state their view without being compared with that of men. To be self confident and also self sufficient. Its our choice our view and its our life. Feminism has got nothing to do with men.
popmol · 26-30, M
it used to be about equality but in this day and age its about having more

goodness no!

i see feminism, the original concept of it as a lifting of the burden of expected roles .

Feminism was meant to create equal opportunity for both sexes to free them from societal pigeon holing allowing us all to make choices in our adult life free from stigmatisation and harassment .

it is meant to break down the gender barrier that constricts so many.

But....today , feminism makes me sad and angry. its lost its heart and become this biased petty philosophy.

I really am not a feminist, although I don't believe there are things a man can do that woman can't and there are things women can do that men can't do... We are different.... Sometimes we should try to be supliment each other instead see who's the most superior...
@Sepia everyone falls? huh?
Sepia · 36-40, F
@SomeMichGuy what I meant by that..every gender is equal (ceteris paribus)
@Sepia that phrase means "all else being equal"...
Pretzel · 70-79, M
when it first started I think it was an attempt to get an equal footing with men.

they couldn't vote and there were all manner of social restrictions that we would just shake our head at today.

but like any other movement side agendas get added so feminism doesn't mean one thing anymore.

so when someone says they are a feminist it doesn't mean ONE thing.

but yeah, I had a mom and have a daughter - so I believe in equal rights and fair treatment. and that extends to race, color, weight, height and any other descriptor.
