Hypnosis for anxiety

Has anyone had any experience with hypnosis to help them deal with their confidence issues?

I'm considering getting an appointment, but wouldn't know what to expect or recommendations.

I suffered from horrible test anxiety in college. It was so bad that during exams I could barely remember my name or string together a coherent thought. Then I happened to see news story about hypnosis. Using it to overcome test anxiety was one of the things that they mentioned. So I called the tv station and got a referral to the therapist they interviewed. I went through the hypnosis treatment and it worked. It allowed me to conquer my test anxiety and excel academically. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

If you haven't checked it out, their are a lot of hypnosis videos on youtube, including for anxiety
If you need help finding one let me know and I'll try and comment some.
Alternatively, it can also help just to have someone listen. I am trying to be a better listener myself so if you need to unload, feel free to with me :)

have you looked up stuff on YouTube like hypnosis tapes or self-hypnosis

you can see if any self-affirmations or relationship techniques with any of those, have any effect, before you think about going to a therapist

I used it for anxiety over an upcoming surgery,the woman was a psychologist as well as a hypnotist..money well spent
HarleenQuinzel21 · 22-25, F
@bookerdana she was both? That must have been really interesting to talk to her.

Would you say it worked?
bookerdana · M
@HarleenQuinzel21 Definitely worked and she was interesting🙂 A good experience

Hypnosis sounds like an interesting idea, certainly well worth trying. I've been curious about hypnotism, too,. bust haven't worked up the courage. I hope you'll let us know what happens.

Speak to yourself in the mirror. Tell yourself you love yourself 9 times in the morning every day and look in your eyes. If its difficult build up to saying it by saying something similar.

My friend once underwent hypnosis after a life changing accident left him with depression. He was very sceptical and not the kind of person who would ordinarily believe in hypnosis, but he said the sessions were incredibly effective and helped lift him out of his depression. I guess it all depends on your approach to the idea and your willingness to embrace the experience of hypnosis. If you're at the point that you're even considering the option because you need that level of help, then I think you should try a couple of sessions. You can always call a halt to it if you feel it's not working.

Yeah back in the 60s and 70s, people would go for monthly, weekly if they were rich psychotherapy stuff and, it was always like 10 sessions, or people doing like 20, 50 sessions for trauma and therapy.
And I've read some people saying that some people after decades or 200 sessions, seemed 'like a squeezed orange, without any juice'

just run down

LIfe is no fun, and sometimes therapy is no fun

I had one friend terrified of needles, so they had a hypnosis dentist, worked for him

It really depends on you, some are very susceptible to hypnosis (me) and others just are not.

I knew a psychologist who used to teach self hypnosis to help students with test anxiety. He had a very high success rate and even taught my wife the technique before a serious surgery. It mostly involves focus and concentration so I would go for it.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I would never do that. I'd be afraid of saying things I would regret saying to someone I don't even know.

Did you undego hypnotherapy, Harleen?
HarleenQuinzel21 · 22-25, F
@Richard65 no I haven't
Richard65 · M
@HarleenQuinzel21 ok, I realise it's a significant thing to do, so you're not sure about it - that's understandable. I hope you're in good spirits today 😊
Snowleopard2000 · 51-55, M
Did you try this? Did it work?
HarleenQuinzel21 · 22-25, F
@Snowleopard2000 nope I did not
Snowleopard2000 · 51-55, M
@HarleenQuinzel21 I think I'd be in two minds about it, although I think some alternative remedies do have merits
HarleenQuinzel21 · 22-25, F
@Snowleopard2000 I'm being open-minded about anything. Maybe I'll go through with it if I find a good hypnotist that is affordable
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
You can do self hypnosis from guided meditations on youtube. I do it all the time.
Danny2591 · 31-35, M

@Fatteninglover97 does it work? Everywhere I look online it's mixed opinions. I've never thought about hypnosis and it's a little scary to me
Fatteninglover97 · 26-30, M

Go for it..nothing to lose. Go with someone you trust too for support
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Be careful ... they may say you need something like 100 sessions before it becomes effective
WateryLasagna · 56-60, M
@BigGuy2
Personally I wouldn't trust a Hypnotherapist offering Pizza Pops

Actually I don't trust comedians offering Pudding Pops either!

But I did once cut out the coupon for Olive Garden conferences with Leo Buscalgia in the back of one of his books.
Now there's a therapist!
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@WateryLasagna i missed his show, must have been washing my hair
WateryLasagna · 56-60, M
@BigGuy2
Buscaglia was on infinite repeat for 15 years of PBS

The Italian Family of Endless Love Therapist

His books are sound actually, all you need is a decent family, and living wages and 1950s 1960s 1970s 1980s standards of living!
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Talking to a good listener helps
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Accupuncture may be the better option
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Try accupuncture as well
