Australia changed it's government yesterday.

Australia had an election yesterday and kicked out the conservative government. It was so boring. There were no riots, no insurrection and almost everyone voted. The outgoing prime Minister gave a dignified speech conceding defeat and the new one gave a gracious speech accepting the position.
So dull... 😉
Gusman · 61-69, M
Very little will change for the average Australian.
Cheaper child care? How will that be achieved? Subsidised? Those that run the centres will continue to raise the cost.
Let's see how long it takes to "Create 50 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics".
What is required is more hospitals.
Remember Albanese has stated he is going to give five hundred million dollars to the Solomon Islands. 😡
Fee Free TAFE will target the skills gap in critical workforces.
There will be 465,000 fee-free TAFE places for Australian students studying in industries with a skills shortage, including 45,000 new places.
Up to 20,000 extra university places making it easier for Australians to find a spot at university and get a job.
I am sure the majority of these positions will go to overseas students.

A Labor Government will provide up to $15 billion of capital to invest in job-creating projects .
I will not be holding my breathe waiting for this to happen.
Let's see if a National Anti-Corruption Commission with teeth will be established

These things are sure.
Nursing home residents will still be treated appallingly.
House prices and rentals will still rise
Homelessness will still rise.
The welfare rate will not rise.
Immigration will not fall
Aboriginal deaths in custody will not fall
@walabby you could always roll your own riot. Lol

@Gusman Some elections arent about creating Paradise on earth. This one was just about getting rid of the old Government. Can you imagine how insufferable they would have been if we had rewarded their performance for the past 3 years?😷
@Gusman The Juice Media does a pretty good job of it though.
You mean nobody claimed fraud, demanded recounts or refused to leave office ? 🤭
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Amazing! No horde of Duck Dynasty rejects swarming parliament?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard No, but the losers are complaining that Labor didn't get the majority of votes. But that's our system and they'd be claiming the victory if it was them.
walabby · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard One of the Right wing crazies is saying something about voter fraud, but he is just sour that he got almost no votes at all..

Koalas, kangaroos, AND sanity?

Packing my bags to move there!!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SW-User Then really your only reason to move is that you are currently too close to America and its freezing. I can see that..😷
Peaches · F
@SW-User We'll go together! 😊
Peaches · F
@Crazywaterspring Oh yeah....that is an important question before I think of moving there.🤔
Amicus · 56-60, F
As an American, I am so jealous.
@Amicus don’t be.. it was out of the fat into the fire.. labor is the epitome of the green new deal
Peaches · F
That's so wonderful! I'm jealous, 😔 I wish I lived in Australia where it's a lot more peaceful. My sister had a boyfriend from there, he took her over for a visit many years ago. She brought me back a little fuzzy koala bear, it wasn't a real one. 😊
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Peaches Its not like Australia is a perfect place to live..We have things to complain about and we do.. Just when we complain the government listens or gets thrown out. And in this case both sides have been put on notice. And sadly most of those fuzzy koalas are made in China. My son was lucky enough to have a school "camp" in Nanjing while in secondary school and like all the kids we looked out souveniers for him to present as gifts. I thought it really tasteless to send back things made there , so ended up with some local bears, made of (of all things ) Kangaroos skin. Koalas are of course protected. Kangaroos are pet food.😷
Adstar · 56-60, M
It matters not a jot what Government runs Australia.. The supposed ""conservatives"" as you called them where the most economically leftist leaning ""conservatives"" you would ever experience and the new party in power will be subject the the current international situation.. So it matters not a jot where they are on the political spectrum.. Their ability to make policies will be determined by the world thats going to hell.. All their promises are just that political promises, Not worth the speech papers they where written on...
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Adstar Re read my previous comment, slowly.

@Adstar It isn't, it's a simple matter of fact. Had you ever seen an actual leftist, you wouldn't be thinking of ScoMo lmao

Still better than the last d dump hitler putten etc dictator all in one @TheOneyouwerewarnedabout
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
So now liberals get to gloat and conservatives get to complain ?
Sounds just like our elections. Lol
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@walabby now you’re just pulling my leg .
I suppose you also let men enter and win womens longboarding surf contests too .
Ow wait. ….🤣
walabby · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt Dunno about that one but anything is possible in the land of Oz..
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@walabby it literally just happened . A trans surfer won the womens national longboard title .
I know this bc I’m a surfer, not bc I’m trans. Lol
Labor wins but nobody voted for them.. I knew the lead pencils were dodgy as f**k..

Just like Trudeau and macron..

The worlds a WEF joke
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Yes.. And again the rightwing lunatic fringe was marginalized, in spite of us being the the most locked down nation in the free world. None of your storming the bastille and screaming about guns and freedom. In fairness Bob Katar did scream about guns, freedom, and a lot of other crap. But thats Bob. No one takes him seriously.😷
Nanoose · 61-69, M
Well that is the way a election should be. Cheers!
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Voting is mandatory here. But at least we have 6 or more candidates. No one really knows about the others, That's the way the 2 big political parties like it. But you still get to vote 1 to 6 on who you want in.
The only reason Labour got in is cause we know their name and think their less shit then the last one.
We need dull here!
walabby · 70-79, M
@SomeMichGuy Jan 6th hearings are livening things up over there?
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
So as soon as our Yank conservatives get back from being courted by Hungary's dictator, er, president, we'll send them down to teach y'all how to do things properly.

@dancingtongue they hate Orban cuz he won’t play ball .
Slade · 56-60, M
@dancingtongue Yawn. Fill another pitcher of Kool-aide
spjennifer · 61-69, T
So no more "Scummo", what's the nickname for the new guy? 😃
walabby · 70-79, M
@spjennifer ScoMo wasn't actually bad, but he wasn't great. Even a lot of voters that support his party didn't like him much. It's time for a change ...
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@walabby Sadly the "Liberal" Party has become anything but liberal. Its moved to the right and narrowed its focus to exclude the centre. I was certainly a "Menzies" liberal. I would now be classed as a teal. Simply because I want everyone to have the advantages I did. I expect Dutton to take the party to the Right along with Tudge, Taylor and the Nationals, and I am happy for them to wander in the wilderness for a decade or two. I really expect the teals to morph into a centerist party that will emerge.. But thats likely to take a decade.😷
walabby · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I'm pretty much with you. The Libs have lost their direction and will need time to sort themselves out.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
It must be nice not having a sore loser spoil the peaceful transition of power.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@Slade Yes, it sure did suck. But not quite as bad as treason, sedition and insurrection.
Slade · 56-60, M
@GrinNude if there ever was any of that it'd sure suck
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@Slade Yes, it certainly does.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I don't think you really understand what happened. But, thanks for looking on the superficial side.

Remember the discussion
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@GypsyKiss The lead singer decided he was the smartest man in the room and went into politics based on his fame. First as a failed Green. Then as a failed Labor Senator. Now hes back in the band....😷
GypsyKiss · 31-35
@whowasthatmaskedman There is a message in that song though on multiple levels. Just because people didn't like his style or didn't maybe get the message doesn't make him a failure.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@GypsyKiss While not a fan of his style, I did get the bands message and support it. My point involved something called "The Peter Principle" Broadly speaking it says that all things being equal, you keep getting promoted until you reach a level where you cant do the job and you are stuck there. So given enough time and places, every position is filled with someone incompetent..😷
Yulianna · 22-25, F
is that something to do with democracy?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Yulianna Yes. There seems to be a minor outbreak of it. Some independents got in without being on the hard left or hard right. And a rather mediocre mann from a poor family is now the nations Leader..😷

@1234cardiff Literally. You're responding to a post from a year and a half ago.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@VeronicaJane boring perhaps, but civilised🤗
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
That kind of behaviour is so 2016.
As it should be....
RedBaron · M
Actually, Australia changed ITS, not IT IS, government.
walabby · 70-79, M
@RedBaron I did look at that. I thought maybe that the government might have belonged to "it", and the apostrophe would be there as a possessive?
RedBaron · M
@walabby It is a rare word that does not take the apostrophe in possessive form. ITS is the possessive form.

Trade us politicians?
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire Keep that Pauline Hanson. We have an entire party devoted to turning back the calendar.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@walabby You can have Moscow Mitch McConnell, Madison Cawthorne, and all the other MAGAts.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@walabby I'd through in Dutton, too.
