There are tons of great songs over 6 minutes, from multiple genres (it goes without saying that jazz, classical and ambient will often be long)
"Third Stone From the Sun" (Mitch Mitchell, and, oh, yeah, Hendrix too)
[media=https://youtu.be/Zts332Y-nyg]
Fela Kuti | "Water No Get Enemy"
[media=https://youtu.be/IQBC5URoF0s]
Long songs tend to be the rule in post-rock (never mind prog) ...
Explosions in the Sky | "Your Hand in Mine"
[media=https://youtu.be/1aMQ8db4Y4c]
And with electronic music it just depends on which mix of a song you get as to whether that mix is over or under 6 minutes ...
Orbital | "Halcyon On and On"
[media=https://youtu.be/bV-hSgL1R74]
Then you have some avant-garde stuff like this ...
Glenn Branca | "Lesson No.1 for Electric Guitar"
[media=https://youtu.be/UMwODttfnl8]
And minimalism ...
Steve Reich | You Are (Variations), Mvt. I
[media=https://youtu.be/ymsBThCPQN0]
Here's one last random one ...
The Flaming Lips | "One Million Billionth of a Millisecond on a Sunday Morning"
[media=https://youtu.be/lzscAw1_nA4]

American pie goes over 7 I think
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@AnneHoney 'American Pie' was the first 'long song' that came to mind when I read this post. There are plenty of others, but many were not released as singles. 'American Pie' came out on 45rpm in the UK, and hit No.2 early in 1972. The eponymous album is very good, too.
