When was the last time you cried, and why?

Early 70's. The decade, not my age. I was just beginning to feel I was becoming truly self-sufficient: married, two kids, career taking off, new home owner. My oldest son wanted to join Cub Scouts and typical of the era, scouting didn't want to have much to do with inner urban areas. Despite the fact I had never been a scout, I stepped up and volunteered to be Cub Master. My secretary's husband, who had become a good friend, a Vietnam Vet just back from combat, and his friend--both having been scouts--volunteered to assist me.

Then my secretary's husband was killed by a DUI hit and run driver. My youngest son was still in diapers. We were being pulled in so many directions, overloaded with both tasks and emotions, I called my mother to come help out.

The combination of having to admit to myself that I wasn't as self-sufficient as I thought, dealing with my secretary's grief and need for time off, the fact that a Bronze Star decorated combat veteran had survived a stupid war only to lose his life needlessly to an irresponsible drunk driver, the funeral for a friend my own age became overwhelming.

This morning -- our dog was shaking and panting hard and we were scared there was something wrong. That, on top of all my wife's problems, just overwhelm ed me for a while and I sat in front of the TV crying, feeling there was nothing I could do for anyone or about anything.

The pup seems okay, but she seems scared, and for the first time ever she tried to sneak out the front door when I opened it to get a package off the porch.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Infamous607 A little. The pup seems better, though still a bit loppy. Our son thinks it might be anxiety because there has been so much going on here recently.
Infamous607 · 51-55, M
@ChipmunkErnie
It could be..Dogs are very sensitive to chaos and change.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Infamous607 Seems likely that it was actually constipation. We got her eating chicken with lots of broth on it to hydrate her and today she seems much better. She'd been sticking her nose up at wet foods and trying to live off dry treats, so...

I don't normally cry anymore. My life has become very evened out.

At most, I tear up a little bit after reading touching stories here on SW.

However, I DID tear up in a major, major way on my birthday when a total stranger paid for my lunch, and didn't stick around so that I could thank her.
@4meAndyou Lovely! :D so happy for you, on both fronts.
4meAndyou · F
@4meAndyou welcome :)

Honestly, not all out crying, but this morning I found a picture of my wife and our first born son who was still born at 8 months into her pregnancy. It brought a sadness to my heart, and a tear to my eye thinking of how much love I have for my child who never got a chance at life. 😢
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
i reconnected with a friend after 30 years. He asked me about my birthday he was off by 3 days. So i said yours is March 14th right? He said yes you still remember that. I said it's the day i gave birth to and lost my son and he said i wish i would have been there for you and we both cried.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
I cried briefly about 3 weeks ago.

I think I've been in a state of shock and disbelief over something that has happened to me.

But it was when I was talking to my therapist, I effectively broke down because the realisation hit, that how I've been feeling is just resurfaced feelings from childhood.

To make things worse because I've been trying to remain strong I just didn't have the time practically to acknowledge my emotions.

I feel like for the most part I am emotionally numb, like I'm so used to being hurt that I pretty much just act like it didn't happen.

About a week ago. My oldest was in a major accident and we didn’t know the extent of things. Luckily, it was just a broken bone but time stood still in the worst of ways.
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M

Poppies · 61-69, F
About a month ago when I heard about a friend of a friend, overwhelmed with mothering chores, forgetting the beloved family dog in a hot car until it was too late. 😩
Wiseacre · F
@Poppies tragic
I really controlled my tears from falling today … I was in our weekly book club, listening to someone reading the book “Life Before Us” by Roman Gary, a very very beautiful book about a sad life, told with a bitter humor …
Holden · 31-35, M
When Ozzy Osborne died. One of my best friends just lost his dad during that same week. So yeah, for almost 3 weeks I spent a lot of time crying. For both deaths.
shinyplasticlove · 51-55, M
A few weeks ago. I discovered a song on Youtube that reminds me of my dog. Kind of a song of sadness and isolation. Kind of what my dog must have gone through when with her last A-Hole owner.
Sroonaka616 · 31-35, M

goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Infamous607 well...no one saw it.
Probably every day, but I don't think about it bc my life is hellish and I don't know what our future will bring. Not sure I will have a place to live even.
Often, I guess I sometimes feel very sad
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
A few days ago, I was treated very poorly.

Yesterday, during sex. 😅 It was a good cry, though. Just emotions running high because I’m very in love with the person I was having sex with.

@MyMonstersAreReal Sweetie, is there something you didn't tell us, or that I somehow missed because of this goddamn algorithm?

@MyMonstersAreReal Nope. Let's normalize talking about medical symptoms in clinical terms. Your symptoms flared up.
