What “long song” (6+ minutes) is worth every minute?

@AnneHoney 'American Pie' was the first 'long song' that came to mind when I read this post. There are plenty of others, but many were not released as singles. 'American Pie' came out on 45rpm in the UK, and hit No.2 early in 1972. The eponymous album is very good, too.
