How to pay our debts? Tax the rich ofcourse. We have a society of homeless and families who are poor and millionaires who don't care about the poor!

As a christian who has a good income I don't mind to be taxed more. We can afford to do the right thing. We want a caring country, not a hateful fascist country! We want God's blessing!

So growing the economy so the poor can earn a better rate of pay is out of the question?

@hippyjoe1955 Paying a little more in taxes will NOT hurt anyone it will pay the debt, it will NOT hurt the economy it will pay the debt, it will NOT stop the growth of the economy it will pay the debt!

@Carazaa You are on the side of Judas not Jesus. You remember Judas who was indignant that someone would waste a year's salary on perfume rather than feed the poor?
Carazaa · F
@hippyjoe1955 I care more about Jesus than money!

@Carazaa Then why are you always prattling on about money. I work among the poor on a daily basis. The last thing they need is more government money. Guess what we call the day the government welfare cheques hit the bank accounts of the 'poor'? We call it Mardi Gras. It becomes the biggest party you can imagine. The beggars on the street yesterday are riding in taxis today. The cheap plonk they were slugging back yesterday is replaced by the best beer and wine and vodka available. Your 'generosity is killing people not helping them. Poverty is a spiritual condition not a lack of money.

@hippyjoe1955 Irrespective of the rights or wrongs of putting money into the pockets of poor people and not dictating how they spend it, this is a good example of how to recycle government welfare funds in the local economy and generate real economic activity and more tax receipts (to fund the welfare programme). The alternative, to keep taxes low for the wealthiest, invariably ends up in the money being invested in dead end real estate where it benefits no one but a handful of professionals when the property eventually comes to be sold. Not all rich people are entrepreneurs who create wealth for others. Many are simply hoarders of wealth.

@SunshineGirl Taxing the rich NEVER results in economic growth. Giving taxpayers money tot he poor NEVER results in economic growth. That you have poor people, is indicative of too much taxation already.

@hippyjoe1955 One of our clients last year paid £80K for a parking place in a popular seaside resort where he owns a second home. He will use that spit for five weeks a year max. The rest of the year it will remain empty and deprive working people in the town of a scarce resource. The transaction was too low to attract property tax. Solicitors and estate agent probably took no more than £700 in fees. The alternative scenario is that you give £80K to local hospitality workers who actually need it to afford their rent and feed their families because of the wretched low wages they are meant to live on. Most of that money will quickly be spent on food and services in the local economy. That will benefit local businesses (more than my client ever will do as he drives down from London with provisions from an expensive national store) and support local jobs. Their children get to eat properly and can concentrate in school and earn qualifications that wil benefit them and society later in life. A portion of the money spent goes back to the exchequer in the form of VAT and local businessmen pay tax on their additional turnover. A virtuous circle of spending, economic activity and taxation that sadly will not occur if aforesaid rich person spends £80K on a parking space.

I'm not a professional economist, but I am quite good at maths 🙂

@SunshineGirl One problem - it's NOT anyone else's money to spend, spread, etc

@SunshineGirl some one sounds jealous. Envy is never a good thing. So tell me. How is it the rich guy's fault that the leaser only rents to the rich guy?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@hippyjoe1955 Did anything in that statement give the impression that I am jealous? People can do what they want with their wealth, but when their decisions exacerbate shortages and have a wider social impact then the state has the right to step in. No man is an island.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl the entire comment said you are jealous.
