I was going to say the same thing!!!! The best movie I seen was Contact with Jodi Foster and Matthew McConaughey! I loved all aspects of the movie, the science, the romance, the fantasy, the insanity, the trillions of dollars it took to create the space age contraption, why not build one when you can build two!!! Fact checking, the beauty, the good the bad and the ugly! It's a movie that has everything a sci fi could ask for!!! Good one! I actually did my English 30 diploma essay based on that movie!

War of the worlds scared me when it came out in the sixties, then Failsafe and Dr. Strangelove made us love the bomb. 2001 A Space Odyssey was really advanced when it came out in '68 and had the theaters full all summer. Slaughterhouse 5 was just weird. A Clockwork Orange was cool. Then Star Wars blew everything out of the water when it came out. Then in '79 Joy and I went to a little known movie called Alien and got freaked out. Then that summer of 81 at the drive in movie was Heavy Metal.

A couple years later was the much anticipated first Star Trek movie and the Scifi romance movie Starman. E.T. was very popular and fun as was Flight of the Navigator. Jodi Foster in Contact made us think as did Blade Runner. Interstellar had stirring music and a tesseract. For me, the movie so far with the best lines, music, story, and acting....Blade Runner.

The blob, old and new were also pretty good.

Difficult one! But one that sticks in my mind is 'Time After Time', loosely based on the time-travel theme as explored by H G Wells. I saw it in France when it came out (1979). The title in French was c'était demain ('it was tomorrow'), which is almost better than the English one!

There's so many!
First Two 'Star Wars' - 'A New Hope' and 'Empire..' - are unsurpassable, I think.
'The Hunger Games' Trilogy (In 4 Parts, but now with the prequel..) are probably my favourite ever.
Danny Boyle's 'Sunshine' is wonderful, as is 'Bladerunner'.

It's a toss up for me between Star Wars, now known as Episode IV (A New Hope), and The Matrix.
I saw Star Wars back in the theater when I was 13. I had never seen anything like it. It was so new and exciting, a truly great film.
The Matrix too was quite revolutionary for the genre with its themes and the cinematography and bullet time effects.
So many good ones out there, along with quite a few stinkers, lol.

The 1951 version of The Day the Earth Stood Still ... or maybe the 1953 version of War of the Worlds
HumanEarth · F
@justbob That's my choice as well
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
@justbob War of the Worlds scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. I couldn't have been anymore than 6 or 7, and I remember watching late at night at my grandparents house for the first time. I don't sleep I slept for a couple of weeks after that.

That's a tough one -- I think a lot depends on what mood I'm in. The one I can re-watch most often is probably THE FIFTH ELEMENT.
