when you help someone out financially

@Pretzel it's the audacity for meeee.i let these people couch surf for 3 weeks..bought them a tire when theirs blew (and didnt ask for the money back on that)..but they raised my elec bill by 400 bucks doing 14 loads of laundry a week, etc etc..long story. and then..didnt even save the money they were supposed to save being here. one says she is "too good" for mcd's, but hasnt had a job in almost a year. we are telling her yo..ppl at mcd's at least have JOBS.

@foldedunfolding it sounds like in your case that they were down on their luck - might have be covid or other circumstance beyong their control - and you were a good and decent person that kept them from being homeless.
so - I tip my hat to you for that.

as far as lending people money, there are businesses that exist for only that purpose - and they either lend it to people they think will pay them back or loan it to people that own something worthy way more than the loan.

if they can't get money from them - then probably any money you give to somebody is going to be a "gift" to them.

maybe they can't help it.

maybe they are just crap people.

but yeah, ruins your faith in people.

@Pretzel thank you..yeah temps in my area have been 110..and they were going to be living in their car. they were paying 70-80 a night for a motel room, getting paid 30-100 a day. their credit is shit, of course, maxed out.

but to have one of them not work for a year..the other a felon who works for tips..and a family of 4..like clearly that is not sustainable.

i had offered to get her a 52k a year job, but she refused it so she could take her lil girlfriend to her 17 an hour job 45 mins away. and she doesnt even get 17 an hour now.

i also got her a job at my 2nd job..the grill i was managing. she showed up for 2.5 shifts and quit..all i had asked was that she not make a fool of me, and of course she did.

then her b of a gf and she moved in for 3 weeks and her gf only had one uniform so they effing ran the washer and dryer two times every day, mostly for that single outfit. who DOES that??

@foldedunfolding well I obviously don't know them but the smoke is like drinking - that's a luxury that you spend on only after you've paid for the necessities.

hopefully they are hanging 10 on somebody else's couch.

@Pretzel the one i have known 6 years is in her early 30s, back at her mom's place with 2 kids. the chick she is seeing is roundly disliked by everyone in our camp..and my friend's mom won't let her move in

OR such room mates have like 3 or 4 packages in the mail every week, gotta put Jeff Bezos kids through college.
