Because it's the humane thing to do.
SW-User
@GoodCatholicGirl Exactly. Because generosity should be an American value (it always used to be, in previous generations, after all). And not just an American one; it should be a human value. It's past time to stop thinking in "us and them" terms.

SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
They’re talking about Medicare For All, correct? Not just undocumented immigrants getting free healthcare right? Your question is a bit misleading.

Here is how my whacky mind works... if anyone living in the US gets sick, they should not be left to die because they either cannot afford healthcare or they are undocumented.
daisymay · 51-55, T
@TheunderdogofNY Oh, so you can't address it, then? I see.

Run away!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@TheunderdogofNY As I said, your question isn’t genuine. I’m sure you, of all people, will not deny anyone medical treatment just because they are undocumented.
TheunderdogofNY · 36-40, M
@SimplyTracie well you are free to assume what you will about me. However I will say that you made some valid points I agree with. I'll leave it at that.
Miram · 31-35, F
As a doctor you take an oath to treat everyone to the best of your ability. I don't remember anything that says "except Mexicans".
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@Miram i spent a few seconds typing into google " malpractice suits impact on cost of care"
A couple of articles supporting what you are too dense to accept:
- https://online.tamucc.edu/articles/malpractice-and-its-effects-on-the-healthcare-industry.aspx
- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/15500024/
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@Miram but I'm sure that the US National Library of Medicine and the University of Texas A&M arent legitimate sources for you.
Miram · 31-35, F
@easterniowegin

The article and the study are fine. But I do question your reading comprehension skills now.

The first article doesn't demonstrate a correlation, rather it says patients are afraid it will increase doctor's fees and insurance fees. The way you're scared of that..

The second study also doesn't demonstrate a correlation, it is about how unlimited, uncapped litigation of malpractice affects health care. Already cases in courts in some states, not annual increases in insurance costs.

So , without a doubt, that too is not about your statement.

I suggest next time read before posting links to me and try to follow the topic.
Pherick · 41-45, M
Serious question. Why shouldn't they? They pay taxes, and normally get nothing back for them, as they don't get social services. So why shouldn't they get access to healthcare if they pay into it?
xinbaba · 61-69, M
@SW-User I agree they work harder. Unfortunately they are not paid a fair wage for how hard they work. Employers should be held accountable.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@xinbaba That actually I agree with 100%. You run a business and hire illegals, knowingly? Too bad, you get shut down.

Perhaps people wouldn't be so eager to come into this country illegally if they knew being illegal was pretty worthless in terms of earning a living.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@SW-User fukoff and blocked
It's pragmatism.

Illegal dude Jesus either gets access to healthcare to treat his diabetes...

... or he's going to walk into an ER with late stage kidney disease, a gangrenous foot, or a heart attack-- and the hospital is going to eat a couple $100K's...

... and guess what happens then.
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@beckyromero yeah they were required BY LAW to report in at the border when they crossed also. Lmao. That requirement was overlooked as well. Now suddenly they are law-abiding?? And giving the government their name and address!?? Naivete I think that is called.

Independent contractors are completely different...and still do not guarantee that any taxes are paid.
Employers do not withhold taxes for contractors...they simply submit a 1099 at the end of the year. Unfortunately, like most government ridiculousness, the illegals are left to pay their own taxes. Lol 🤦‍♂️

Unemployment, social security, and federal/state withholdings are not done by the employers...it is to be done by the contractor, as their own business.

Even many prevalent Democrats dont pay their taxes ...you really believe that illegals do? 😂
If you believe that, i might have a bridge or some ocean-front property in nevada to sell you.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@easterniowegin
Unemployment, social security, and federal/state withholdings are not done by the employers...it is to be done by the contractor, as their own business.
What part of "using a Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, or ITIN. This allows immigrants without Social Security numbers to legally file tax returns and claim the income reported on their W-2’s to the IRS" don't you understand?
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@easterniowegin
A recent analysis from New American Economy found that undocumented immigrants contributed $13.3 billion into the system via the payroll tax in 2016. This jibes with an AARP report that found $12 billion in payroll tax contributions from undocumented workers in 2010...

Here's another way to think about what undocumented immigrants have meant for Social Security. In 2018, the program generated a net cash surplus of nearly $3.2 billion, its smallest on record since the mid-1980s. Without a fairly steady level of payroll tax contributions from undocumented workers, Social Security would have expended more than it collected in revenue for the first time in 36 years last year.
gregloa · 61-69, M
If they want free healthcare they should go to Canada, you know the country where everyone pays HALF their freakin pay check in taxes to cover the cost of FREE healthcare. OMG no thanks. WE THE PEOPLE I think the democrats forgot that part.
@gregloa

No i really don't. I'm happy to pay taxes in return for public services.
I'm happy to pay into a system that will help people and help me if and when my turn comes up.

In short, i'm not selfish.
I guess that's the difference between you and me🤷🏻
gregloa · 61-69, M
So you’re Canadian and female @Pikachu
@gregloa

I am Canadian, yes.
Or at least it would be fair to say that i was born in canada.

Maybe that's why i'm not selfishly looking out for myself😉
curiosi · 61-69, F
Because the more freebies you hand out the more votes for the libs.
daisymay · 51-55, T
@curiosi Where are non-citizens voting? If you have proof of this, you need to let the FEC know, else you are aiding and abetting criminals.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
They must NOT. Do I get to use your credit card to pay my medical bills, the only claim I have being I snuck inside your house without your consent? IF the America people actually decide to this you will simply destroy your health system. Each bed in an emergency room taken up by an illegal alien is one less available for an American citizen whose tax money paid for that bed in the first place.

What is the matter with people who cannot figure this out?
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
It's not free, they pay taxes like everyone else. It's not only inhumane, but it's economically stupid to have a huge portion of the population without access to the same health care everyone else gets.
SW-User
I've worked with a good number of undocumented immigrants over the years and almost All of them paid income taxes..
Every year like clockwork..

They should be able to access all the services I do..

@SW-User 👍️
According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation analysis, undocumented immigrants are significantly more likely to be uninsured than U.S. citizens: 45 percent of undocumented immigrants are uninsured, versus about 8 percent of citizens.

So more than half of the undocumented immigrant population has some form of health insurance coverage. Kaiser Family Foundation’s Larry Levitt noted via Twitter that “some are buying non-group, but I’d agree that it’s primarily employer coverage.” And in 2014, Los Angeles Times writer Lisa Zamosky explained the various options that undocumented immigrants in California were using to obtain coverage, including student health plans, employer-sponsored coverage, and individual (i.e., non-group) plans purchased off-exchange (on-exchange, enrollees are required to provide proof of legal immigration status).

Uninsured undocumented immigrants do have access to some healthcare services, regardless of their ability to pay. Federal law (EMTALA) requires Medicare-participating hospitals to provide screening and stabilization services for anyone who enters their emergency rooms, without regard for insurance or residency status.

Since emergency rooms are the most expensive setting for healthcare, local officials in many areas have opted for less expensive alternatives. Of the 25 U.S counties with the largest number of undocumented immigrants, the Wall Street Journal reports that 20 have programs in place to fund primary and surgical care for low-income uninsured county residents, typically regardless of their immigration status.

@SW-User But, you see, to conservatives they aren't actually human.
Northwest · M
Because it’s a basic human right, and we’re human.
SW-User
I’m not hearing the word “free” in the question or the responses, but maybe I missed something.

@SW-User free by having others pay it for them.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yes you are. You are missing the moderators asking these clowns exactly what they MEAN when they say health care for all illegals...or are you suggesting illegal aliens bring enough cash with them from El Salvador or Angola to pay for their medical care?
SW-User
What I heard sounded like they were talking about access and also paying taxes into the system. I didn’t hear “free”. @winchesterbros
SW-User
We don't even get free health care as citizens ._.

However, the service of birth or life-saving action has to be free for all, no matter who came from where. THAT, I stand with no matter what because there is no price on life. Foreign, included
TheunderdogofNY · 36-40, M
@SW-User I agree with life saving measures. Birth is ok as well. I'm not ok with People intentionally trying to have children in the US when they don't belong here so that their child has citizenship. But that's just me.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I agree

Who do you think you are to state the Constitution is wrong on citizenship?

Everyone should as a basic human right.
SW-User
@Burnley123 Exactly. Health care is a basic human right, and should be treated as such, regardless of paperwork / country of citizenship / etc etc.

Summarize in your own words. It’s more honest that way.
he pretty much summarized it coming from a moderate democrat. this new european socialistic democratic party is going to split their party where those who dont support open borders and healthcare for illegals will become rhinos as they feel isolated off from the new democratic party.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Disease doesn't pay attention to immigration status and we end up paying for healthcare, anyway.

A breakout of TB or meningitis will cross lines right from gardener to homeowner, cleaner to mother, plant worker to supervisor.

When immigrants do get sick, they hit the ERs and county health departments. We're already paying for medical care a la carte, so why not formulate a working plan? Not giving immigrants health care is to ignore the reality of the situation and pretend they'll go away if healthcare does.
Don’t ask me.. pandering to ppl who do the wrong thing is so hot right now..

Because most of us prefer to take care of the sick in our society.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@beckyromero Most of us agree with you.
since we are allowing the US to have open borders and pay for their housing schooling and healthcare, why not have the US pay for every countries housing, schooling and healthcare? as some people put it "its just humane thing to do" right after they have an abortion to kill their offspring because to them thats "the right thing to do" too.
illegals supposedly already get some form of healthcare in the US. in the form of subsidized healthcare, tax payers funded.
@Abrienda that is true
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@winchesterbros And since this must obviously apply to illegals is there any statistical evidence that shows how much space and resources are taken up by non-citizens?

As a nurse, I can hardly believe this. I mean the whole idea is ridiculous and will COST lives not save them.
@Abrienda im not sure on that im still looking at info. but undocumented immigrants dont use medical facilities frequently as citizens do. because of cost.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
They're historically disaffected. They're systematically disimagined. They won't concentrate at camp. Wet sand in the underpants. Locusts.

Or think up anything crazy. They'll sell anything that might get a vote.
Specialyouare · 31-35, F
Illegal immigrants don’t get that though.
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@Specialyouare isn't that why laws exist, and why charities exist, and why we have an immigration system, that does work?!
Unfortunately we cant help everyone in the world. Hell, we cant even help our own veterans in this very country.
But it feels like moving to eliminate our sovereignty as a country and eliminate borders is throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Specialyouare · 31-35, F
But it’s complicated right? And it hurts right? That we can’t help everyone in the world. That being too selfless can destroy us. So intriguing that none of us asked to exist, or choose our body, mind, the world, and all it contains and we were all forced to adapt in fear of death or greater pain. And so crazy to realize our limitations as human individuals, right? 😢
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@Specialyouare this is what separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom...empathy, laws, etc. But we can be our own worst enemies, sometimes.

JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
Did you not ask this earlier this morning?
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@JaggedLittlePill yeah, the problem is that dems don't understand or care about the word "illegal". That's why they say "undocumented "...as if the definition is different. Lmao.
Whatever feels better to them.

To answer your question, yes all illegals are illegal and should be removed. But it doesnt do any good to bail out a boat until you patch the hole first.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@easterniowegin dems dems dems.

Maybe some people don't understand why it is a bad thing that people want to live here and contribute to the country. 🤷‍♀️

You dismissed the facts presented here...not surprising.
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@JaggedLittlePill it is NOT a bad thing to want to live here. It is, after all, the greatest country on the planet. They know it...everyone knows it.
But that doesnt automatically grant every person the right to come here. Otherwise, why don't we just begin taking over certain countries around the world and setting up US controlled areas within our empire, so they dont have to make the trip here?!
All 8billion on the planet cannot live in our country, simply because they want to.

Why not call them filthy scrounging aliens ?
TheunderdogofNY · 36-40, M
