How to pay our debts? Tax the rich ofcourse.We have a society of homeless and families who are poor and millionaires who don't care about the poor!

As a christian who has a good income I don't mind to be taxed more. We can afford to do the right thing. We want a caring country, not a hateful fascist country! We want God's blessing!

@hippyjoe1955 asks
Where do you get the idea that Jesus wants you to feed the poor?
Jesus specifically says to feed the hungry. Have you never read the Bible??

Matthew 25:35-40 KJV
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
@hippyjoe1955 the least of these my brethren, dude. How can you not know that part of the Bible??
where Jesus told us to feed the poor by government fiat.
Government is a tool. The Bible doesn't specify which tools can or can't be used. There's no scriptural basis for your refusal to allow governments to help the hungry, the poor, the sick, etc. No scriptural basis whatsoever.

@ElwoodBlues Son your brain fog has severely limited your understanding of what others are saying. Go lie in the sun for a bit. You don't have many days left.
walabby · 61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues One knows when one is winning an argument when one's opponent resorts to insults and invective... XD
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@walabby Yes I know I am winning when guys like you chime in with your insults and invective. Carry on son. We all enjoy your wit and wisdom.

Why is it important to say as a Christian?
Guitarman123 · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 advocating for private ownership of the means of production at its most basic

@sunsporter1649 because socialists make money?

We want the plethora of jobs that the wealthy create. We want the benefits and income, the pride and self worth those jobs provide. We want low taxes and limited regulation so entrepreneurs and the wealthy can create even more jobs. I for one do not want forced charity (welfare programs) nor do I want to pay for services I may or may not receive from the government (taxes). God's got nothing to do with any of it😊
@SlaveEt The government's role is to fund projects that no private business would invest in because the risk is too high, like the space program or computers. Business then gets involved after the initial stage. Government can also move the economy in different directions through targeted tax breaks or grants. And of course, government has to regulate business as the free market's effect is very limited. The free market is great for stimulating competition, but sucks in ensuring that workers are paid adequately and that businesses don't destroy the environment in pursuit of profit. It's natural for a business to place short-term profit over the long-term health of the communities that support them.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
@LeopoldBloom
It is the role of the local population to regulate the local businesses and the easiest way to do that is with one's money. The same is true at the national level. Budlite is a perfect example, lol.
@SlaveEt That didn't even work with Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch is one of the largest beer distributors in the world with hundreds of brands. The people "boycotting" Bud Light probably switched to one of AB's other brands.

We also have a fissured economy. Even if Bud Light was a single brand, people buying it have no idea where it sources its products. Let's say the farm that grows the barley that goes into it has serious worker safety issues, or the trucking company that transports it isn't paying its workers. There's no way the end consumer will even know about these problems, and even if they do, they have no way of organizing their purchasing power to have any effect. For that, you need government regulation.

The free market as a regulatory mechanism only works in theory; it doesn't work in the real world. This is why there has never been a libertarian economy even attempted on a national scale.
Guitarman123 · 31-35, M
The work of the Labour movement today is to apply those principles of Christ’s teaching to modern industrial and economic problems so as to bring about the time when there shall be no poverty, either of body, mind, or spirit, but in a land, in a world so beautiful, so richly endowed, that there shall be abundance for all.”[1]

@boudinMan do the search and read the details. For example if you earn less that the cap on social security taxes, you pay that full percentage, if you earn a million dollars you still pay only to the cap, so the percentage of your income you pay in SS taxes alone goes down as your income rises. The lower your income, the less you can either defer or even never pay taxes on, the carry forward, or whatever it is called, deferral of taxes kicks in. Lastly, the hidden tax, the fact that the fixed expenses like food and lodging take up a far greater percentage of spendable income in the lower income ranges.

I doubt you will find many of the wealthiest US citizens paying anywhere near 50% of their assets on taxes.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@boudinMan
some wealthy people pay 50% in taxes when you include sales, local, and federal income taxes.
The maximum marginal income tax rate in the US is 37%. Sales taxes are less than 12%. How do you come up with a rich person paying more than 50% of their income in taxes? That doesn't happen even in high tax countries like Norway.
@ninalanyon
some wealthy people pay 50% in taxes when you include sales, local, and federal income taxes.
Some rando on facebook said it somewhere, so it must be true, LOL!!!
Well meaning but I wouldn't mingle your faith with politics as there are Christian right wingers who are Christ's disciples too.

I agree with you politically and I would love you to pay more so people like myself could pay less but it's not a be all or end all of your faith.
@LordShadowfire When they have a Pharisee like attitude to the afore mentioned people and even then it may be something in their heart that needs to change which God can purge.

I will rarely, if ever, doubt A Christian's testimony.
Carazaa · F
@BritishFailedAesthetic "These are those who love me, those who keep my commands." Jesus said. Some "christians" worship another god, Satan!

In Matthew 24 Jesus said to his disciples that a sign of the last days before he comes back is deception and cold hearts. Please don't believe everything you hear. If someone is not loving they are not following Jesus.
@Carazaa As Christians we all have areas in our lives we need to improve upon. I could understand salvation concerns if they read the daily stormer, etc but merely being a Trumper would not get me to question their salvation.

redredred · M
The rich are already paying most of the taxes. How much more theft is biblically consistent? Even your Bible only asked for 10%.
Gloomy · F
@redredred 😂😂

and you even did the taxation is theft bullshit... libertarians are a joke
redredred · M
@Gloomy it’s money taken by threat of being seized by armed men. If that’s not theft, give me your home address.

And the rich already fo pay most of the tax. That was the main point and you ignored it.

Ah yes because the government is so efficient with our tax money they will absolutely solve homelessness by taxing us more.

Here’s an idea donate to charities that help those in need
Capitalism leads us here. Neither party can side with the population and protect it from the richest people

So whenever Americans want, they certainly can address the wealth distribution problem. But they're not on the side of the population at present. They're on the elite, ecocidal oligarchy side.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roundandroundwego Not nealy as many as were killed by the great strides for equality in the USSR an Communist China
@hippyjoe1955 China moved half a billion people into the middle class from abject poverty in the past fifty years.
Americans have opted to crush their middle class- so now you're sicker and have shorter lives than Chinese people.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Roundandroundwego Only because it abandoned its former marxism. Maybe you live under a rock that you don't know that????
Repete · 61-69, M
By spending less than what we bring in, we all have to deal with a budget. Somehow people think the government can just make more money, it doesn’t or actually it should not work that way.

We need to raise the debt ceiling because we have already spent more than the budget that we had.
I learned a long time ago , I can spend what I earn ( and more if I don’t watch it) a whole lot easier than trying to make what I can spend.
This is just my opinion not that anyone wants to hear it.

Notice not once did I say Democrats or Republicans. We the people.

@jshm2 I know, right? These days, the safest way to rob a bank is to become the CEO of one.
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
The government is the least effective way of helping the poor. Give your extra money to local missions and food banks that are more effective. Also donate time if you are able
@Carazaa the Chinese raised a half billion from abject poverty to middle class in the past five decades.

@Carazaa Scandinavia are homos!
@GJOFJ3 exactly! And when you donate to missions, you take money out of that sinkhole that is the government
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
Nothing stopping you from mailing the irs a check....
justanothername · 51-55, M
The rich, elitists own the government and whether you like them or not, they do pay a share of taxes that others DON’T nor could they ever pay, and even the low life Eric Adams mayor of NYC had to acknowledge that much to his chagrin.
In this world, life, call it what you will, money talks and bullshit walks!

{@carazaa] i quiet agree it is time the rich started to help the less well off and the less fortunate . with successive right wing governments the have done well with tax breaks
here is one small solution
make all income taxed the same
capitol gains taxes are not the same as what a job gets you
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I don’t mind paying my fair share, what gets me is people making way more than 400,000 paying way less than I pay.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
So growing the economy so the poor can earn a better rate of pay is out of the question?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl some one sounds jealous. Envy is never a good thing. So tell me. How is it the rich guy's fault that the leaser only rents to the rich guy?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@hippyjoe1955 Did anything in that statement give the impression that I am jealous? People can do what they want with their wealth, but when their decisions exacerbate shortages and have a wider social impact then the state has the right to step in. No man is an island.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl the entire comment said you are jealous.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Actually, all that is needed is to stop giving tremendous tax breaks to the superrich.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I am gladdened to hear that 🙂 Unfortunately I think you are in the minority 💖
I wouldn't mind being taxed a little more either, if it didn't all go through the government
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa fatalistic it realistic? The price of airfare is very high in Canada. Why? Because the government used to own the big airline and limited the completion. Heath care has gone down in Canada since the government took over and eliminated private medicine.
@hippyjoe1955 Canadian Airlines started just a couple of years before Air Canada was privatized. Air fares are sky high everywhere because the industry just isn't lucrative
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP Not according to the guy who started Pacific Western Airlines. They couldn't access the lucrative routes which they could have used to subsidize the higher cost routes. Maybe you could find the Grant McConachie biio. Interesting reading.

I do find it interesting that rich guys like Jeff Bezos keep managing to pay ZERO income tax. The whole reason a family of four could exist on the income of one family member in the fifties was that the richest Americans were subject to something like 80% income tax. But I get called a Marxist for suggesting a return to that system. That's how good a job the rich have done of indoctrinating their worshipers.
