Why would someone create false rumours about another person?

Beware of the so called friends who appear to care for you, whispering things about another person to you. They could just be making all that crap up. Maybe they just enjoy watching you react.

My experience is jealousy, I’ve had people make things up about me here, normally woman who I don't even know or interact with, who don’t like to see friendships with men here.
So they target you 🎯🙄
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@SW-User i always did and got slated for it.... as I said, I became known for being paranoid and over sensitive. But, in the last couple of years i've learned of a number of peeps been treated a similar way by the same groups of people.
I dont see any of them here anymore so dunno if they are still here. If they are, im sure they will be informed 'that daft sad ole cow RubySoo is still moaning about what happened years ago' by someone! Lol. And, im sure they will still get a kick out of knowing that...lol
Hey ho.....
SW-User
@RubySoo

Well I’m glad it stopped for you 😌
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@SW-User thanks. They are all blocked now, so i no longer see what they are up to.
SW-User
I've been on the receiving end and I simply don't care. I don't do drama or gossip. At one point I tried to figure it out but I'm just glad I don't understand. When they pop up, I block them.
SW-User
@SW-User yeah best to block. There's all kinds on here, some you definitely don't want contact with.
@SW-User saaameee some users here try to drag me into drama and even post bout me i just laugh idc its SW like its an invisible site unless you know EP if i upset them that much when all i post is positive stuff then thats their problem
SW-User
@TryingtoLava they come at you??? You're like a lil angel 🖤

This is an awfully weird place to spread hate. It's pretty much completely anonymous. How much fun can it be to insult strangers?
Piper · 61-69, F
Because they feel bigger by trying to make other people look small, I guess.
Piper · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti Ideally, but I believe that does depend very much on just who is listening. Sometimes the 'truth' doesn't matter much to people, when they want to believe something.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Piper yeah there are people like that. And if they are that damned gullible so be it.
SW-User
@Piper so true. The truth is irrelevant when people want to believe anything that feeds their agenda.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
Ive had it done to me a fair few times here..... for various reasons. I used to protest and fight my corner, but iften the people involved have tight circles of friends who are taken in by their take of events....so now I just block. It works for me, although Im totally aware when I post stuff like this, it still gets seen by people who previouly gave me a hard time via their alt accounts and loyal friends.
Sadly, it will never stop happening.
SW-User
This is what I call enablers. These people could actually help her heal and yet they focus on something else. Anyway, it is confusing behaviour and yet typical.
@RubySoo
SW-User
I have a feeling, even some of those who complain about that, are more than guilty of what makes them angry. This place burns the embers of the lowest emotions of humanity too often.
SW-User
@SW-User I actually had to question myself, am I now blocking for spite of being blocked by someone I love? And the feelings were mutual, or expressed as being, so I toiled over a heart's minute, if you are willing to do this, then you learn the meanings too.
SW-User
@SW-User It is sometimes a knee jerk reaction to block someone we have love for and they love us. For whatever reason they chose to block but it could be for so many reasons and not necessarily something bad for you. They may just need some cooling off period. These are just my thoughts as a random stranger. Only you know your situation.
SW-User
@SW-User Yes I know, and I won't say too much upon this, but there might be also something about places like this. They are so transient and anonymous, people allow themselves their own flaws. I won't say they never found love, that cheapens the emotions, and I know some people do this in real life, but life always lived in person has a way of forcing people to see themselves, their loves, and their relationships.

One thing I know in my heart I've always needed, understanding, conversation and mutual respect no matter how torn it becomes.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Out of jealousy
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
True @Jenny1234
SW-User
They instigate drama to cause chaos and upset because then they can make others feel what they feel. If they can't control people they lose their shit.
SW-User
@SW-User Yes. This feels true.
NerdySoph · 26-30, F
To control the narrative, create a circle of power to feel superior. Evil.

I welcome any and all false rumors about me. It tickles me when i witness stupidity in action.
SW-User
@Zonuss there are so many of these here. They lack something deeply and fill it up in malicious ways in places like these.
maskedbandit · 61-69, M
@NerdySoph 👍 🙂and I may be that one person. 😅
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@NerdySoph im with you 100%!
I've said this before....but apparently It was just me being paranoid.
Magenta · F
Indeed. There is a motivation behind it, for them doing that and they are the ones who look bad in my eyes.
Although none of my friends here do that.
I know it's been done about me though.
Magenta · F
@PoetryNEmotion Hi! Aw thank you, I'm seldom here now.
Always a good thing to see you and a joy to read your poems. ✨🩷
@Magenta If you wish, I will send you the name of a site where I post them more often. Do let me know. Happy days to you. The other world keeps you busy. And that is fine. I can message you if need be. I know you are fine.
Magenta · F
@PoetryNEmotion Yes please send me the link. Maybe I shall post there too!
Yes it does, especially lately.
Hope you have been well, also.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
I'm going through this right now at work I just let them do it because it speaks louder on their character and the truth will always come out eventually and that person will be exposed for who they truly are
SW-User
@DeluxedEdition it is certainly a reflection of someone's character but I would be a little jarred if it happened in my workplace.
Friends are the worse to spread rumors about other “friends”
SW-User
@Sojournersoul They're just puppet masters watching people react to their whim.
@SW-User yes they are. Have to try and pick friends carefully
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Narcissists love to do that. Have them in my family and have worked with some. One at work caused two cousins to not speak to each other for a year because she went to each one and spread false rumors to them. I don’t know what she said but my friend went to each one and told them to go talk to each other and they made up. They were very close before that happened. That’s how mean these people can be. She also got someone mad at me after I refused to buy a car from her husband. I went on vacation and came back after two weeks and my supervisor was hostile towards me.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User I was so glad when she quit that job after having a baby. She ended up leaving her husband to raise that child when he was young and running off to Canada. That man would do anything for her and she blew it.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti he had a blessing in disguise.
Poor child though.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User yeah I agree. She did her first husband wrong too. He worked with us and was a good man. Ended up quitting and starting a business and then went to truck driving school and bought a semi, made enough to buy a second semi to lease out and make money. He also bought a house. She blew that too.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
Don't matter how imaginative they may be, there are some real stories of mine that I now find almost unbelivable.
SW-User
@ElRengo yes I get that. I don't recognise myself from even 5 years ago and yet there is a familiarity in my experiences. Like a shadow that is there, almost faint.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@SW-User
Like a shadow of ourself. Yes.
And even feeling both, the familiarity and the otherness, an almost alien one that is a needed precondition to being whom we are now.
durinsBane1983 · 46-50, M
never happened to me, but if it did it wouldn't bother me as i know who i am and know the truth, false rumours don't change the truth.
SW-User
@durinsBane1983 yes. Nothing anyone says changes our truth. In the meantime it can create discomfort.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Makes them feel popular I guess. In a C#nt sort of way.
Sazzio · 36-40, M
Guess people love to play politics. Relationship, work - can be anyone anytime. Reason is sheer enjoyment to jealousy.
SW-User
@Sazzio yes.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
Learned that the hard way. 😮‍💨
SW-User
@mindstruggle I have too and it's why I keep distance from everyone here. Lol, that isn't enough to stop people from creating their stories.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@SW-User
I’m sorry. Yea that’s the best thing we can do. Unfortunately, mine happened irl.
SW-User
@mindstruggle Fortunately, irl I have never had such an experience. It's all the more reason I find it so bizarre when it happens. Like my cells do not know how to react because they have no muscle memory. 😂
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
And…. They will do the same thing about you with others.
SW-User
@Ambroseguy80 Of course. It's an addiction for some people.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
I think something about ME may be floating around out there.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
I really don't know the answer to that.

I don't believe I've had anyone making up things about me....and if they did, then I haven't seen or heard any of it.
I have been blocked by some (I don't even know who, most times, because there was no warning, or argument of any kind to warrant a block) and it's possible they might have things to say about me, but I can't see it so I am left blissfully unaware 🤪

The way I see it, what someone else has to say about me is not my business.

(sorry you're having a rough time with that kind of shit though)
SW-User
@ImpeccablyImperfect I'm okay. I very quickly realised the person telling me is unhinged and most likely made it up in her head.
Remember they are all grand warriors behind a keyboard.

And it truly takes a stronger person to build then to teardown.
@NightsWatch They have delusions of grandeur. No warrior in them whatsoever.
SW-User
@NightsWatch yep. Playing out their insecurities in awful ways instead of learning how to heal from their troubles.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
I extremely rarely talk about people behind their backs, so this issue doesn't arise for me.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SW-User Your question poses that scenario. If I am whispering something to you about another person, that does seem to be talking behind that person's back.
SW-User
@Zeusdelight or two totally different people could be talking about a third person. The third person could be a person who doesn't partake in such hobbies.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SW-User Whichever scenario, the third person is innocent, aren't they? They are simply being talked about.

The difficulty is what is said about that person by one person to the other. Is the speaker being truthful or manipulative or even partly both?
Isn't it amazing that some one would do that? But it's more common than we think. Why do they do it? I have no idea
SW-User
@Futuremirror It's very disturbing and yet not surprising based on what I have learned of human nature. But even more disturbing to be at the end of some stupid fake rumour. Good thing someone confronted me about it or I would not even have known. And I hope this person realises the snake they deal with.
SW-User
I'm not sure I'm important enough on here to deal with that
@SW-User of course your important enough dear.

Guess you have some how slipped through the cracks
SW-User
@SW-User I am hardly important. Lol. Mostly unknown.
My father owns the story. He's also got all the money. The believers eat well and live indoors.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
Is this happening to you in real life or SW ?
SW-User
@scorpiolovedeep Here, SW.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
@SW-User It does show how low people can go in life , sorry to hear
SW-User
@scorpiolovedeep it's alright. Thank you.
People are people. Some are so flawed. They like causing trouble. They like hurting others. Online is all smoke and mirrors. All the more reason to choose friends carefully. Never let them see you sweat. Anyone who is a friend and maligns you to others is so not a friend. Dump them immediately.
@SW-User Please do not let them take away your power, your beauty, your truth. And that friend who will not name names? She is not your friend. Get rid of her too. It is a scheme.
SW-User
@PoetryNEmotion She definitely cannot take from me. It's more a nuisance to have to deal with this kind of thing. She had been blocked because she started getting more and more unhinged and no amount of being civil was calming her down.
Not my problem though and I tried my best to talk sense.
@SW-User There are some really messed up people here. Can you imagine how pitiful she is in the other world? You cannot deal with that kind of people here. Nor there. They are forever lost.
To make themselves seem more interesting?
SW-User
Aysel · F
That's why I don't have social media friends.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
Jealousy, Envy, Insecurity, etc. usually
SW-User
@wildbill83 Sounds like the usual suspects behind all idiocies.
HannibalMontanimal · 26-30, M
Good thing I trust absolutely nobody.
SW-User
No good reason exists.
SW-User
@SW-User one would think, yes.
maskedbandit · 61-69, M
True and, 🤷‍♂️ 🙂
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I got well aware and dumped them the second I found out.
SW-User
@Queendragonfly Smart. I have a policy not to talk to people on here in private conversations, and that is part of the reason. It gets very murky very quickly.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@SW-User I understand that decision, I can make exceptions but generally,no dms no.
Yeah, that is why I tend to keep my distance from folks who live for gossip.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard Same. I run far from those who live in drama and chaos.
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
Because they are pathetic and inwardly they already know that to be the case.
SW-User
@RuyLopez certainly some kind of insecurity.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
Lol

Idk tbh. I loved this woman once and she like spread rumors about me. Made me look like the trash on earth.
@Beatbox34 When, in fact, she was trash!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Beatbox34 you are much better off without that woman. Getting married to someone like that would make your life hell on earth.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@PoetryNEmotion I cut her off. I was not ready for the mental torture. At one fine point, I decided that even if she was the last woman on earth, Id rather choose to die alone than spend a moment with someone that toxic.
popmol · 26-30, M
i only do it about enemies! screw me over and use the silver tongue to whispers negatives, rumours, insults and more!
popmol · 26-30, M
@SW-User i was just thinking about making bad fake rumours :p
SW-User
@popmol someone upsetting you?👀
popmol · 26-30, M
@SW-User ooh no your question made me think of it i currently have no enemies besides myself 🤣
SW-User
Miserable? Want to take you down because they fear you're better than them and will leave them behind?
SW-User
@SW-User fear and insecurity are big motivators certainly.
Fragile ego ....or jealousy ?
The need to lie to a third party about someone to demean them is a chicken shit move .
@SW-User Welli...it's process brings people's true nature's into the light eventually .
1 - the person doing the lying .
2 - the people willing to Believe it 🤷

At work, we have someone like this ....and most people fawn to them .
But the interesting thing is, when they aren't there - everyone is happier, more relaxed and laugh more....and get along better.

Which I think is very telling .
To me it means, they aren't friends with this person out of genuine affection and respect, they are 'friends' with them only so they aren't a target.

A friendship made of Fear and falsity is basically a very fragile one 🙄....in fact, I question if it's one at all 🤔
SW-User
@OogieBoogie worth thinking about. Sometimes people encourage such friends because a part of them enjoys that toxicity. They end up gaslighting themselves when they refuse to listen to the nudges of their feelings.
@SW-User true ...true .
Prettybratbi1tch · 26-30, F
Some people are just miserable and want others to be too
SW-User
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Because they wish they were as great as you that's why they envy you. They are far and below . I just had a friend here who left because other women were jealous of her. She's way better than they will ever be too. 🙂
Easy ways to avoid this #1 dont take PMs #2 dont let irl bleed into the internet #3 dont give a f cuz theyre obvi losers and usually my moms or grandmas age aka they never grew up
ExtremeNext · 36-40
Jealousy
I know a lot of the ugly fat sweathog women of SW say things about me 🥺
SW-User
@ExtremeNext Doesn't it get annoying for you?
ExtremeNext · 36-40
@SW-User not really it's just how ugly fat sweathog women are
Zonuss · 46-50, M
What's funny ThinkingOutLoud is that some of the people here on this post are currently participating in this type of behavior. They are like wolves in the midst sheep. Which pretty much just proves your point. Happy New Year 🕛. 🙂☕☕☕
SW-User
@Zonuss Happy New Year.

What you say does not surprise me.
SW-User
They're insecure and jealous
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User Personality disorders too.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Sorry that’s happening to you. If they can’t tell you who it is then they just want to stir up even more drama.
SW-User
@iamonfire696 there is a part of me that thinks she made it up about someone telling her. She was progressively unhinged with her accusations until I blocked her.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@SW-User She likely did make it up. Glad you blocked that person. You are living rent free in that persons head and she means nothing to you.
SW-User
It's not FALSE

I have sent over 6 email to the SW Team about me not being able to post questions

I get no replies

IT'S CALLED SHADOW BANNED
SW-User
@SW-User Well, that suits your narrative. In my particular experience that I speak of, the rumour and accusation about me was cuckoo level false.
