So I read a claim that Bragg is “stalling” Trump’s trial until January 2024

It was of course from a disreputable source, so I don’t buy it, but is it refutable? I mean, I imagine it’s just that the legal process, which neither I nor the vast majority of Americans understand, takes time, which broad ignorance Trump supporters would use to their advantage and say, “Oh yeah, likely story. How can you not see that this is a nakedly political witch hunt?”

Is there a more solid explanation?

The District Attorney (Bragg) doesn't set the schedule; the court does. Either side could have requested an earlier or later trial date (the Court does not have to comply), but neither side did. This is a money-making scheme to get "the base" to donate, so it only financially benefits their Cry-Baby hero to delay this as long as possible.
@MarkPaul Ohhh...a money making scheme? Wow...so Bragg is actually working for Trump as a double agent, and the indictment is a clever way of fund raising for Trump? That's f***ing brilliant!
🤣🤣🤣

Yup, alvin and the chipmunks in ny need more time to invent more bullschiff allegations
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues LOL, still trying to sell that bridge? You and I both know it's not a felony to pay legal bills, and 2016 was a long time ago, the statue of limitations has long expired. That bridge you are trying to sell is about three bricks shy of holding up to a gentle breeze

@sunsporter1649 Oh and Trump paying bills is a great joke. That is not a thing.

Bragg wants the trial duing the primary election season to try to hurt Trump's chances of getting the nomination
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@JPWhoo Obviously you don't know the reference. WTF?
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@HoraceGreenley I’m pretty sure I get it. Basically you’re saying I’m gullible, a rube. I’ll admit I don’t know why you chose Brooklyn in particular for the site of the bridge, unless maybe because Trump’s trial is in or at least near there.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@JPWhoo You never herad the expression about selling the Brooklyn bridge?

The delusional desire to do damage to Donald Trump and his most fervent supporters by any means necessary has led us to this bizarre moment: a real-life indictment, historically unprecedented in every respect, which as a political matter only seems to be boosting the man they claim to want to go away forever. This is an act of self-love for the #Resistance as masturbatory as it is foolish: even if everything goes their way, even if they get every legal break on a case that clearly needs it, it will not stop the former president from running, or from winning, the White House once again.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Mathers seems to be the desired outcome
@Mathers The delusion is believing you and your cult leader are above the law and pretending being held to account for breaking the law is somehow persecution.

Imagine being so sad you tie your entire self worth to a life long con man and criminal and willing to completely humiliate yourself over some bizarre devotion to a cult leader who doesn't even know you exist and would happily through you under a bus the minute you are no longer useful.
Mathers · 61-69
The delusion is believing that you can eliminate Trump by such tactics which will backfire and propel him into the White House. You are also deluded to this I’m a follower of Trump, little buddy. I can’t stand the man @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
akindheart · 61-69, F
Bragg has done what the other idiots have tried. brought Trump to court on bogus charges. he is going to stall for maximum advantage to keep him from running.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@whowasthatmaskedman and that will get him a box of chocolates. from what i am seeing online , they are flimsy charges at best. but they will manage to hang something on him.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@akindheart Sorry. Thats just not true. The charges are indeed not serious.. In that its a class E felony. But they are pretty much slam dunk on the facts..The events and players are not in dispute and Trumps records back up the claims. Brag didnt do this to lose in court.. It may not be much of a win in terms of penalty. But it will be a win for Bragg..😷
akindheart · 61-69, F
@whowasthatmaskedman we will watch it play out in court. Revenge on the part of Cohen is best served cold.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
It is a fact. Next hearing is dec 23 so it can drag through 24.
Bill1372 · 51-55, M
@MasterLee I’ve worked at all levels of government. Trust me, nothing gets accomplished in December.
Bill1372 · 51-55, M
@JPWhoo I hope you don’t actually believe that. Speedy subjective. Speedy as in relation to what time frame? I’ve seen homicides that didn’t go to trial for 5 years. Others in 2… They would consider December to be speedy
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@Bill1372 New York State law says you can get a trial in six months time. That would be October. Nothing subjective about that.
@HoraceGreenley says
Bragg wants the trial duing the primary election season to try to hurt Trump's chances of getting the nomination
DEAD WRONG!!

Bragg's case is built on his predecessor Vance's subpoenas of Trump's business records. Trump fought Vance all the way to SCOTUS, delaying all the way, before losing his last appeal and finally turning over his business records.

If Trump had wanted this case to move quickly, he would have instructed his attorneys to speed up the calendar and he would have immediately turned over the records demanded by subpoena. Heck, Trump could even have testified before Bragg's grand jury when invited to do so!

Court dates are set by the judge, not the prosecutor or defense. Either side can request calendar changes. Trump hasn't requested any speedup, and if history is any guide, Trump's future tactics, like his past tactics, will be delay delay delay.

Trump made this bed. Now he's gotta lie in it.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues LOL, 2016 was a long time ago, what took alvin and the ny chipmunks so long to file?
Trump's response to every legal case is stall stall stall. He could have gone before Bragg's grand jury and testified for himself He could tell his lawyers to ask for an accelerated calendar. But he stalls as much as he can.

In another NY case, the Trump Org is being sued, by New York Attorney General Letitia James, for $250 million for multiple business frauds. Trump Org fought tooth and nail to avoid turning over millions of pages of business documents. They stalled, appealed, stalled more, appealed more, etc etc. Now they are asking for a delay because the evidence against them is over 1 million pages. Of their own documents!

I believe Trump declared his candidacy so early so he could claim all the cases against him are political. I believe Trump wants to push each case into election season and then claim it's all political.
TexChik · F
No that's true. Jan 24, so that he can interfere with the primary season.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@TexChik You can’t judge a man’s political leanings by those of his family. Trump could still request an earlier or later date, and if the judge refused that would be another point he could use to raise money off of fools like yourself, but he didn’t.
TexChik · F
@JPWhoo spare me your lib BS .
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@TexChik Spare me your con BS.
Bill1372 · 51-55, M
The legal process is quite lengthy, however, I wouldn’t doubt for a second if they are stalling to impede his running being they are staunch democrats involved and stalling would be textbook underhanded dem play
Northwest · M
Read where? The Constitution guarantees the right to a speedy trial. So, Trump's lawyers can ask for a speedy trial if they wish.

I don't see the comments, so obviously they block me. I don't block people based on politics. I am, however, on a block list, circulated among the MAGAs on SW.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@Northwest Haha, wow, a block list that circulates? I very rarely block anyone, but when I do it’s most often because a Trump Supporter is obnoxious and makes comments that are inflammatory and lacking in substance. Consistently. But again, it’s very rare. I haven’t even taken the time to block Sunstroke yet. Well, not on this account anyway, haha.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
New York Law says a Prosecution must be ready to go to trial within six months of indictment. Thats the "speedy trial" rule. Of course, Trump id the king of delay, delay..😷
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I don’t know how long it will take, but I do know that Judges have become weary of Trump Delays, even GOP appointed Judges.
Amazing. Justice would be if Trump was charged and tried back in 2015 when the story came out -. Before he got elected.
Any story they can tell themselves to defend their cult leader.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow It’s an intuitive story though. It makes sense to most Americans because we don’t know how the legal system works. Why can’t they just have the trial tomorrow and be done with it? I bet you can’t explain that in one paragraph.
