My thoughts on Donald Trump.....

Former U S President Donald Trump was,in my opinion, the best President there has been for the lower and middle class since Ronald Regan. His common sense economic policies produced an unprecedented time of prosperity, his tough stance on illegal immigration was long overdue and his foreign policy made it clear that under his watch America was no longer going to be pushed around. And he was perhaps the greatest allie to Israel ever seen.He was horribly abused by his political opposition and treated with a mostly total unfairness by a dishonest media.Ill always respect the wonderful things he has done for this country, but I think there is one more thing he should do;perhaps for him the most difficult thing of all:DONT RUN FOR ANOTHER TERM.Although its for reasons that are mostly not his fault,it is clear that it would not work out.The corrupt leftists would simply continue there dishonest and illegal attempts to oust him from power, and they'd be obstructing him at every turn, with the corrput establishment media cheering them on.Also, there are significant amount of Never-Trumpers(or as I like to call them,PEOPLE-DISATTACHED-TO-REALITY)who wouldnt vote for him at all.And if one were to be honest, the fact is that the man is getting old.Unlike the senile idiot currently there,he does still possess is mind, but older is older and everyone slows down at a certain point. The best thing that Donald Trump could do is pass off the office to a younger person with the right temperament who can take his ideas into the next cycle(Ron DeSantis!)Am I right?

DeSantis is hot now because he got an early start and no one is criticizing him. That will change if Trump doesn’t run, it will be a free for all and he will be raked over the coals by Cruz, Hawley, Pompeo and the others who aren’t going to sit back and let Ron have the nomination without a fight. DeSantis has no charisma and his philosophy of governing is to take the latest OAN headline and propose a law. Hilariously, the Florida constitution guarantees a right to abortion, and you can bet the other Republicans will blame Ron for allowing that.

@LeopoldBloom I think you vastly underappreciate his appeal. This is the new Gilead, and he's the perfect leader. Smart enough to pander but insightful enough to know (almost) when to back away; he's a snake oil salesman who hides his truly deficient intellect behind an entitled degree and disapproving scowls.

But people right now are tired, confused, feel beaten down, and they have had enough. Trump has become more trouble than he's worth and is performing badly in polls matching to two up. And if they levy charges, Trump won't even be able to run.

Cruz is a a living cartoon of a childish buffoon who moonlights as village idiot. Hawley has perfected hateful and racist with no glimmer of humanity or likability. As for Gaetz, MTG, Boebert and the lot, we should at minimum have a president who can spell at grade 7 level.

Don't underestimate DeSantis: he has a clear and stark philosophy of governing and it's the authoritarian state, which is underway right now, right here. And while our Constitution does use this clause - “Every natural person has the right to be let alone and free from governmental intrusion into the person’s private life except as otherwise provided herein” - to allow abortion, a court fight, restrictions and constant angst by having every major state law overturned in real time by DeSantis and his henchmen has its effects. We're like a knee joint grinding bone on bone right now.

Trump has ZERO charisma and look how far he dragged into the pit.
@Graylight Here's the problem. DeSantis has zero charisma. Say what you will about Trump, he's very charismatic, at least to his base. He has negative charisma for everyone else. Trump engenders either adulation or hatred.

The reason conservatives are getting all googoo eyed over Ron is because he's the only alternative out there right now and they know virtually nothing else about him. Cruz and Hawley aren't appealing either, but once they start attacking DeSantis, it's over for him.

@LeopoldBloom Trump's unbridled lunacy isn't the benchmark by which I'm measuring charisma.

What DeSantis does have is an air or confidence - arrogance - and the persona of an educated, bullish leader who "isn't going to take it from government" even though that's his career choice. Floridians like to believe they've got someone smart in charge and they'll follow the easiest target. If we've proven anything over the last 6 years, it's that other Americans fall for that, too.

I think Trump's too hot right now. Possible criminal charges, leadership in an insurrection, various state and federal investigations underway, and his mouth. Nobody with any real clout is going to back that horse. I wouldn't be the least surprised if McConnell is already holding meetings with DeSantis.
@Graylight If the Republicans anoint DeSantis now, they'll regret it.

@LeopoldBloom Not as much,I suspect,as the Democrats will if they anoint Gavin Newsom.
@DavidT8899 If Biden doesn't run and Harris is edged out, it's going to be a free for all, and Newsom isn't going to be "anointed." But you're probably correct in that just as DeSantis doesn't have appeal outside the South, Newsom doesn't have appeal east of the Rockies.

The interest in DeSantis reminds me of 2016 when everyone thought Jeb Bush would be the GOP nominee.

@LeopoldBloom Mmm, I'd disagree. I think each prospective candidate's heat trail is brightest when nearest them, but talk of Newsome is reaching Florida and has been for some time. DeSantis will be a darling nationally because self-serving pandering in the guise of "loving America" always plays well.
