How to pay our debts? Tax the rich ofcourse.We have a society of homeless and families who are poor and millionaires who don't care about the poor!

As a christian who has a good income I don't mind to be taxed more. We can afford to do the right thing. We want a caring country, not a hateful fascist country! We want God's blessing!

The work of the Labour movement today is to apply those principles of Christ’s teaching to modern industrial and economic problems so as to bring about the time when there shall be no poverty, either of body, mind, or spirit, but in a land, in a world so beautiful, so richly endowed, that there shall be abundance for all.”[1]
Keir Hardie (1910)

@Guitarman123 The result of the labor party is widespread poverty. It always has been and always will be. You simply can not tax yourself to prosperity.
Guitarman123 · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 labour party created the NHS, Improved wages and workers rights and built affordable homes.

@Guitarman123 Oooo and we in Canada have medicare. We send people to the US for treatment because our waiting lists are too long. If that is your idea of 'equality' hard pass.
@Guitarman123 With respect to your posting, not criticizing it, but since the time of Jesus, and before, the world has been in strife. We are our own worst enemies from the wealthiest to the most poverty stricken in finances and mind and body, and the reality is; it is not going to change. If anything, it will only get worse.

@Carazaa If you are a socialist your father is not in heaven. A socialist worships Caesar not Yahweh.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 I am not a socialist. I come from a country with very democratic roots. I just think we can be much more fair in the USA. Tax the rich! Pay our debts!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa Define fair. How is taxing the rich fair? Even in the Bible there was a flat tax which is very fair.
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 It is fair because the rich have money and the poor can't pay their bills and we have to care about people and our country!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Carazaa So you think that taxing the rich will make things more affordable for the poor? Really? Here is a question for you. You have a million dollars and you want to do the most good for the most people by giving it away. Do you give it to a rich man or a poor man?
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@Carazaa we do tax the rich... they pay most of the taxes. the top 1% pay nearly half of all taxes.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@boudinMan The fact is that taxes and poverty are related only because taxes cause poverty. The silly idea that paying more taxes will ease poverty is a joke. The increase in taxes never goes to the poor. It goes to building new government buildings and new government empires and new computers to keep track of all the money not going to the poor. If you really want to help the poor stop feeling all self righteous about being able to pay more taxes and demand that taxes be reduced across the board. When that happens the economy grows and poverty is reduced by gainful employment not government handouts.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@boudinMan you need to read all of the information about taxation and what taxes are included in the discussion. There are other taxes than personal income taxes, some, like payroll taxes, social security, sales, etc., affect the lower income people disproportionately. To help those in the lower socioeconomic range requires creativity, train them for better jobs, remove barriers to advancement, aka racial, sexual and religious boundaries!
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 i'm not sure what you're trying to say... some wealthy people pay 50% in taxes when you include sales, local, and federal income taxes.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@boudinMan do the search and read the details. For example if you earn less that the cap on social security taxes, you pay that full percentage, if you earn a million dollars you still pay only to the cap, so the percentage of your income you pay in SS taxes alone goes down as your income rises. The lower your income, the less you can either defer or even never pay taxes on, the carry forward, or whatever it is called, deferral of taxes kicks in. Lastly, the hidden tax, the fact that the fixed expenses like food and lodging take up a far greater percentage of spendable income in the lower income ranges.

I doubt you will find many of the wealthiest US citizens paying anywhere near 50% of their assets on taxes.

@boudinMan
some wealthy people pay 50% in taxes when you include sales, local, and federal income taxes.
The maximum marginal income tax rate in the US is 37%. Sales taxes are less than 12%. How do you come up with a rich person paying more than 50% of their income in taxes? That doesn't happen even in high tax countries like Norway.
@ninalanyon
some wealthy people pay 50% in taxes when you include sales, local, and federal income taxes.
Some rando on facebook said it somewhere, so it must be true, LOL!!!
