Support for Ukraine: Time for a Clear Decision

Since the start of the war, Ukraine has received significant support from the EU and the USA, totaling approximately $332 billion. The EU has contributed around $162 billion, while the USA has provided about $175 billion.

Now, we must make a clear decision: Either we end the support and give nothing more, effectively ending the war, or we provide Ukraine with enough resources to actually drive Russia out of their country and thereby end the war. This constant "giving a little" is not enough to maintain the status quo and will keep the war dragging on for decades. It is time to take a decisive stance and either fully support the conflict or cease aid entirely.

I vote we stop giving away taxpayer dollars to one of the most corrupt nations in Europe and instead spend it on our own national security and prosperity.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
@newjaninev2
I was referring to the current issues facing America. I have no idea how you all are doing in New Zealand😊
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@SlaveEt Every country faces current issues and concerns... that doesn't make it all a mess.

I'm familiar with US, having lived there three times, having financial interests there, and having many friends scattered around, and America is obviously boosting!

Of course, the Trump Party does exactly what their owner does... steal the successes and blame someone else for the failures, and spread fear and gloom at every opportunity.

There is only one right/ethical/moral way forward. Flood Ukraine with everything thay need to force Putin to stop his invasion of a sovereign nation. Short of that, the U.S. will be responsible for the destruction of Ukraine, and weakening itself and NATO.

If you aren't bright/savy enough to understand, then don't bother bother responding.

Pull out! Ukraine can't defeat Russia. The US needs to abandon this folly and take care of its own. That country is riddled with corruption and would be far better off under the orderly and watchful guidance of Vladimir Putin.
@Kenworth4954 Comraden thanks for showing your Communist colors.

Those who love & support democracy understand that this war is important
Elessar · 26-30, M
Pulling support won't end up the war. It'll just give Russia time to reorganize and open the next front.

For all that money poured in Ukraine the the USA, Australia, etc. that could have nullified all the costs of the Covid Plandemic which has now left a big 'scar' on humanity for the next 50 to 100 years.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@MarkPaul So by your definition 'non-democracies' are part of the Eastern World. Democracy is a fairly subjective term - Australia claims to be one but in a lot of respects isn't. The EU is not a 'country' so it doesn't count. Is Ukraine one? Remember it used be part of the USSR.

@newjaninev2 Nope just facts.

Yhe only ones escalating nuclear saber rattling is western fear mongering mills.

I see you are still lying about nazis in Ukraine when evrn Radio Free Europe has given up lying about that.

It is cute that you claim what I say is debunked yet you have no counter beyond diversion.
walabby · 70-79, M
If Russia defeats Ukraine it will then have the use of the Ukrainian army. That would make it very powerful indeed. I don't think that it would be wise to let Putin win...
@walabby I don't think Putin is interested in taking over the Ukrainian army, which will be composed of people who hate him. He wants eastern Ukraine and a guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO.
walabby · 70-79, M
@LeopoldBloom I suspect that he wants all of Ukraine and Moldova and the Baltic states to boot.
@walabby There aren't enough Russian soldiers to hold that much territory. They couldn't even hold Afghanistan.

@hippyjoe1955 Ukraine just like Israel are acting like 'defacto' US states. I hope Kamala if elected puts the knife through all the funding and support those two countries receive. You can bet Trump will amp it up.
@zonavar68 Also nobody is getting a straight answer about any of it. Case in point. Everyone is claiming in the media that Ukraine is losing now because 61 billion in funding was delayed.

Almost immediately after that happened the Ukrainian PM went on Canadian news for an interview and said they need 800 billion to win against Russia. So the entire US defense budget.

Also everyone ignores the fact that even all of NATO cannot produce enough weapons for it to matter. And the news lies and pretends that money allocation is the same thing as physical deliveries.

You can have 1 trillion dollars to spend but if there is no product to buy it doesn't matter.

Also you cannot buy properly trained armies.

And money doesn't solve incompetent leaders.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@zonavar68 Kamala will do the bidding of the Satanists who are headquartered in Israel. Left to his own devices Trump will do the same.
Completely agreed- they need all the support they can get.

God willing the war doesn't last that long but if it does, it would be great for us in the UK to provide them with some of the planned Challenger 3 tanks.
This comment is hidden. Show Comment
The problem nobody talks about is no matter what your feelings are on the conflict the US and NATO are promising tons of money but can't deliver the product.

NATO and the US got Ukraine in an artillery heavy land war and according to even American news sources Russia is out producting the US and NATO combined on artillery shells.

The US and NATO can promise 5 trillion and it won't matter if they can't deliver actual ammunition.

And there are similar situations with other systems like air defense. There is a reason why the US has been sending them Vietnam era air defense systems like the hawk.

Ukraine has become a free money maker for US and EU weapons companies and a place for the same countries to dump their junk surplus.

And well the Times of India is already reporting General Syrskyi is looking to surrender. My guess is they will keep the show going till November so the war is not lost before the election.
@newjaninev2 Except that is a straight up lie. You can say something is true. Doesn't make it a fact.
@newjaninev2 Even the first point of sovereignty is debatable with a vassal state. Also thanks to mister Zelensky the US client state of Ukraine no longer even pretends to be a democracy. Only Ukraine has cancelled all elections, had their president declare themselves essentially leader for life, made it illegal to negotiate peace, and has locked up and charged with treason all opposition of any significance.

And yeah, nobody ever talked about erasing Ukrainians....except such gems as Poroshenko bragging about shelling Ukrainian children because they happen to be ethnically Russian. Only Kiev declared 2 million Russian Ukrainians "terrorists".

And quit trying to pretend this is Gaza. it is not.

Well Ukraine doesn't maintain any democratic values of any kind at this point. And those are all just bullshit talking points meaning fighting and dying for American Empire.

But I mean you should know that since your own government has handed over it's sovereignty from England to Washington for decades at this point too.

Might make you feel better about being a colony again.

Actually despite the Republican / trumper BS lie campaign we aren't giving Ukraine anything.

The money they are getting is from frozen Russian assets in America and they are only handed cash to hand back to us when they buy weapons from us.

complete waste of money

I have an idea, let's just re-introduce the draft /w a few modifications

do away with the standard exemptions like age, gender, college, mental health, etc. and include illegal immigrants/residents; have it apply in canada as well (for those that try to flee the US to avoid it)

People like @Ontheroad, @KiwiBird, @Strictmichael75, @BritishFailedAesthetic, etc. could be in the first wave...
@wildbill83 Sure if a draft were ever to be introduced.... would it be possible for me to be part of a tank crew? Would love to ride in a Challenger 2 😎

Proxy wars are wasteful and dangerous.
Stop poking the bear.
It's a stalemate. I don't think any amount of extra money will be enough for Ukraine to be able to push Russia out of the country. All the aid has accomplished is to prolong the war and stop Putin from winning. There are two possibilities from here. If Biden wins, Putin knows the aid will continue, and he's not going to prolong the war four more years in the hope that a president sympathetic to Russia will win in 2028. He'll declare victory and go home. If Trump wins, the aid will stop and Zelensky will give up eastern Ukraine and agree to never join NATO in return for a cessation of hostilities.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@LeopoldBloom russia will never cease hostilities.

russia's standard procedure has always been to deny any intention to steal, then steal as much as possible, and insist it now belongs to them. When the response causes them problems, they offer to return part of what they stole... leaving them with a nett gain. In the ensuing pause they quickly reposition themselves, return and steal what they gave back and as much extra as possible. When the response causes them problems, they offer to return part of what they stole... rinse and repeat.

Over and over and over... it's what russia has always done, but they're just starting to realise that this time nobody is going to play that particular game with them, so rather than their bots constantly calling for 'negotiations' they're now calling for 'peace plans'.

For the barbarians it's the same thing... breathing space during which the next, and even more deadly, phase will be planned and prepared.
@newjaninev2 I agree, any peace treaty would be temporary. It's also meaningless to hold Ukraine to a permanent agreement to never join NATO.

The fact remains that Ukraine's fate hinges on the outcome of the election here. Trump has already said he will "end" the war by halting all military aid, which will mean victory for Russia in whatever form that takes.

Or do the same thing the Russians are doing: rent mercenaries from other countries. We did it in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

Ukraine does not have enough soldiers to counter the endless flow thrown at it.
@Northwest Big difference is Russia has the ammo to give their soldiers.

The US could hire out as many mercs as they want but the US and NATO combined can't product enough artillery shells for it to matter.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Given that this war would never have happened had NATO kept it's 1991 promise. It is time to end the blood shed and stop supporting the expansion of NATO (AKA Ukraine) This shame will remain with the US and NATO for all eternity.
emiliya · 22-25, F
Enough resources? This would mean western troops on the ground. If this happens, several countries will be at war with Russia, and there could be nuclear war.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@emiliya why would it mean Western troops on the ground. The Ukrainians have shown they're capable of giving the barbarians a reality check - if we give them the means to do so, and if we remove the restrictions imposed by a timid White House.

russian sabre-rattling has long ceased to have any relevance, and has now become something of a standing joke.

The Russians are now renovating their 1962 tanks (T-62s)
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Your supervisors really do need to supply you with better material...

Pavel Luzin, an expert on Russian military capacity at the Centre for European Policy Analysis writes: Russia can build only 30 brand-new tanks a year. When the Ukrainians captured a supposedly new T-90m last year, they found that its gun was produced in 1992.

Luzin writes that Russia’s ability to build new tanks or infantry fighting vehicles, or even to refurbish old ones, is hampered by the difficulty of getting components. Stores of components for tank production that before the war were intended for use in 2025 have already been raided, while crucial equipment, such as fuel heaters for diesel engines, high-voltage electrical systems and infrared thermal imaging to identify targets, were all previously imported from Europe and their sale is now blocked by sanctions. The lack of high-quality ball bearings is also a constraint. Chinese alternatives are sometimes available, but do not meet quality standards.

Furthermore, the old Soviet armaments supply chain no longer exists. Ukraine, Georgia and East Germany were all important centres of weapons and components manufacture. Ironically, Kharkiv was the main producer of turrets for T-72 tanks

Russia thrives on chaos, and the west likes to use situations like this to reduce privacy and rights. Everyone in government is happy with a continuing conflict. Orwell made that point in 1984.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@meJess If Russia thrives on chaos why is the US the one causing all the chaos? Serious question since the one starting all the wars is the US.
meJess · F
@hippyjoe1955 Does it matter who starts these things?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@meJess Yes it does matter a lot. The US has a very bad habit of starting wars all over the world. Sadly it then turns tail and abandons its 'friends' leaving the war ravaged country in worse shape than before the war began.

@MarkPaul Define 'western democracies'.... Where are they - really?
Make them a member of NATO and win back their territory.
@zonavar68 Russia is our problem when they try to retake the Soviet Empire.

This was enabled by DJT because he was/is enraptured with tyrants. And an actually strong President would have made it clear that any move to retake the Soviet territories will be a bad thing.

So now Putin--who also helped DJT when he openly invited a foreign power to participate in our soveriegn election!--is in a big war w/Ukraine.

He didn't accomplish ANYthing with North Korea; in fact, he gave THAT tyrant a great PR coup for signing an agreement which meant NOTHING.

Now NK is shooting hypersonic delivery vehicles, threatening South Korea, Japan, and us.

He let our local agents the Kurds die, strengthening the power of the tyrant if Syria.

He backed out of the treaty controlling Iran's nuclear program...

So now we have Iran rattling its nuclear saber...

He expressed admiration for tyrants of all ilks...

And now we've had China cracking down on Hong Kong and threatening Taiwan.

He did so much to make us an international laughingstock that other free countries looked to Angela Merkel of Germany as "the leader of the free world".

And as he started, there was a mass departure of people from the State Department...

These hurt America's reputation and standing in the world, and esp. our position as a pre-eminent democratic republic.

That's not success in foreign policy.
