If I were to get back all the money I've let people borrow from me, I could pay my house off.
That's fun when they turn it around like you're the one who owes them something, or my absolute favorite, is how quickly they turn on you the second you won't give them anymore money.

@NickyLee ugh as they say..dont dx yourself with depression until you assess the aholes around you!!!
NickyLee · 41-45
@foldedunfolding words to live by right there. I always accuse myself of then just blaming my problems on other people, if I look at it that way.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@NickyLee this is why i will never be able to fully back modern day psychology..they will NEVER have the complete story
Pretzel · 70-79, M
nope.
just one bum family member
loaned money once - never paid it back and asked for more
told them nope, still hadn't paid the other back.
in a way it was a good way to get rid of them - I would have paid twice as much - they just didn't know it

@Punches mmhmm or even just driving daily to get food instead of making one trip for groceries a week.
Punches · 46-50, F
@foldedunfolding
back at her mom's place with 2 kids. the chick she is seeing is roundly disliked by everyone in our camp.
Speaking of, how come so many lesbians decide to have kids THEN decide they want to date women?
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Punches she is bi and was married to the father of her children.
eyeno · M
Definitely experienced it. Though I did get the money back it took alot of effort on my part.
When they asked again, my answer was an immediate'NO'.

@eyeno PUSH THAT CHILD TO THE GROUNDDD, NO MERCYYY
eyeno · M
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@eyeno WE ARE SPARTA!! In other news, why does this baby look like a mini version of you lol @Livingwell
Nephew calls after years and is in a desperate situation. Has no rent money, the van is in the impound, no job. So I lend him thousands. I could hear the relief over the phone, he seems grateful and communicates over the phone for a few weeks but then he ghosts me. He made the decision that it wasn't worth paying the money back. The relationship wasn't worth paying the money back. That hurt.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Pitchblue he is a TRUE idiot because he lost the ONLY person he had not yet disappointed..and someone who was superly generous to him!! i hope you BANK treasures in heaven, man. God sees.
@foldedunfolding God has not been generous so far.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Pitchblue wow that was a really loaded response lol

SW-User
Yeah, whenever I lend people money I do it knowing that not getting paid back is a strong possibility. The attitude was inappropriate though.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@SW-User thank you for saying that..yeah it really gets on my nerves.
exexec · 70-79, C
I have seldom helped anyone financially. When I have done it, I considered it a gift because I knew I would never see the money again.
exchrist · 31-35
So many times 4 different ppl owe me a total of 550$ rhey play as soon as i get paid card that day comes and goes they never pay keep showing up though begging for money and wanting to eat my food. I dont lend money anymore
exchrist · 31-35
@foldedunfolding i sort of had that but it was more made a 40$ payment toward 100 then couldnt be found for 6 months
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@exchrist one of mine was around 400 3 separate times..then 650..then poof
exchrist · 31-35
@foldedunfolding ah thats particularly impressive on their part the long game takes discipline. At least u r surviving though
exchrist · 31-35
I wonder the example set by america and our former president (ie borrow and borrow and borrow cut corners to only get out of the debt without paying or simply never paying but without consequence. Does this perpetual example inspire deliquency? Probably
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@exchrist i think capitalism, in general, plays a part as well. you remain poor to stay on welfare OR rich stay rich, while middle of the road folks hustttleeee to maintain....and we are not even afforded a cost of living increase most years.
exchrist · 31-35
@foldedunfolding spot on miss. Thats why modern countries elsewhere have a flat rate income tax and the provision of basic necessities. Like healthcare basic cable television educational costs etc.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@exchrist yes! i dont know how true this is, and have done no research on it whatsoever, so take it with a grain of salt: my friend said that america is the only place that gets tornadoes? and i was like hmm not that i think of it..have i EVER heard of a tornado in another country? earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, hurricanes yes..but tornadoes?

SW-User
Yup I had a friend do this once, I finally got the money back from her but I wouldn’t lend her money ever again. Now if someone needs any I just gift it to them then there’s no wondering when I’ll get it back.
exchrist · 31-35
@SW-User i appreciate that im actually owed close to 850 but ive settled with ppl to get anything back so. . If they come back it might be restraining order
NickyLee · 41-45
@SW-User I usually just accept that I'm not getting it back.
Other times I remind people who they are borrowing it from. Depends on my mood I guess

@NickyLee I feel you, There’s only 2 people I do that with now, my bestie (when she was leaving a bad relationship) and my daughter.

Lending money is very risky :(
Starguy · 26-30, M
Did it once and had the same experience, never lent money to anyone again since, so awkward saying no to someone in a situation like that though.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Starguy ugh sure is..and they MILK that fact dont they
Starguy · 26-30, M
@foldedunfolding I usually don't talk to them anymore out of guilt of saying no...
But! I do notice the only people who ever asked are colleagues or associates who I only just started getting close with which is weird.

foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Starguy most of the ones i have helped lately are folks i have known for years, so it really hurts to lose that friendship.
Penny · 46-50, F
never lend money youre not willing to give away or expect back lol
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Penny hell naw lol
Penny · 46-50, F
@foldedunfolding live an learn. That sucks. Its one thing if they just dont have the money but who needs the attitude you know. That would piss me off
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Penny absolutely. her rebound chick comes in my house, plops down on the sofa with a mask on, and immediately complains about the cat she knew i had coming in. didnt say thank you..didnt compliment my home..and 7 major things went wrong while they were here, to the point my friends wondered if this b had demonic attachments ha

SW-User
I don't lend money for the same reason I don't borrow it. If you don't have it, you don't need it.
Ontheroad · M
Ugh, yes! That's why I've taken the attitude that money lent is money spent.
UpsideOutInsideDown · 41-45, M
I dress and smell poor, so no one ever thinks to ask me in the first place
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@UpsideOutInsideDown people think that just bc i have a house, i have money. no..i have LESS money than i would in an apartment. do you know how much maintenance and landscaping runs?!
Punches · 46-50, F
Thing is if someone doesn't have the money now, what makes them think it will magically appear in the future?
Typically when "loaning" someone money, it is best to assume we won't see it again.

foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@Punches she had an ankle injury that messed her up..then went through a super bad break up and rebounded with an abuser..then was off her thyroid meds so she ksnt feeling good in multiple ways..and lost her id but the dmv wont replace it till november. so she is giving in to depression a lot right now.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
I once loaned someone £50 and he swore he would pay me back the very next day.
He left me his guitar worth approx £400 against the loan.
He didn't pay me back the next day so I kept the guitar. Result!

Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I learned never to lend money unless you can live with never getting it back.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
I never lend money. It is a recipe for disaster. If I offer money, it is always a gift.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
It's also known as charity. Your call.
Even if someone says they'll pay it back, I don't count on it 🤷
If they do then cool, they're good people. If not then oh well.. at least you helped em out. But they for damn sure don't have the right to give you attitude about it. If they do then they ain't a friend anymore

Punches · 46-50, F
@ChiefsArchNemesis It is not good to lend people money, it causes them to have amnesia.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
You just learned why they're in trouble to begin with.
I've rarely loaned money to anyone. When I have, it's always been a disaster. In the unusual circumstance where I do such a thing, I consider the money gone; this way, it's easier on my brain and nervous system.

foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 yeah..this time it was not a loan. it was them being immature and spoiled sigh. but yeah i do understand what you mean.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@foldedunfolding It bothers me to see good deeds go punished. It also bothers me that people don't appreciate help. But, I've learned that some people absolutely deserve to be where they are.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 yeah absofrigginlutely
Chickie · F
Yep which is why I don't give my family money anymore and if they do pay back they are slow to pay but when you need help they come up with excuses to not help.
No.
But Im guessing they're embarrassed about having to borrow in the first placeand arent sure how to react.
But maybe that's just me.

foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@V00doo yeah it just isnt cool regardless. like if you are embarrassed then get a job. one of them has found every excuse not to.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
No because I don’t lend money to people or let them stay in my home. I did let a friend stay once, never again.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@iamonfire696 yeah and honestly if you VALUE THEM, you want no contention!! i think i need to focus more on making meals, giving rides, watching kids, references for jobs..that kind of thing i guess. what do u do to support them?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@foldedunfolding Yes! Those are the things that I do.
Just things like that to help out. A babysitter is expensive so just taking their kids for a date night, go to a job interview or so they can run errands is helpful.
