Does anyone on this site drink olive oil?

About the size of a shot glass a day, I'm talking about. I've seen a few things on line about people extolling its hair-enriching, skin glowing, weight reducing properties. Is there any truth in any of their claims? If so, why haven't we heard them before?

Yeah. But I don't drink olive oil by itself. I only take a little bit in a very small way and you mix with a really good flavored balsamic vinegar and mix it, then take a sip. It's a really good taste together and can make you feel happy on the taste buds lol.

It's kind of the same as those fancy olive oil stores that you can taste different combinations of olive oils and vinegar together as a sample before buying.

But I noticed that it puts you in a good mood because the taste is very tangy or savory with a kick due to the vinegar so tastes good 😊

Olive oil does have benefits but only if you're on specific diets. I couldn't see the standard American diet as being good but if you were doing either Paleo, Mediterranean or keto diets that might be good for your heart who knows.

@SatanBurger the DASH diet recommends it too. It's the most recommended diet to control hypertension.

@basilfawlty89 I heard about the DASH diet, I would love to try it. I think there's benefits to olive oil for sure, I've read on them from medical sources.

I just would take maybe a very small sip of a shot as I noticed that the combination of a really good olive oil and good flavored vinegar does something for my mood rather than health. It does taste good if you're craving something tangy but don't want a dessert as you're trying not to eat a candy bar lol.

@SatanBurger I'm on it, because I have hypertension. I used to have full blown metabolic syndrome, but since losing weight and getting my blood pressure in order, most of the symptoms have subsided. Even my insulin resistance which is genetic is mostly gone.

Read a story online recently. A guy did that before going to a bar and diarrhoed himself. Don't know if it's true...

Seems far-fetched but what is loosely called the "Mediterranean Diet" is very healthy partly, but not only, by using olive oil among its many and varied ingredients.

Whether it would have those properties you quote, I have no idea but suggest the whole diet is what counts, not simply drinking olive-oil.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@ArishMell oh yeah this wasn't the link but it's another person they comes close to what I was saying, apparently traditional Mediterranean dieting uses at least two cups Oliver oil per day.

@SatanBurger That's a heck of a lot of oil! I wonder how many servings those are for, and how much of that total anyone actually eats.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@ArishMell The link says around two cups every day plus they take shots. The olive oil over there is fresh
I don’t, but for while would take a teaspoon or so of it.

As it happens, I use so much olive oil in cooking and salads every day I don’t feel the need :)

There's some benefits as far a healthy fats but it's supposed to be about a teaspoon or two a day. There's a lot of real research out there on it. I might take a second to look in to the science in lieu of what 'people' are saying.
I would switch to liquid omega 3 with dha and epa. The health benefits are superior to that of olive oil. You just take one teaspoon of it a day and you get your daily intake of omega 3. Good for high blood pressure, it’s anti inflammatory and dha is good for the brain. Their is a list of the many benefits. As for weight loss their is no magic supplement for that it’s all a gimmick, it will only enhance your efforts to lose weight but losing weight is all about the calories you consume and the calories you burn.

Not a glass
But yeah a tablespoon is very beneficial.

Certainly help if you are burdened with constipation
I take a tablespoon full with slivers of fresh garlic.

In Africa they dip flat bread in olive oil. The thing is there is a lot of fake olive oil. Frying in sesame oil or clear butter would be better.
@Khenpal1 I get you about the cooking part but I was specifically asking about drinking a shot of olive oil.
Khenpal1 · M
@autumngirl27 I guess a tea spoon will do if genuine top quality, but is not the best nor the healthiest way to consume olive oil. Benefits of olive oil do not come in isolation. One of the most important reasons to consume olive oil in food rather than drinking a shot of it is due to the positive interactions it has when you add it to food.
emiliya · 22-25, F
My parents grew olives in Spain, we would always have our own olive oil…a plentiful supply. I have never drank it, but I use it for cooking and to dip bread in.
SeaGlass · F
I would eat that much on food in a day. Drinking a shot of olive oil seems a waste of good food enhancement.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I take a tablespoon every day. It makes my stomach and my bowels feel better.
Rokan · 31-35, M
Being in a calorie deficite is how i go about obtainin weight loss qualities.
Jimbo7 · M
I frie everything in olive oil, I have never drank any yet
Tracos · 51-55, M
I cook with it? Does that count too?
@Tracos This is, like I said before, like a shot. I can't imagine drinking it, to be honest. I do know someone who makes salads with olive oil and red wine vinegar, and when tthe oil and vinegar have mixed together at the bottom of the bowl and the salad's been eaten, he dips bread rolls in it and eats it that way.
Ynotisay · M
@Tracos It does and it's actually better than drinking it raw because it interacts with the nutrients in the food.

samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Only if you include that in my food.
Throughout the day, probably.

My gran had a Mediterranean diet and lived to 104. Olive oil and sherry.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Not as a shot, but olive oil with balsamic vinegar, some better and salt is amazing on a Greek salad.
tenente · 100+, M
yes, with my vitamins to get the maximum effectiveness (fat-soluble)
