This election was the best thing that could happen to Republicans

1) Winning back the House enables Repulicans to block Biden's catastrophic big brother legislation as well as to set some of the legislative agenda. It also allows for hearings on some of the misdeeds of the current administration.

2) When the shit hits the fan over the Biden policies the Democrats won't be able to blame a Republican congress. The Republicans were not the "dog that caught the car".

3) Trump was seriously damaged. The Trump mystique, to the extent it still existed, may now be gone. This will allow serious Republican candidates to emerge and compete using conservative ideas to bring our society back to sanity.

Happy trolling! 😋
The Republicans will waste the next two years on performative crap like abortion bans and outlawing things that don’t exist, like CRT and kitty litter boxes in elementary schools. They will also hold hearings on non-issues like Hunter’s laptop. I say bring it on, it’s the best way to ensure a Democratic sweep in 2024.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom
The difference is that if Biden or Hunter committed any crimes, I would want them punished

How are we supposed to find out when people like you keep promoting nonsense about this issue instead of supporting an investigation?

Any interest in why Jared Kushner got a multi-billion dollar loan from the Saudis?

Was it illegal? Covered up? Then yes, it should be investigated. If not, then no.

You care that Biden has walked backed his promises on being tougher on Saudi Arabia? The White House just had Bernie "lapdog" Sanders withdraw his bill to end support for the Saudi war in Yemen. You care?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom
And if you'd been paying attention, the committee did look into why the response to the riot was so inadequate. But if you fell for the lie that Nancy Pelosi refused assistance or that she was in charge of the Capitol Police, obviously the committee didn't pander to that nonsense.

Not really, they basically affirmed that she was not in charge of that, but they never did find out why the security response was so poor and lacking.
@SumKindaMunster Why should I support a witch hunt? But they will "investigate" it with or without my approval. At this point, it looks like bullshit to me, but if they find something substantive, I'll reconsider. All they have is one email saying "ten percent to the big guy" and Tony Bobulinski saying the "big guy" is Joe Biden. I'm not impressed.

Same with Kushner. If MBS gave him the loan because they're friends (apparently, they are), then no problem. If it was because Trump handed over some of the top secret documents he stole, that's different.

Maybe if the several dozen Trump acolytes who either refused to testify or took the fifth had spoken up instead, maybe we'd know why the response was so poor. Based on the available information, Trump sat on his ass watching the festivities while his daughter, Kevin McCarthy, and others begged him to intervene.
Elessar · 26-30, M
1) You're under the impression that the MAGA and the "serious Republicans", as you call them, will vote in unison. Good luck. Some people's entire political careers there are 100% about getting Trump back, won't care about anything else."RINOs" to them are no better than Dems.

2) Shit hit the fan already with Trump, if anything this only proves that so long as Trump runs, a sizable amount of Americans will go to vote even their own grandma as president if that means lowering Trump's chances to win. All the single issue voters he created won't magically disappear anytime soon. Anyone sane of mind who has seen Republicans f*cking up with crisis management won't buy the "akshually there would be no recession with us" cr#p, especially centrists radicalized under "both sides bad"

3) Trump existence as a candidate will only partition the conservative electorate. Whether he runs with the GOP or as an independent. And if he'll win the primary, well, you've already seen both in 2020 and now in 2022 what's the outcome. If he'll go to jail over the DOJ investigation, Jan 6, the Georgia case or the NY case rest assured the party that enabled him as a whole will suffer in terms of electorate loss.

@Elessar Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@irishmolly72 Seems to happen way more often than twice a day, it's since 2020 at least tht any prediction made against the GOP/Trump turns out to be accurate.

Reality must have a leftwing bias.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Elessar Wow. Two whole years.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
And so for 2 more years, nothing happens in America.. I am not taking a side here. But nothing at a time like this is the worst thing for the nation and its people...😷

@Ryderbike

You said:
you’re using the argument that anti democratic governments use.

They claim democracies are no good because it takes too long to get things done.
Authoritarian regimes can adapt in a nanosecond to changing events., economic conditions etc.

So the choice is give up on democracy or work put people in power that aren’t radical ideologues

I said:
I'll take gridlock over Mao, Pol Pot or Pinochet. How about you?

Please read my posts more carefully. Thank you.
@irishmolly72 your post is nonsense , I tried to give you some perspective. I should have known better.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Ryderbike Your efforts were nothing short of heroic.
TexChik · F
Damaging Trump was the only agenda of the left . Since it was purely propaganda they had to stay clear of the courts and create a kangaroo court where they didn’t have to worry about his civil rights or the rule of law . They are afraid of him And no lie is too big to tell in their quest to destroy him. Now he’s back and will be all over the television slamming Biden’s disastrous administration.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@TexChik I think Trump had some excellent insights and policies. Four I can think of are
1) China
2) Illegal Immigration
3) European dependency on Russian oil
4) Covid operation Warp Speed.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of Trump overall. There are other conservatives with a more coherent vision of what America is and should be about. I look forward to hearing all sides.
PatKirby · M
@TexChik

Damaging Trump was the only agenda of the left
Then they have nothing. Nothing. Except the knowledge that the only way they can win is by lying, cheating and stealing. Like the Blackfoot said 'those that lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.'

The stench of theft is still on them.
@irishmolly72 says
Time will tell what's fantasy and what's reality.
I wonder if people recognize the fantasies Trump ran on and got elected on. Remember when Trump
* Promised a tax cut that pays for itself;
* Promised to replace Obamacare with something better and cheaper that covers everyone;
* Promised a trillion dollars worth of infrastructure spending;
* Promised "We're going to see economic growth of 4, 5 & maybe 6%!";
* Promised to reduce deficit and eventually balance the budget;
* Promised he had made the world safe from Kim Jong Un's missiles;
* Promised to LOCK HER UP!
* Promised to make Mexico pay for that wall;
* Promised to release his tax returns;

All those promises turned out to be fantasies. Will republicans' failure to be realistic about or question those fantasies harm them in any way?

Update

And then there are the fantasies Trump more or less adopted, like Qanon, "deep state" and "stolen election." Do you suppose those fantasies could have a deleterious effect on future republican administrations?
@irishmolly72
Trump had Covid to deal with.
And he did a TERRIBLE job!!!

Our Covid per capita death rate all thru 2020 was DOUBLE that of countries like Canada & Germany, resulting in 550,000 deaths under Trump.

If Trump had handled Covid as well as, say, Justin Trudeau, we'd have had 275,000 FEWER DEATHS! Put another way, Trump's mis-management of Covid cost more deaths than THREE Viet Nam wars!! Three Viet Nams in a SINGLE YEAR, not spread out over ten years like the actual war!!!

Sure, Covid came from outside. And different leaders in different countries managed it differently. Trump's piss-poor Covid management is made clear by the relative per capita death rates.

"I look at it this way," Birx told CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta. "The first time, we have an excuse. There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially."

The self-described "choose life" party, sadly, sure did end up choosing a LOT of death.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@ElwoodBlues What about the "fantasy" that Europe is addicted to Russian oil and gas. Oops!
@irishmolly72 Moving the goalposts are we?? LOL!!!

Trump ran on a pile of absurd promises that I listed above. He coasted on Obama's good economy until a real problem arose - Covid. Different leaders in different countries managed Covid differently. Trump's piss-poor Covid management is made clear by the relative per capita death rates.

Those are my points. That's what I demonstrated. Feel free to create new goalposts and move them all over your field.

That woman Kary Lake should have won hadn't she associated herself much with Trump. Trump won coz some hated Hillary , just like Biden won coz people didn't want Trump in power. Once you lose fall from power & leave some bad taste, it doesn't take much time to see that intimidating influence waning out rather quickly.

irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Ryderbike Every time I effectively address your comlaints you move the goalposts. There's no limiting principle in anything left wingers do. It's so tiresome and futile.
@irishmolly72 effectively point out republican lies.

Pssst “infrastructure in 2 weeks”
@irishmolly72 He checked your link. He read it.
He reported what he found.

Have YOU read it? You react as though you've NOT done so.
1) Big brother legislation?

That was in the "PATRIOT" Act...

It will only stop some work from getting done, but the Republicans will have a slim majority, so moderate Republicans will be able to work across the aisle to show that they are some of the few who want government to *work*, rather than only being the party of "No".

2) Spending bills originate in the House, so Republicans who vote against legislation most of the country wants WILL be to blame.

Of course, what shit do you think will hit the fan?

The Republicans will make concessions to the crazies and MTG, etc., wasting taxpayer money on investigating conspiracies already shown to be baseless will definitely not boost the standing of the Republicans.

3) Yes, Trump was damaged. But the empowering of MTG, etc., will bring *back* the Republican shit show and make the country again see the dark side of this new Fascism.

Hopefully, it will destroy that party and make reasonable Republicans re-form a new conservative party which has something to sell other than hatred, anger, lies.

4) The Senate will be able to continue to confirm judges at a pace far greater than McConnell. And likely pass new rules.

IKR? Now the GOP House can fix inflation, crime and immigration. Oh, and gas prices. 🤣

BTW, Trump is still polling twice as high as de Santis, as of a couple of days ago, and at least 170 of the GOP House members are election deniers.

Proves that not all fantasies on SW are sexual.

carpediem · 61-69, M
The republicans barely took the house. And since they don’t stick together like democrats, don’t expect much. In fact, I’m prepared to be disappointed yet again at the performance ahead.

I don’t think this election damaged Trump. Quite the contrary. His record was actually pretty good and he did more for candidates than anyone else including the senate minority leader. That being said, I don’t think he’ll get the nomination for 24
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@carpediem Thanks for your thoughts.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I guarantee that no where near the democratic house members will cross the line as the many Republican house members did this last time. And that's exactly what it would take for anything to get through the house.

The house is now basically a lame duck! No democrat will cross that line. You're forgetting that republicans like Liz Chaney and many others crossed the party lines! Many still are in the new house.
I agree, stall Bidens agenda is a plus for the nation. I dont mind Trump, but im ready for someone else with similar objectives of up holding the constitution and not looking for tensions or aggressions leading to conflicts or wars in foreign relations.
PatKirby · M
@checkoutanytime

it was a ploy to garner votes, not having the authority to do so.

I'm thinking this is likely why as well. Do you expect they're getting that desperate?
@PatKirby "When Democrats are wrong, like on the border, I call them out on it," Sen. Mark Kelly - Mark Kelly Arizona D senator

The millions that crossed the border is a desperate move as well to garner votes.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@checkoutanytime Never mind the drug gang members and terrorists sprinkled in among the "undocumented".

Maybe Juarez and Chicago can be sister cities? They can have so many "cultural" exchanges. 😏
You might have a point if it wasn’t the red states that suck up the majority of the big brother legislation.
Ynotisay · M
@Ryderbike And there you go. Unfortunately, that data doesn't matter as much as feeeeelings to a whole lot of people. They're in the belief lane. Which is why they vote against their own best interests. The mind fuck of the century.

I don’t agree with you on everything but I really hope you’re right about the third point and that serious Republicans will in fact emerge again.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Harmonium1923 Thanks for not agreeing with me on every point. How boring would that be???!!!
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@irishmolly72 LOL, my point was that even as a Democrat who likes Biden more than many people, I really want to see the return of a more sane Republican party, because the country benefits from having a serious debate about serious issues like healthcare and foreign policy and taxes.
LegendofPeza · 56-60, M
Wait until Greene , Gaetz , Jordan et al start their performative bullshit in committee and see how well that goes down with the wider public in a time of war and economic crisis.
OggggO · 36-40, M
There's a lot wrong with your claims, but perhaps the only truly fatal flaw is the premise that conservatives have good ideas.

Of course, I could ask for examples of 'big brother legislation' but as I know you don't have an answer, and if you did it would be total bullshit, it's sort of a waste of time.

It's interesting to me that there's a segment of the population that ONLY wants to destroy and move backwards. They're not 'for' anything. Man. That fear they've been sold for so long digs deep. If it wasn't the for the weakest, you know?
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F

I could ask for examples of 'big brother legislation' ....

The student loan bailout. College grads will be among the wealthiest human beings in the history of humanity. Why not give them lots and lots of additional free money???

I like how your approach to this controversial topic is sprinkled with humor and spiciness that I figure is woven this way to bring out the best in competing philosophies. Such a fresh outlook is already drawing interesting responses from the gallery as well as the trolls! Looking forward to your next posts.

Good post, though I don't think the Trump image was damaged as much as you may think. Something like 93% of his midterm endorsements won their elections. Trump still has huge leads in polls for 2024. A few elections in states such as AZ, PA and GA didn't go for the Trump endorsed, and the mocking bird media starts squawking.

Edgelord:
An edgelord is a pretentious poseur on the Internet who tries to impress or shock by posting edgy opinions such as nihilism or extremist views.[4][5][6]

The term is a blend of "edgy" and "shitlord" – a person who "basks in the bitterness and misery of others".

An edgelord was a scrawny guy with a LARP-y vibe, possibly wearing a cloak, dreaming of omnipotence. Or a girl with excessive eyeliner and lots of Tumblr posts about self-harm. The disturbing content posted by edgelords was undermined by its predictability..
