Most people are living in a brave new world pleasure prison.
What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions."
In 1984, Huxley added, "people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us"

@SW-User what an amazing reply. I didn't know any of that. It's all true... pleasure is the controlled demolition of society.

You're obviously fun
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@pripyatamusementpark lol you have no idea.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
so you like pain? 🤔
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
Yikes! Pretty harsh. I’m sorry you don’t have anything that moves you enough to find joy in

@Pinkstarburst you will have pleasure when in joy, but there's no guarantee there'll be joy when in pleasure. Hence the misery of addictions, they bring pleasure but misery at the same time.
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
@S33K3R There are many sources of pleasure and joy. What brings it to some doesn’t bring them to others.
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@Pinkstarburst true, it's not my place to tell others what is right for them. Only they know, but i do know deep conversions have fallen away... now i see people excited about a video game, drinking, social media, sex, their new..... this vacation... they're so preoccupied they have zero room in their minds left to think, to wonder, to imagine, to self reflect. They replace people before they're gone... i see a lot of empty people. But that's just my view, if they're happy I'm happy for them... but i wonder if they really could be in the cycle they're stuck in.
Convivial · 26-30, F
It has its place but shouldn't be the main objective in life... More like the desert after the mains 🤗
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
Depends on the pleasure I suppose. Some people like working in the field all day. Some like reading, others love nature and the outdoors. Some just want to drink and dance be vain about their looks, their possessions. Some pleasures indicate a shallow and simple mind, a reptile mentality that knows only jungle law.
Rokan · 31-35, M
Well obviously i can't expect every second to be a dopamine rush, but i think i try to make good decisions for my life that will bring me joyous and happy memories.
Rokan · 31-35, M
@S33K3R when i was young when i felt the pulls of addiction i decided to go cold turkey. I understand the feeling, the pull, and the pain to not have it, but it doesn't matter because im always stronger i can endure and i know eventually the pull will be gone and the pain will go away.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
I study, exercise and eat good food personally for pleasure. Same when I work at my job or gossip about toxic coworker. It's a shame I'd bore you.
So people that run away from pleasure excite you?
Is that your kink?
Is that your kink?
Unlearn · 41-45, M
Bore is a weak word, I think 'drain' is more appropriate.
Madmonk · M
We can definitely be friends
Bumbles · 51-55, M
People who chase boars pleasure me.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Some people call that living.
BeepBeep · F
The downside of clout chasing
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
You would have liked my dad.
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP
Mah dopamine rush…
Ferric67 · M
You're not wrong
hiddenpearl · F
So people who only seek love have cancer in the brain?
UndeadSona · F
@hiddenpearl just like any other drug
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@hiddenpearl love leads to pleasure. There's nothing wrong with healthy joy in life. Love is healthy.
hiddenpearl · F
@S33K3R alignment is the best experience
DareToSayIT · 31-35, M
Dopamine is a big thing, but all depends what they get it from.
Some invest in cheap outlets while others get their dopamine from constructive work that reaps a lot of benefits.

mindless · M
What else do you chase?
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@mindless pay attention to desires, deny as many as you can. Whatever you want to put off for laziness don't, whatever you want don't give it to yourself. I run every morning, take a cold shower, purposely eat food i find bland. It's interesting to deny yourself. You must split into 2 in order to do so. One who wants and one who says no.

@silkydrawers is about duality, what you chase you do not have. It's about manifestation energy. It's subtle.

So I can’t go seeking my wine and chocolate at the supermarket?
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@Gingerbreadspice lol of course you can I'm not judging, it's your life. Only you can decide if you hand a healthy balance. I'm just expressing myself here. Have your chocolate, have some for me.
RSquared · 61-69, M
Really? So you're saying discipline is not your pleasure?
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@RSquared yeah pleasure comes from discipline. I'm not against pleasure when it comes from authentic sources. Even inauthentic sources in moderation. I see a lot of people spending much of their lives chasing pleasure and it's like a cancer in society. I am starting to wonder... maybe the trend of people lacking depth is partially due to this.
Fishy · 36-40, F
I mean... It is nice to do things you enjoy,
But balance is key
But balance is key
chickiegirl95 · 26-30, F
Why would you not want a pleasurable life?
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@chickiegirl95 chasing pleasure leads to misery
PoetryNEmotion · F
You hate sensualists and hedonists? Geez.
UndeadSona · F
God my cancer must be defective
SomeMichGuy · M
So then seeking pain is your thing?
It's not going to find you on it's own
That's weird

What do you think this place is ?😏
We all do it, to different dgerees and derive it from different things.
•Why do nurses become nurses ? - they enjoy the feeling if helping people.
•Why do teachers teach ?
•Why do kids play?
•why do we come here ?
Our brains are hard wired for pleasure seeking. We do it in the way we eat, the way we dress....who we choose to talk to....even how we choose to talk.
Nearly everyone has an addiction to something these days: extra time we put to pointless activities that give us pleasure, but are non productive 🤷♀
I suppose its more about if we can have a positive impact with it, than a negative one 🤔
