My thoughts on Donald Trump.....

Former U S President Donald Trump was,in my opinion,the best President there has been for the lower and middle class since Ronald Regan.His common sense economic policies produced an unprecedented time of prosperity,his tough stance on illegal immigration was long overdue and his foreign policy made it clear that under his watch America was no longer going to be pushed around.And he was perhaps the greatest allie to Israel ever seen.He was horribly abused by his political opposition and treated with a mostly total unfairness by a dishonest media.Ill always respect the wonderful things he has done for this country,but I think there is one more thing he should do;perhaps for him the most difficult thing of all:DONT RUN FOR ANOTHER TERM.Although its for reasons that are mostly not his fault,it is clear that it would not work out.The corrupt leftists would simply continue there dishonest and illegal attempts to oust him from power,and they'd be obstructing him at every turn,with the corrput establishment media cheering them on.Also,there are significant amount of Never-Trumpers(or as I like to call them,PEOPLE-DISATTACHED-TO-REALITY)who wouldnt vote for him at all.And if one were to be honest,the fact is that the man is getting old.Unlike the senile idiot currently there,he does still possess is mind,but older is older and everyone slows down at a certain point.The best thing that Donald Trump could do is pass off the office to a younger person with the right temperament who can take his ideas into the next cycle(Ron DeSantis!)Am I right?

You are less than half correct. He was the worst buffoon in history is the part you have wrong and the part you have correct is that he should not run again. He should be in Prison where he belongs.

The numbers prove your economic claims are wrong. There are two things during the Trump admin that were economically exceptional. The first was the loss of 22,000,000 jobs during April & May of 2020. The second was Trump's $4.1 TRILLION in socialist handouts to companies and individuals during 2020. Let's compare Trump's numbers to other recent presidents:

JOB CREATION
Reagan 16.5 million
Clinton 18.6 million
Bush 5.8 million
Obama 8.9 million
Trump NEGATIVE 3 million

YEARLY DEFICIT
Reagan $79 billion to $152 billion
Clinton lowered our deficit from 255 billion to a $126 billion SURPLUS in 2001
Bush raised deficit from 0 to 1412 billion
Obama lowered deficit from 1412 billion to 585 billion
Trump raised from 585 billion up to ~4000 billion

DJIA
Jan 20 1981, Reagan takes office 946;
Jan 20 1989, Reagan leaves office 2235;
Up 136% or 11.3% growth per year.
Jan 20 1993, Clinton takes office 3242;
Jan 20 2001, Clinton leaves office 10588;
up 227%, or 15.92% growth per year.
Jan 20 2001, Bush takes office 10588;
Jan 20 2009, Bush leaves office 7949;
NEGATIVE 3.5% per year.
Jan 20 2009, Obama takes office 7949;
Jan 20 2017, Obama leaves office 19827;
up almost 150% over 8 years, or 12.1% per year (1.121^8=2.49).
Jan 20 2017, Trump takes office 19827;
Jan 20 2021, Trump leaves office 30,930;
up 56% over 4 years, or 11.76% growth per year.

[sep][sep]UPDATE[sep][sep]
Long term, how do the parties compare??
From 1952 through June 2020, annualized real stock market returns under Democrats have been 10.6% compared with 4.8% for Republicans.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/sergeiklebnikov/2020/07/23/historical-stock-market-returns-under-every-us-president/#51469926faaf

That's right, if long term economic growth is your goal, Democratic presidents are doing this FAR better than Republicans.
@akindheart really? How much did Clinton borrow? Was it more than his $126 billion budget surplus?

BTW, I'm not "deflecting," I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of singling out Clinton for blame for borrowing from the SS trust fund. After all, St Ronald of Reagan set the pattern.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@ElwoodBlues i will have to research the amount since it was so long ago. I know that he was bragging he balanced the budget but in reality he stole the money and never paid it back. and stop the name calling btw. it does not serve you.
@akindheart
but in reality he stole the money and never paid it back
You chose to use the word "stole." Are you insinuating Clinton did something illegal? Are you insinuating he took the money for personal use?? Are you insinuating Clinton did anything different than Reagan & both Bushes? BTW, while you're researching, make sure you check out which years the SS borrowing happened, because most of a president's first year is on the budget passed by the previous president.

[sep][sep] UPDATE [sep][sep]
Alas alack! @akindheart chose to BLOCK me instead of answering my questions. SAD!!!

Trump is not a friend to Israel. No wonder he resoundingly lost the Jewish vote. Leading down the road to apartheid instead of democracy.
@GrinNude I wouldn't compare the Palestinians to the ANC. Mandela was one of the great leaders of the modern era. Yasser Arafat was just a corrupt POS who may have stolen as much as a billion dollars from his own people. Mahmoud Abbas and the psychos in charge of Hamas (who don't even live there) aren't much better. It's not entirely the fault of the Palestinians that they were cursed with shitty leadership, but it hasn't helped them either.

Until they give up their goal of pushing the Jews into the sea, the current situation will continue.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@LeopoldBloom Avi Gil argues, "Under the shield of stalemate in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, settlement activity continues steadily and gnaws away at the possibility of dividing the land between the two peoples, which would sustain the Jewish character of Israel. The threat is suppressed and pushed from the public discourse. In the election campaign already upon us, the leading candidates will not volunteer to explain how they intend to deal with the most significant calamity Israel faces: the loss of its essence as a Jewish state."
@pdqsailor1 Jimmy Carter helped broker the deal making peace between Israel & Egypt.

He's not an anti-Semite.

Thanks for allowing me to weight your input on Israeli matters at 0.

Don't think that any other Republican will get a pass from the left. Marxists have already started on Desantis as they recognize he is a threat to their election chances in'24. Leftists must think voters are totally stupid when in every election they call Republicans racist, homophobic. xenophobic and any other phobia one can think of. There are plenty of stupid voters, many contribute here, but I'm guessing they'll be in the minority in '22 and'24.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Strictgram I think things are getting so bad that even the stupid/deluded voters are starting to see through it.And as much as I appreciated Trump,I still say that Ron Destantis is the best candidate.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Strictgram And youre right.If he runs and wins,Destantis will be the NEW evil and EVEN WORSE THAN TRUMP!!😉
@Strictgram Voters are also tired of ignorant loudmouths like you calling everyone to the left of Barry Goldwater a “Marxist.” It’s become meaningless and now you don’t even have a word for a real Marxist if one ever shows up.
Yeah he was the best................to 32% of the people in his cult. Not so much to the other 68% of Amerians...the world....the 150 legal scholars, Constitutional lawyers and historians that rate presidents. They have him comfortably in the history books already as the very worst this country has ever seen in the last 150 years and third from the bottom of the worst of the worst in the last 230 years. Crazy how the ones that worship him never noticed that.

So.............not........not exactly right.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@anythingoes477 Again, your comments ilustrate how difficult it is to make this kind of judgment. Obama’s healthcare legislation was welcomed by many, opposed by some. Not being American, I do not understand the arguments and have no opinion on the matter. All one can say objectively is that both Obama and Trump tried to do what they said they would do. You support the “Iran Nuke Deal”. I think it was probably the worst mistake of Obama’s presidency (there were others) and Trump was absolutely right to revoke it. A historian would say we won’t be able to make a firm judgment on that for 20 years, perhaps not even then. But in trying to assess the quality and effectiveness of a president, one has to try and put aside one’s own opinions and prejudices, and assess what has happened according to the president’s own objectives and the outcomes he achieves.
@MartinII As you said...you did not live here day by day for 4 years waiting for something to happen to back what became just one more lie. Dozens and dozens of crude, viscious tweets everyday. A string of whores being paid off. Kids stealing tax money wages to do nothing but profit the family business and travel and be "important". What u think and what we lived with ate polar opposite

No.

But at your age, you have not yet had your frontal cortex--the part of your brain which makes good decisions--finish forming. As a result, you seem to be simply echoing things others have said.

Trump was a train-wreck, and that's been well-documented, and your misunderstanding of foreign policy is...vast.

He tried to extract America from the various systems put in place after WWII, and his antics made us an international laughingstock. He emboldened the North Korean Communist dictator, the Russian autocrat trying to revive the Russian/Soviet empire, the strong man of Syria, the leaders of Iran... By withdrawing, he created opportunities for China & Russia to oppose us. He showed others that the US can't be trusted (via his treatment of the Kurds).
@DavidT8899
The lowest unemployment, strong jobs growth, other countries not laughing at us...yeah, a train wreck.

Trump had a dismal last year.

Oh, the pandemic, you say? Trump mismanaged our handling of it. Biden et al. tried to dig us out of the hole, here, but Trump's admitted lying about the severity, suggesting bullshit "treatments", and NOT getting a vaccine first, publicly, loudly, and asking his supporters to do so...that helped kill hundreds of thousands of Americans needlessly.

So if "the pandemic" is a good excuse for Trump, it has to be fine for Biden...who can't control what OTHER countries do, and a *global* supply chain means we are at the mercy of what happens elsewhere (healthwise [China continues to have shutdowns due to CoViD], military-wise [Russia-Ukraine], etc.)...and he doesn't control the price of oil, which is set by commodities markets, OPEC...

Inflation was an inevitable consequence of what was happening (too little supply for the surge of people buying again), but firms [such as Abbott labs, which seems to have done nothing to reopen its infant formula plant here in Mich after having a shutdown due to a health problem] and industries [the US oil companies shut down the capacity to process 700 - 800 kbarrels of petroleum per day, and they are sitting on leases rather than producing product].
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@DavidT8899 It is true, brains don't really finish growing up until 25. You need to keep an open mind until then.
@FlowersNButterflies ...and beyond! 😉😊
DeSantis is hot now because he got an early start and no one is criticizing him. That will change if Trump doesn’t run, it will be a free for all and he will be raked over the coals by Cruz, Hawley, Pompeo and the others who aren’t going to sit back and let Ron have the nomination without a fight. DeSantis has no charisma and his philosophy of governing is to take the latest OAN headline and propose a law. Hilariously, the Florida constitution guarantees a right to abortion, and you can bet the other Republicans will blame Ron for allowing that.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@LeopoldBloom Not as much,I suspect,as the Democrats will if they anoint Gavin Newsom.
@DavidT8899 If Biden doesn't run and Harris is edged out, it's going to be a free for all, and Newsom isn't going to be "anointed." But you're probably correct in that just as DeSantis doesn't have appeal outside the South, Newsom doesn't have appeal east of the Rockies.

The interest in DeSantis reminds me of 2016 when everyone thought Jeb Bush would be the GOP nominee.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@LeopoldBloom Mmm, I'd disagree. I think each prospective candidate's heat trail is brightest when nearest them, but talk of Newsome is reaching Florida and has been for some time. DeSantis will be a darling nationally because self-serving pandering in the guise of "loving America" always plays well.

@swirlie If you remember the New York Times'-sponsored review of his financials, the conclusion was that the ONLY business which

• Trump had run
AND
• had made money

was Trump Tower. (Another Manhattan project made money, but he was a silent partner, not allowed to run it; smart partners!).

That's why he has massive bills coming due.
