First grade. All the teachers got a call from the office to turn off all the TVs in the classrooms. My teacher turned ours on. We all watched the second plane crash into the second tower.
My dad, then as now, traveled for work and was away. I thought we'd never see him again when all the planes were grounded.
After a bit he did get home... My six year old mind had it like years before I saw him again... It was probably days, idk. 🤷♀
It was awful..

I might have seen it on TV when it happened, but I was too young to understand it. I remember sitting around at home with my Mom, asking her what was going on, and her just telling me it was nothing. I could tell she was distressed, but I didn't press further.

@TryingtoLava What do you remember when you were two years old?
@Diotrephes color blue color red then a blanket and a green rocking chair but ik what age i was its just one of my earliest memories like i could been 3 or 4 or even 1

@TryingtoLava While I have lots of childhood memories, I have no idea how old I was when those things happened.

It occurred when I was on my way to work and had my radio off. I was always the first person in and was making coffee when I heard a phone ring... it was in the adjoining conference room and thinking it had to be someone who knew I'd be there, I answered it.
It was a woman I had been dating and who had stayed at my place the night before... she was still there and had seen it on television and was calling me in a panic because her sister lived in Manhattan and she couldn't get her on the phone.
It took me a bit to understand what she was telling me and then when I got it, I turned on the TV in the conference room.
She stayed on the phone crying and I stood there in shock, then anger, then shock and disbelief.

@TryingtoLava I did, and it took a couple of days for the magnitude of the event to sink in. Luckily her sister wasn't harmed, and at least that turned out okay.

Vividly, yes. I used to work next door at 1 BT Plaza. One of the towers fell on it so it was demolished.
This year was the first time I’ve been back in the city downtown to visit the area. So much is completely unrecognizable.
On the day of, I was watching in a friend’s store in Newport, RI. It was hard to process as I had a lot of friends there and literally was in that exact area thousands of times, including the Path trains which were underneath the WTC.

I was dead asleep that morning, when my GF came bursting into the bedroom with “We’re being attacked!”
In my mind, the US is always being attacked somewhere in the world, so no biggie. “That’s nice.” I said, rolling over and going back to sleep.
A while later, she came back into the bedroom “The trade tower had fallen!”
In my sleepy state, I said “Good for it.”
Then…”Wait, the trade tower as in New York??”
Moments later I was out in the living room watching the second tower fall on live tv, not really believing what I was seeing.

Yes, I remember it vividly. I was at work that day and a co-worker who had the day off called me on the phone. She started describing what had happened and it sounded unreal to me, like the plot of a bad movie. I told her that and she agreed it didn't sound real, but sadly, it was.
@Rutterman i bet it felt like a movie like last attack on america was pearl harbor 60 years earlier

@TryingtoLava Yes, something like that.

I remember everything. It was a bit like when we first sheltered in place for covid and I stepped outside and it was so quiet. No traffic sounds. One of those surreal reminders that the unthinkable happens.
@JustNik the silence was deafening

I was on the subway going into DC when it happened. I was only a few miles from the Pentagon.
When I got to work I heard murmuring in the office. News websites were inaccessible due to traffic. Then a supervisor came around and told us to go home. I do not recall what else she said, or how much detail.
I went outside, since I knew the subway would be packed. I had a walkman and heard the news on the radio. I walked toward the National Mall, and saw people evacuating the Capitol. The radio said a plane was heading to DC. Then it crashed in PA. Then a Tower fell.
I wandered around. I saw fighter jets circling. I saw smoke in the distance where the Pentagon was. I walked all the way over there, across an empty bridge, to the police line. A side of the building was on fire. I could smell it. So awful.
I wandered by the graves of Arlington and took the subway home. Then I turned on the TV. Oh my!

I didn't find out about it until I got to work and everyone was talking about it. I was scared and in shock. Nothing like that had ever happened in my lifetime.
From then on I kept wondering if more terrorist attacks would keep happening. It was a scary time.

I saw the news flash on tv here in the UK then watched in horror as the second plane hit and the tower collapsed.
My daughter was 6 months old and i recall holding her in my arms much if the day in watching tv in total shock. I ran with her in my arms to pick my son up from school (school was 3 minutes away) and ran home again. I just wanted my kids close and safe. I kept thinking what a dreadful world i'd brought them into that this sort of thing was happening.

Yes. I'd flown into NYC the night before. I'd just arrived at the company office we were to be based in that week and starting to set up for a long 3 day meeting I was involved in running.
Our host came in in tears and explained there had been a terrible accident. We went to the other side of the building where we could see the trade towers.
We're all discussing how on earth an accident could happen as the second plane came in and hit. There was shouting, crying etc.
I remember turning to a colleague looking at me in shock and I said "It's an attack l. Not an accident".

I was actually right across the river by Paramus NJ in a diner waiting to pick up a load of welded steel. I went in and the first tower was on the diner TV news burning. We all watched but weren't alarmed. Minutes later the second plane hit. The diner immediately emptied out. Everyone knew something terrible was going on. By the time I got back to my truck fighter jets were everywhere. The news wasn't giving out information but said all roads are closed and stay put. I tried to call home ( New Mexico) but there was no cell service. I didn't even know if those fighter jets were ours.

Well I was 34 then and the kids had to be in school early that day for some reason and I had to drive them to the city. Because school bus wouldn't have gotten them there in time and I was just getting back from from dropping kids off at school and I was getting ready to the field and start my day of chopping hay.
Right before I walked out the door. The phone rings. Its the school calling asking us if we want to pick up our kids.
(I think a lot concerned moms got overly worried and wanted to pick up their kids)
I'm like for what for. I still had no idea what was going on. I didn't watch TV in the morning and the car we had, the radio was broken.
They told me and I pretty much said "They can stay there and take the school bus home. I have field work I have to get done. That's going on in New York and not here in are tiny part of Wisconsin"
I hung up and went to go work in the field like it was a normal thing

Yes. I was on my way to work late and heard about the first plane on the radio. I saw the second plane hit on a small TV at work. Being not far from DC when a third plane hit the Pentagon we got a call from our Scottsdale office sending everyone home because no one knew what was coming next.

Yes, I remember it very well. I was at work, and a customer told me of the first plane crash. A tragic, very sad event. When I heard about the second plane, I remember thinking it was that but even more, and that nothing would be quite the 'same' again.

I had just gotten out of jail on sept.9 and spent a few nights out at the beach to clear my head out and try to figure out what to do with my life, like somehow stop drinking.I biked over to the boat launch and there were a bunch of firefighters deploying boats and I saw Stimpy and Kent on a bench and I'm like"what's up,guys did someone drown?" (This is in California, but I was born in NY) and Stimpy goes "oh they're just doing training manouvers-but bro,the World Trade Center blew up!" whooa.
So we drink a few beers 'cause I really needed a buzz at that point and I bike 10 miles into the next town to go talk to Orbit Rob as he has a government/intellegence background and might have some deeper understanding of what the heck is going on and he is fully freaked out waiting to be remobilized or whatever and has sent his wife and kid into hiding, has a duffel bag full of weapons and spy junk and is hypervigilant and rattled as he mumbles at the TV as WTC 2 and the Pentagon erupt into smoke we pass the weed pipe and slurp this bottle of brandy I had stashed under his porch for just such an emergency. But no way am I getting into his meth cache,he is unravelling by the moment and sweating, completely tense and babbling speedfreak conspiracy jazz so I eventually bow out and go make a new camp up on a hill in the woods and try to settle my mind as I ponder WW3 and the fall of Babylon and what I'm going to tell probation about why I just dropped off the map for a few days, but it all worked out over time. And eventually about 7 years later I was able to stop the drugs and alcohol abuse and improve my situation. That was a very intense day,for real.

Yeah, I was at work, but there was a TV in one room showing the news; shots of the towers burning. And I remember the collapse. It was very painful. It just hurt, more than anything else. And I remember going outside and there were zero planes in the sky near the airport. Our son was just under two years old. We had the TV on in the late afternoon, and he saw the fires on replay and said hot hot? We turned off the TV and took him for a walk.

I’ll never forget where I was and what was happening. I was on my way to work and it was on the radio in my car. In the lane next to me was a young lady that was a coworker. She was also obviously listening to the radio and we were at a traffic light. The light turned green, she made a left turn and totaled out her car, turning in front of an oncoming car that had the right away. She survived but there was permanent damage to her legs.

We all went online and looked at the news footage and started to discuss it...I wonder what happened....that's awful...hope people are ok...
Then the second plane hit. And you could feel the change.
We all knew what it was. We all knew we were under attack.
It got crazy then...all sorts of weird rumors...the state department had been hit by a bomb...there were a dozen more planes out there they lost contact with...
We all watched in horror as first a plane hit the Pentagon...then the first tower fell...then the second....
I couldn't get my girlfriend(and now wife) on the phone because the phone lines were jammed.
I finally got her on the phone and told her to leave her office building...she worked in downtown Philly right across from Liberty place...which were 2 identical skyscrapers in Philly...
We met at home and embraced. Spent the day watching it unfold on the news...awful awful day....

I do remember that for years after it happened, it was taboo to talk about it.
