Why do pro-Gunists still defend guns despite all the mass shootings and school shootings?

There was another shooting in a Chesapeake Walmart a week ago over a dispute.
Because there are more than 100 million owners of firearms in the US who want to be able to defend themselves if the unthinkable should happen, exercised their constitutional right and are not a threat to society.

@BizSuitStacy ok, I'm impressed with the site, but how in the heck did the FBI get paid to track home invasions?

It doesnt seem like an interstate crime.
@MistyCee Since when was the FBI's scope of collecting crime statistics limited to those that occur interstate? They track murder, assault, rape, larceny, arson, etc. A better question is why does the CDC track firearms homicides? And why are their annual firearm homicide stats always 25-40% higher than the FBI's?

Because those activist think that the govt wants there guns and all their rights soooo those individuals go overboard.

I fricken have at least 6 long guns and 5 handguns.... and i still wish they would ban assault rifles that are built strictly for killing humans. meaning AK47 or AR15 Types and the likes..... semi-auto as well as fully automatics ....
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
Because the instances of people defending themselves or others are far more prevalent than the tragedies, but the media is largely silent on these stories
WalterF · 70-79, M
Maybe for the same reason that people still defend cars even though they run down a lot of innocent victims
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@WalterF Cars are not made to run people over, they’re for transportation. When someone uses a car to run someone over they are misusing the car. When someone uses an AR-15 to kill 10 or more people they are using it for exactly what it was intended to do. It was designed to kill lots of people as quickly and efficiently as possible, and it did its job well. When is it ever appropriate for a civilian to do that?
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@JPWhoo Look up "speed shooting" on YouTube. Many weapons can be fired unbelievably quickly and reloaded in seconds. It doesn't matter the weapon used, it is the intent of a deranged mind that results in tragedy.
WalterF · 70-79, M
@JPWhoo I wasn't talking about the deliberate use of a vehicle to kill. I was talking about accidents. Cars, by existing, cause injury and death.

So that demented argument wheeled out during covid times, that "nobody is safe till everybody is safe", justifies the removal of all cars from the roads.

If you use that argument, then sure, there should be no guns
graphite · 61-69, M
Why do pro-drivers still defend cars despite 50,000 traffic deaths in 2021 alone?
eMortal · M
@graphite Why do you think people what to rob you?
graphite · 61-69, M
@eMortal Your words, not mine.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@graphite I have two responses to your original comment.

1. You’ve got a point, why drive a car when it’s safer and better for the environment to use public transit? We’d be a lot better off if we (Americans) made our cities more compact like they do in Europe so there would be less demand for cars.

2. Cars are designed for transportation. When a car crashes or runs someone over it’s because the car wasn’t being used properly. When someone takes an AR-15 into a school or shopping center and kills 10 or more people they are using it for its intended purpose. It was designed to kill lots of people as quickly and efficiently as possible, and it did its job well. When is it ever appropriate for a civilian to do that?
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
Well look at Russia their male citizens are being forced to fight the Ukrainians and don't have the weapons to say no we are not doing that
There was 4 stabbings at a college in Idaho. And they all died.(2 weeks ago)
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat Time to ban assault knives....
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Spoiledbrat True. And look at how much attention that generated because it was so unusual. Now if someone had shot 4 or more people, we would already have forgotten about it by now. Mass shootings happen almost every day in the US.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
I am terrified of woman drivers.
Let's take their right to drive away.
I can guarantee that the the amount of woman driver accidents will diminish to almost none existence.
@MistyCee
If you take the cars away from women, only testosterone maddened men will have cars.
Sounds oddly similar to, if you take guns away from law abiding citizens, only violent criminals will have guns.
@Dainbramadge lol. My own thought is all brains get a little damaged and polluted, etc., as they develop.

Please keep working with what you've got. That's all the rest of us can do.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@RedBaron Good show. LOL
Believe it or not I have been spelling it like that since EP.
That was back when I was using a PSP to get online with and it didn't have spell check and I suck at spelling.
I even asked a question a few months ago if I should change it and most of the people said no.
You are the first person to ever mention it. LOL
windinhishair · 61-69, M
It is simple. They love guns more than they love children.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User No need to be triggered over being exposed. Enjoy the day.
SW-User
@windinhishair And you use the word "triggered".... I'm living in a nightmare!
I'll enjoy the day. 😎

why do gun control advocates continually ignore the correct legal approach, which is the constitutional amendment process? is it their goal to reap campaign contributions for their rhetoric, while avoiding actual governance activities?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SusanInFlorida The job of SCOTUS is literally to interpret the Constitution. Their rulings have the effect of law. The Constitution can be amended, but amendments are also subject to SCOTUS interpretation. The Court has reversed their rulings on a number of major topics in the past, including school segregation in Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896 and its reversal in the 1954 Brown v. Topeka Board of Education decision. I don't find that hilarious. It is how things work. Reversals are fortunately not very common, and do not follow the pattern you suggest would be hilarious.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SusanInFlorida For your education, here are several portions of Scalia's majority opinion on the Heller case:
Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited," Scalia wrote as he laid out certain exceptions. History demonstrates, Scalia said, "the right was not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.

Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment, nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.
This reflects the current state of the law on gun ownership. Clearly, additional laws on sale of arms (such as an assault weapons ban) are legal, as are other limitations.
@SusanInFlorida yup, to all of those.

Because they love guns. Really love guns .It's pretty simple. All this right to arms and 2nd amendment stuff is just bullshit to try and justify an undying love for something used to kill. The proof of that is a lot of these guys own a whole arsenal of guns, not just one or two for protection.
I guess it makes them feel powerful or special or well endowed or something .
eMortal · M
Human lives aren’t significant unless it’s a close relative.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@justanothername You mean these dudes are NRA members?

eMortal · M
@justanothername The NRA has a powerful lobby in Congress but the issue is deeper than that.
Basically people buy guns to protect themselves from the unrest caused by severe inequalities.
Gun ownership is also a way to give the middle finger to the Federal government.
When it comes quantity and quality, gun ownership is like sex in high school. 😂 We overestimate how much others are doing it!!! We feel left behind. You see a hand gun in a home invasion incident, the first instinct is to buy AR15, just to be ”sure” 😌. You can’t possibly tell them an AR15 is not needed to defend a house. The answer you get is “but criminals have them!”. Sure, why not dig up trenches and put a machine gun in front of your house! 😀
The recent stabbing incident where 4 unfortunate university students died shows that if someone really wants to hurt you, even a knife will do serious damage.
eMortal · M
@sunsporter1649 when we say no guns, it means NRA and non-NRA members included. If later on one acquires a gun illegally, let the police deal with that. We pay taxes for reason. Let’s not police ourselves.
I don’t think prohibition will ever work for the American people. Granted, I don’t believe in owning guns the government knows about.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
There's no gun problem, There's an idiot problem.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Virgo79 Agreed. The Cultist idiots refuse reasonable gun control measures, and the killings and mass shootings go on and on and on.......
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@windinhishair a mirror will reveal a real cultist.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Virgo79 You see one looking back at you every day.
Dino11 · M
We need better gun laws and better police to enforce the new laws.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@Dino11 apparently there are diferences of opinion in the general population as to what "better" is. that's why the constitutional amendment process was invented by the founding fathers. to foster informed debate, and resolution
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@peaceandnamate] 😣 sadly because to them in the united states this is the second amendment which says you have right too bear arms . they cannot see outside the box sadly and the danger this brings when guns get into the wrong hands like today and other mass shootings
graphite · 61-69, M
@smiler2012 Meanwhile, England is talking about knife control, to control dangerous criminals there, and acid attacks are a thing, too.

@graphite not saying england is violent crime free but america seems too suffer a lot of gun crime and shootings
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
It appears to me that the pro gun folks think that only good people have guns and make good decisions. They are so afraid of losing power to the people that get elected into office. They have no confidence in the democratic process. Only by putting a czar in charge would they feel safe when just the opposite would be true.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
I'm still trying to figure that one out. When all of the newscasts have lead stories about someone getting shot, you have to think that something is wrong with this picture
I'm really thinking pro-gunist is not right. Seems like there should be two ns at least.

Or maybe just drop the niceties and call the pro-shooting crowd pro-shooters.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@sunsporter1649 Do you support the constitutional right to arm bears?
Max41 · 26-30, M
People defend many stupid things in the world , but they cannot abandon it .
But there are many opposers of it as well .
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
Its never going to sink in to the advantage US citizen that guns are a problem, maybe if one day some high up politicians children are shot dead things will change but until then the killings will continue and maybe more often.
They’re in some "lala-land" where they think there weren’t enough guns. They think some mythical "good guy" could’ve come in and saved everyone. But it almost never happens that way. There was an entire police force in Uvale outside that grade school, and yet 22 people still died.

As far as all guns going away, that is never going to happen. That’s the "lala-land" some folks on the left inhabit. The best that can be hoped for is that we learn to stop trying to solve all our problems with guns. Because we didn’t always. This is relatively new, like in the last 25 years.
