Would US gun control be more likely if...

..the media didn't censor and sanitize mass shootings to avoid "disturbing" viewers. What we see is clean, routine outside shots of police and others walking around the scene, blurred images (if any) of victims, etc., when the reality of today is made up of the screams of terrified children and adults, the bullet-savaged bodies of 18 children lying in pools of their own blood and their classmates' blood on school floors, the pain of the survivors being rushed to hospital. A mass shooting is a horror and we should be forced to confront that horror and not allow it to be hidden from view to prevent America from being "upset" by reality. :'(

Apparently there are 50 senators who Refuse to vote for more restrictive gun laws. If they all voted the US would be a better place.
Who is stopping them/financially encouraging them not to vote against? … the NRA.
RedBaron · M
@justanothername Gun laws wouldn't deter anyone intent on shooting a bunch of people.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@RedBaron Overall traffic control laws seem to work for the majority of the population so why can’t gun control laws?
RedBaron · M
@justanothername Because anyone angry, psychotic, demented et al enough to consider shooting a bunch of people isn't ethical or rational enough to be concerned with laws or rules.
RedBaron · M
Gun control laws would do nothing to prevent gun violence, just like drug laws do nothing to prevent drug use.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@RedBaron Thanks man. I am pretty smart 😎
RedBaron · M
@luckranger71 At least you think so.

Ah yes, more emotional manipulation to disarm law abiding citizens is what we need lol.

The odds of dying in a school shooting as of parkland was 1 in 614 million. If you think playing on people's emotions using such an insanely rare tragedy for political gain is smart you're literally the worst kind of person.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Anon066 Hey, you're law-abiding until you break the law. Then it's too late.
Anon066 · 31-35, M
@ChipmunkErnie are you trying to make a point?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Anon066 Not to you -- you won;t know reality if it bit you in the ass.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
It might. But then some d#ckheads who forget what school was like, will try to advocate for all the kids to be armed instead.

I read somewhere there are a few US states that have enacted Gun Control legislation on those machine guns favoured by mass shooters. But the Gun companies just change something on the gun design and claim its a different weapon in order to keep selling them...

The violence in the US will never end.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Gun control will be more likely if they declare an open season on politicians and judges. Then things will get put right real quick. But if you dont like guns, Leave America. Sadly its come to that. Everyone with a gun is afraid of everyone else. Why? Because they have a gun. Fear was a pandemic in America long before Covid,😷
justanothername · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Imagine how bad it would be if none of those improvements had been implemented…
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@justanothername Or if everyone claimed freedom to drive any way they liked...😷
justanothername · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman As long as you drive in an off road or controlled environment type situation.
@ChipmunkErnie The American public doesn't cope well with sensitive graphic videos like that being shown on national TV that can be seen by other children. However, they might change the thinking of some of the "No changes to the 2nd Amendment Senators" if they are 'forced' to sit through 'reality' videos like that with plenty of barf bags available. I don't think that will happen either. 🤷‍♂️
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@ChipmunkErnie I agree with that principle. The American public do not cope well with reality. In this case access to firearms gives people the idea that they can fight back if pushed individually.. The reality is that a gun in the house makes a person feel that they dont need their neighour, community. or countrymen. They are rugged individials.. And rugged individuals can be isolated and picked off. America has already lost what made it great in the first place. Its unity.😷
@ChipmunkErnie Have you watched the news clips of Sen. Ted Cruz's solution to school shootings, 'hardening the schools"?
It's the schools fault! 😳
That tells me that the Senate isn't considering any plan or making any changes to gun control. He might just as well have said; So just count on more school shootings and more mass murders of children, and get use to it because we live in a country where gun violence is acceptable. 😳 ?
(added) Gun violence is obviously acceptable to the GOP, the NRA, and the gun lobby.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@softspokenman As long as the dummies in Texas keep electing that pile of shit they shouldn't get upset when he craps on them.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
Should we arm teachers?

No, teachers can't even be trusted to recommend books.

Maybe we should ban assault rifles instead of books. Ernie
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@GrinNude It is a major tragedy when anyone is slaughtered by a nutcase. But there have been lots of recent instances where innocent people have been murdered by assorted nitwits and the Slave Patrollers. In a majority of those cases everyone from judges to police chiefs and the local yokels have made excuses for the murderers and exonerated them. So, when you get as outraged over those cases as you seem to get when kids are murdered in school rooms maybe, just maybe, things will start to change for the better.

Do you remember the guy wo murdered the people at church and the cops took him out for a hamburger and fries? Do you remember the nitwit Slave Patroller that broke into a guy's apartment and shot him dead and when the judge passed sentence the judge cried for having to do it? There are tons of such cases. Get pissed off when those murderers get away with their crimes and then you will be getting on the right track.
@Diotrephes If you need to have a gun with you to feel safe, it seems those are the people who are wimps.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@independentone I don't own or carry a gun. I really don't like the idea of being in crowds where untold numbers of people are carrying loaded guns and, if things started to happen, they would draw and start shooting all over the place. I'm not paranoid about it but I know that it can happen at any time.
justanothername · 51-55, M
If you took the power away from the NRA you would solve 90% of your problems over night. The NRA puts big money in to backing politicians who vote in favor of ease of access to guns.
RedBaron · M
@justanothername You can't control and legislate away human nature. Unfortunate but true ever since Cain killed Abel.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@RedBaron You can set limits. And have consequences when you exceed those limits.

As adults we make conscious decisions. We there for need to be held responsible for the outcomes of those conscious decisions when they impact other peoples lives.
RedBaron · M
@justanothername Anyone intent on shooting a bunch of people obviously isn't worried about limits and consequences. It all gets back to shit happens that we can't control. People have trouble coming to grips with the irrational and random because it's scary.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
No. US political dysfunction is bigger than just the gun problem. All problems go unresolved in America.
No. It would have a reaction at first but then people would get used to it very quick and go back to killing. Also remember there are blood thirsty people out there that would then get off to the images. And no that is not hyperbole. I have known people with a murder fetish and half the government loves abusing children.
the only way Congress will ever pass gun control laws is if someone gets onto the floor of Congress with a firearm and shoots and kills several members of Congress. Then a law would be passed the next day.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I don't think it's likely even if we showed the worst of reality. It would only scare people into wanting guns more.

Let's be honest, both sides will admit there are mental health issues. We can't even get action towards fixing parts of the issue we can agree exists. If we refuse to move forward to fix the parts that we agree on, I don't even have hope for the parts that we don't even have that much in.
Montanaman · M
Not any more than showing aborted fetuses.
So, no. Won't work. 🙄
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Montanaman The ones that make the news do.
Montanaman · M
@justanothername isn't if funny (funny strange/funny weird) that they seem to happen after one major mass shooting. Like okay, its my turn to make the news? Or is it a leftist agenda? More mass shootings fit their anti-gun/gun ban agenda?
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Montanaman news’s gets reported regardless of who did what to who but with social media it’s all about “ me too”
That guy did that so let’s do one bigger and go viral. We have been having shopping mall ram raids by teenagers all recording themselves and uploading it to TikTok so that others can follow and do the same. It’s about bravado and notoriety more than anything else. Social media has just enabled to to be broadcast sooner and faster to a bigger market and as a result news stations run with it because it’s news.

What do you mean censored? Photos and videos are over shared through media all over websites like facebook ... We are exposed to more disturbing images now more than ever
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Publishing photos and videos of dead kids in their own blood might get a reaction. "One side"™ would claim it is fake and the beginnings of gun confiscations.
exchrist · 31-35
softening igt is reducing the impact
GrinNude · 61-69, C
Absolutely yes. Good point.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
No, I don’t think anything will help unless they were fetuses.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Yes! Fuck people's delicate sensibilities. Show exactly what's going on in them, and people will demand increased restrictions, "red flag" laws, and more.

@Ferise1 Do you have any idea how much it would cost on a national scale every year?

It's estimated that there are 3,708,000 public and private school teachers in elementary and secondary schools right now. Do you think $1.00 per teacher would be enough for your plan?
@Ferise1 When I mentioned his Charity Foundation it was because He was court ordered, 12/10/2019, to pay a total of $2million for illegal use of charity funds, 8 separate charities received $250,000 each. If you would like more information about that it is available on the web and maybe on YouTube also.
