My thoughts on Donald Trump.....

Former U S President Donald Trump was,in my opinion, the best President there has been for the lower and middle class since Ronald Regan. His common sense economic policies produced an unprecedented time of prosperity, his tough stance on illegal immigration was long overdue and his foreign policy made it clear that under his watch America was no longer going to be pushed around. And he was perhaps the greatest allie to Israel ever seen.He was horribly abused by his political opposition and treated with a mostly total unfairness by a dishonest media.Ill always respect the wonderful things he has done for this country, but I think there is one more thing he should do;perhaps for him the most difficult thing of all:DONT RUN FOR ANOTHER TERM.Although its for reasons that are mostly not his fault,it is clear that it would not work out.The corrupt leftists would simply continue there dishonest and illegal attempts to oust him from power, and they'd be obstructing him at every turn, with the corrput establishment media cheering them on.Also, there are significant amount of Never-Trumpers(or as I like to call them,PEOPLE-DISATTACHED-TO-REALITY)who wouldnt vote for him at all.And if one were to be honest, the fact is that the man is getting old.Unlike the senile idiot currently there,he does still possess is mind, but older is older and everyone slows down at a certain point. The best thing that Donald Trump could do is pass off the office to a younger person with the right temperament who can take his ideas into the next cycle(Ron DeSantis!)Am I right?

Yeah he was the best................to 32% of the people in his cult. Not so much to the other 68% of Amerians...the world....the 150 legal scholars, Constitutional lawyers and historians that rate presidents. They have him comfortably in the history books already as the very worst this country has ever seen in the last 150 years and third from the bottom of the worst of the worst in the last 230 years. Crazy how the ones that worship him never noticed that.

So.............not........not exactly right.

@anythingoes477 No reputable historian would make a categorical on Trump’s, or anyone else’s, presidency so soon after it ended.
@MartinII You couldn't possibly be any more wrong. The artivcle about his ranking was released on June 22, 2022. So the decision was rendered on trump prior to June 22nd. Look at the date on this news release. You can't possibly imagine that the panel of those that rated him started flatfooted on Jan. 20th. Like they have never ever heard of him until then? As everything is done presidentially a record of kept of it for the archives..........unless a stooge burns it, destroys it.......or it gets unlawfully stolen from the White House and taken to Florida to be destroyed there. But even at that........enough is known about his actions, lack of actions, ineptness, lack of Constitutional understanding, conduct in office, decision making capabilities, poor leadership qualities, lack of accomplishments........loooong before Jan 20th.

@anythingoes477 I think you are missing the point. No-one can make a historical judgement when the outcomes of many of Trump’s policies, and of the reversal of some of them by his successor, are unknown. The list you quote is, except for the last item, a list of personal qualities and behaviours. Those things are important, but only part of the story. To make a full assessment, a historian needs to know about successes and failures. Think of some precedents. Jimmy Carter was a good man but a weak and ineffective President. Richard Nixon was a bad man, but his record as President was mixed. In both cases, their record was easier to assess some time after they had ceased to be President.

Of course, anyone can express an opinion contemporaneously or immediately after the event. I suspect you are only interested in opinions that agree with your own. A historian, while he may of course express opinions too, will be wise to reserve definitive judgment.
@MartinII When you rank the worst in 150 years and third from the bottom of the worst of the worst in 240 years.............what policies? The only legacy trump left was one piece of legislation........a bill to make the rich even more wildly rich....while damaging the economy until that is repealed. That bill is resulting in the loss of billions of dollars in tax revenue per year from our national treasury..........and tarrifs....by Executive Order.

Past that he passed nothing else major. His policies of ending Iran's nuke deal...just got Ukraine kicked in the ass as Iran is now sending Russia all the guided missiles they can to fight against our efforts to help Ukraine win that war. The Climate Change Summit he took us out of is reversed already. NATO is no longer in danger of us pulling out of that...to hurt our allies. Pat that............what policies????
@MartinII And you are correct rankings can change with time. Obama was moved up from 12th place to 10th.....for instance. So trump could come up...........or further down. But even if we wait another 240 years and trump climbed a dozen spots up.........he'd still be in the bottom 15 presidents as the worst we have ever had.

@anythingoes477 Your comments seem to confirm that you are not really interested in an historical assessment of Trump’s presidency, you simply disagree with his policies - which of course is fair enough.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@anythingoes477 That rather reinforces my scepticism about the rankings. As a historian, I find it difficult to see how Obama can be ranked as high as 10th, or even 12th, based on his achievements, or lack of them. But it’s early days, and he was a nice and reasonably competent man.
@MartinII His "historical assessment" is above my pay grade. Whether I agree or not is moot. It is what 150 panelists say it is. I believe that of this 150.........90 are the same that has rated every prez since Bush Sr. So I don't see the bias. The criteria is the same prez to prez.

And again.........refresh me...........what policies?
@MartinII Largely........making healthcare available to some 113 million people that were not covered before I imagine played heavily into that. By comparision........trump made it his project to take that healthcare back from them. Climate accord.........which trump undid. The Iran Nuke Deal.........that trump undid. On Obama's watch Bin Laden was killed. On trump's Duarte, Kim,Putin.....every major dictator on earth weas held us as a hero and person to be admired most. Refusal to concede the election.......attempt to discredit our entire democratic process with his big lie.........not done by Obama. When you make the Comparisions of how bad someone is compared to all others...cult loyalty opinions takes a far, far backseat to actual facts and accomplishments.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@anythingoes477 Again, your comments ilustrate how difficult it is to make this kind of judgment. Obama’s healthcare legislation was welcomed by many, opposed by some. Not being American, I do not understand the arguments and have no opinion on the matter. All one can say objectively is that both Obama and Trump tried to do what they said they would do. You support the “Iran Nuke Deal”. I think it was probably the worst mistake of Obama’s presidency (there were others) and Trump was absolutely right to revoke it. A historian would say we won’t be able to make a firm judgment on that for 20 years, perhaps not even then. But in trying to assess the quality and effectiveness of a president, one has to try and put aside one’s own opinions and prejudices, and assess what has happened according to the president’s own objectives and the outcomes he achieves.
@MartinII As you said...you did not live here day by day for 4 years waiting for something to happen to back what became just one more lie. Dozens and dozens of crude, viscious tweets everyday. A string of whores being paid off. Kids stealing tax money wages to do nothing but profit the family business and travel and be "important". What u think and what we lived with ate polar opposite
