I laugh at people who back in at Costco when I know they’re going to buy hella lot of stuff and won’t be able to get it in their trunk

@JimboSaturn Amen brother

The correct way to park a car is backing in
Carparks are badly built

@Strictmichael75 and cars are getting bigger.

@Strictmichael75 I'm sure they did. The large superstore style supermarkets we are talking about weren't around in the 60s and 70s. At least not in the UK. Some of these supermarket carparks don't draw their parking spaces wide enough. The modern trend in cars these days tend to be the SUV style. These are considerably wider than the more traditional hatchbacks or saloon cars. If 2 SUVs park side by side, it's highly unlikely that both of them will be able to open their doors. More often than not you will see these sorts of cars parked over the lines effectively occupying 2 spaces.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
It's a "bonnet" in this country but it does make sense for me to drive in forwards because my car is a hatchback. Though with sliding rear doors I can also load it from the side, and often do.
I added a reversing camera (often built in on more modern cars) to help in tight spaces, including parking at home. I live in a narrow street of terraced houses where parking can often be difficult and finding a space outside your own home, is a gamble for all of we residents there.

Sometimes its hard to park it tight parking lots. You have a better turn radius when you backing up.
BeefySenpie · M
Done it before. Groceries can go in passenger or back seats. I’m not buying the whole store 🙄

I drive a 21' van I'll go wherever I fit ha!
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
It depends on the layout of the car park. Generally I will always try to back into parking spaces. Its a lot easier to manoeuvre backwards and safer when pulling out. If I know I am going to need to get ro the boot i will drive in forwards.
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
I try to find a spot where I can pull straight through. I don’t like backing out in a parking lot
redredred · M
I just don’t understand why people do this. Backing into a small, tightly defined space is obviously more of a hassle than backing out into a larger open space.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@redredred 99% of the population doesn't have the skill to reverse into a space smoothly.
Cantsayno · 56-60, M
So I actually try to always back into any parking space.
Unfortunately grocery stores I can’t because I have to put the groceries in the back.
Every time I back out. I’m like, I hate this , I hate this , I hate this. I feel so unsafe.
But no matter what, I always put my carriage in the corral.
Sorry for the long answer.

As a rule, people who back in to a parking spot without a good reason for doing so are, overwhelmingly, douchebags, especially if they insist on holding up traffic to do it. That said, if they don't bother me, I don't bother them.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@DunningKruger I know some people who back up religiously, even in their own driveway. They take their backing up as a matter of pride and get pissed at people who don't appreciate the superiority of backing up.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@JimboSaturn Hey, whatever makes them happy, as long as they're not in my way.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
if you're a piss poor driver and you're gonna take 15 minutes to back in then you have no business doing it.
Ontheroad · M
I have to admit it annoys me to no end. It wouldn't be so bad if they knew how to back up, but 99% of the time they need to take three or more tries to get it done, which blocks others from getting along with their parking.
Anielka · F
It's a totally stupid trend that's supposed to save you a few seconds, unfortunately now a days most people can't drive or park straight much less park in reverse.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@Anielka I prefer the pull through technique. Find 2 spaces back to back that are empty and pull into the one facing the lane, so you're ready to pull out forward. you can always find this in a large lot.
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
Just pull straight through. Its that simple
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Jonjdw I didn't think there is much to choose between any of the supermarkets. They have to make best use of the land available when they build the shops, and it can be quite cramped in some places.
The one I went to this morning, a Lidl, has lots of space and its car-park is in two parts well spread out. On the other hand a supermarket about the same distance in the other direction is squeezed into a triangular site between two roads, making for quite tight car-parks.
Went to - didn't use. I'd forgotten to take a Pound coin for the trolley lock!

It makes no sense to me either. Maybe if you don't have a lot of items and don't need to get the grocery cart behind you car.
Bklynbadboy12 · 31-35, M
I always back in cause people be walkin behind your car even though they so you back out
I do this. The fck I can see when I'm reversing out. There's always some idiot walking behind a reversing car.
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@Jonjdw I don't mind parking on the other side of the carpark and walking. I don't like parking next to anyone if there are gaps elsewhere. The only bug bare with that is if you have to take the trolley back to the store front. That's a pain in the butt. The larger supermarkets have trolley stations dotted around the car park.
Prisoner1972 · 51-55, M
It makes perfect sense if you have a Volkswagen or a Corvair.
Goodluckwiththat · 56-60, M
No, much easier, safer to get out, your first move is forward!
Stillwaiting · M
Depends on what's behind you .. and how much you're buying
deadgerbil · 26-30
It's only problematic if spaces are too tight
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Yes I always park so my trunk is facing the laneway
plungesponge · 41-45, M
That dude about to rob da joint

It's totally stupid.

pdockal · 56-60, M
I always back in

I could really care less.
