Do you still go to work even if you're sick?

Top | New | Old
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
Before I had a daughter, no. I would call off when I felt sick. But after having my daughter, if I get sick I'll just wear a mask, warn my coworkers, & stay working.

I guess what's changed is that it's not just ME I gotta take care of anymore. Missing a day cuts into my ability to take care of my family & I put my family first

@Coralmist ever since COVID I wear a mask every time I get sick. So many people dying from illnesses made me realize wearing a mask isn't about whether you need it or not. It's about protecting others, especially those with weaker immune systems. Like if I had COVID & didn't know.. I could leave those germs on a table & that could possibly kill some random old lady without me ever knowing. I think about that every time I'm sick so I'd rather be safe than sorry. I might feel fine but if I pass my flu to a coworker then they can bring it to their baby or their grandma
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@ChiefJustWalks It's really refreshing to see someone truly thinking about others. Thanks 🦋
I even wear the mask when not ill, it has definitely helped me when around many crowds in stores. I have not been sick in over two years now. The mask definitely has something to do with it because before COVID I got sick about twice a year. Thanks again!
calicuz · 56-60, M
Actually yes, but I need to stop doing that. We're still not completely done with Covid, so it's best to think of my coworker's health as much as mine.
I've actually been going to work sick the last few days, but it didn't hit me until last night that I might have Covid. 🤧
I have a Doctors appointment tomorrow, so I'll get tested before I go back to work on Friday.

@calicuz
Get well soon Cali!

@mindstruggle

Thank you. 🫠
Coralmist · 41-45, F
I am unemployed currently but before Covid, if I had a cold or sore throat I still went in. But if it was awful or I was excessively coughing, I'd take a day or two off.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Coralmist yes and its about your own comfort as well as the safety of your work colleagues 👍
WandererTony · 56-60, M
We learnt this work from home thing during Covid. I practice it when sick and encourage other too.
I have to. I'm self employed. That said, I dont often feel sick. I did feel unwell more often when I worked in a solicitors' office. But that might have been because most of them were scumnozzles. I worked for a while in Mum's health food shop so if I had tried a sickie I'd have got battered both at home and work 😅... ( not really. She would have shouted for a while then found me extra chores) 😊
scooogy · 31-35, MVIP
We've had almost half the staff sneezing in the office, but we still showed up. In those 10 weeks I made it to zero days off, even the boss had more with one day off. Yet they didn't hire me after internship
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
I used to. The only time I took time off work for being sick was when I had covid and had to take the week off.
Jessmari · 46-50
I had the mindset it was better to be sent home then to call in sick, but it's the other way around these days.
@Jessmari I think it depends on if it is catching or not....
i've been working my job for over 30 years...called in sick once....
Achelois · F
Yes I don’t take sick days, I don’t get sick much, if I am I still go.
Selah ·
I rarely ever get sick. I would use my sick time if I haven't already used it up to sleep in 😴.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
Not if I'm contagious but I've always had the option to wfh
It depends on if I am contagious or not. I am very conscious about making others sick.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@Idontbelonghere
You're so kind. 💙
@mindstruggle so are you 🩷 thank you🩷
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Yes, aside from having covid that one time
simjks4 · 22-25, M
It depends on how sick like 2 years ago I was sick all the time and I got dragged in and then for 10 whooooole minutes they shoved medicine down my throat 😭🙏
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@simjks4
You can't take meds?
simjks4 · 22-25, M
@mindstruggle nah i can it’s just for that its something that has to be applied directly

Yah..

But I can work from home . So it's not really much of a factor .
Kuronekko · 41-45, FNew
I work around food so not if its a stomach thing.
BlueVeins · 22-25
I just work remotely.
4meAndyou · F
When I was working in a crowded corporate office, I got sick a LOT more, but I never took time off unless I was recovering from surgery. EVERONE came in when they were sick...because they desperately wanted to GIVE their cooties to everyone else...🤣🤣🤣
Tumbleweed · F
Yes ma'am, unless I'm contagious
Ferric67 · M
@Tumbleweed I don't really get sick, but if I did and thought that I was contagious I wouldn't go either
Tumbleweed · F
@Ferric67 Well now that I work directly with food, I would definitely call out whether I'm contagious or not because that's just nasty.
I drive truck long haul. I wake up at work so yes
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Justafantasy Yeah I can see that. It must be exceptionally nice to be off the road when you get to take a real break.
@Gibbon and then go home to people saying "let's go somewhere! All you want to do is stay at home"
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Justafantasy Completely understandable. I would think they would get that.
GunFinger · F
Yes, I tell them I'm sick of them.🤣
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@GunFinger
Hahahaahha! Nice
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@GunFinger
Nope, and not when I'm not sick either.
Reject · 26-30, M
I always do if they let me. It would take a particularly nasty illness to keep me from working.
If I quit working when I'm sick, I'd never do anything...
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
A few years ago i decided i dont get sick anymore and it worked. 🤷‍♂
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@GuyWithOpinions
Teach me your ways master
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@mindstruggle like actually tho! I havent been sick in years. I just eat a regular diet, i dont really exercise or take anything. I just decided i dont get sick. When other people are getting sick around me, instead of "thinking oh i might get sick" i think, "im healthy, il be fine." And it just works 🤷‍♂
Ferric67 · M
I don't get sick
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F

JackOatMon · 46-50, M
Would always take a sick day.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
Sometimes. Depends on how sick I am and how contagious I could be.
dale74 · M
Why would I waste a sick day on being sick
dale74 · M
@beermeplease I don't know Canadian law
@dale74 i'm asking what you guys do down there. i always got the impression only senior management types get the perks
dale74 · M
