Oh you got picked picked ! 🤦🏻♀️ Ugh . If you ask questions like ,” what’s the max we can give them?” They will boot you. If you are quiet they will pick you
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@TexChik oh my word! Most people were really trying to get out of it
TexChik · F
@Sunnykel76 that one works every time if it’s a criminal case
PatKirby · M
Yep, 7 or 8 times in the past three years. Not joking I'm waiting for the next one to hit my mailbox. Didn't have to actually serve as they settled. I know they need jurors but jeezuz, let me breathe. Is it from the city or the county?
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
No. They never choose me - once due to my career and always due to the career of others in my immediate family.
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@LadyBronte They chose me even though I have family that works in the prison system.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Sunnykel76 I've heard they do sometimes, but never had it happen to me.
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
I have a couple times. It was interesting the first time to see how the system works. But I'd be happy if I never had to do it again.
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@WindTherapy yeah once is enough for me

SW-User
Yup.
Sat in a room all day because all the cases settled

Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
You got called or chosen???
I have been told I have it but I never get picked to actually do it for a trial.

Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@Dainbramadge trial is to last 4 days...that wont be too bad. But the nature of the trial is awful and an involves a child
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@Sunnykel76 Oh no. That would be a difficult type to have to listen to the gory details.
They didn't kill the child did they??????
THAT would be the hardest type of case I think.
I would probably be yelling "BURN HIM ALIVE" From the jury box. LOL

@Dainbramadge no not a death, just something else horrible. This world is sick and sad sometimes.
pearllederman · 61-69, F
one time yrs ago when i was working in a resort i got a letter about jury duty, i was just about to fly out to see my father who was in a nursing home and had already gotten tickets. so i called them and told them about it, and they excused me from it, other times ive gotten them but they would cancel them by the time i had to go there
BizSuitStacy · M
A couple of times. Got selected once.
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
Yes. Consider it an honor
4meAndyou · F
Sorry about that. Once, during a period of two years, WHILE I was working, I got picked four times. Never went to trial, and we were always dismissed.
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@4meAndyou 4 times..geez
4meAndyou · F
@Sunnykel76 I know. They see you showing up, and if you don't serve as a juror they keep calling you.
graphite · 61-69, M
I saw a guy get called onto the stand and he said compulsory jury service violated his 13th Amendment right against involuntary servitude. The prosecution sent him home a few minutes later.
ReneeT · 61-69, F
I was called in once. I spent the whole day being called in to a few jury selections but I didn't get picked.
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@ReneeT I didn't realize how long the process was. I was there most of the day
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@Sunnykel76 I have know some who have had to go back for a full week. That would not be too much fun

Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F

Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
I did when I was like 21. I get called for jury duty every 3 years like clock work.
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
Yes…. I served on a rape trial
Then I got picked again and served on a murder trial.

My former manager said if you randomly shout "Guilty!" When they're selecting jury you might get in some trouble but you won't actually be selected for the case

@graphite I meant as part of jury selection.
@TexChik had a better suggestion in
Yes, ask legitimate but tough and maybe biased questions and they shouldn't be able to punish you, but they won't select you either.

@Viper If you shout "Guilty!" during jury selection with the judge in the room, you better hope he/she is not in a bad mood. Or you could get cited for contempt of court. Here's a sample of what can happen if the judge is so inclined:

I've received the letter 4 times. The 1st time i wasn't needed so didn't hsve to come in. The 2nd time I got out of it. The 3rd time I was chosen as a prospective juror but they settled beforewe went in. The 4th time I was chosen as a prospective, questioned and nit chosen for the jury
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
So are you going to do it?
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@Muthafukajones I got selected
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
Yes, but I was dismissed. Not sure why. 🤔
BridgeOvertroubledWaters · 61-69, M
No , they don't have jurors here
Nimbus · M
Once.
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Nimbus the defendant was not a scouser in the dock you would have found him guilty and had him hung in the first ten minutes of the trial nimby 😆

Yes. I was even on a grand jury once. THAT was fun. I've always been eliminated somehow, so I've been lucky. Think of anything that they could bounce you out for, like if you have been a victim of a crime, etc.

@uncalled4 I thought it odd. I even has to approach the bench and spoke to the judge but she didn't dismiss me
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Sunnykel76 My boss was able to get me out once. Must be different in NJ.

kodiac · 22-25, M
I served on a jury about a month ago ,don't know if your actually on the jury or just in the early stage .The case we had was as bad as it gets rape of a child under age 10 3 of the hardest days of my life .Glad to help get a pedo off the street ,given a choice no way in hell i'd do it again .
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
@kodiac oh my I bet that was awful.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@Sunnykel76 The worst. If you get that kind of case you can find a way out during jury questioning just give the worst answer you can thgink of.
FreeSpirit1 · F
Once, but they settled before trial. Plea bargain to a lesser crime. Wasted my day 🤭
pdockal · 56-60, M
@FreeSpirit1 didn't you get paid ?
