Maybe for the same reason that people still defend cars even though they run down a lot of innocent victims
@WalterF Cars are not made to run people over, they’re for transportation. When someone uses a car to run someone over they are misusing the car. When someone uses an AR-15 to kill 10 or more people they are using it for exactly what it was intended to do. It was designed to kill lots of people as quickly and efficiently as possible, and it did its job well. When is it ever appropriate for a civilian to do that?

@JPWhoo I wasn't talking about the deliberate use of a vehicle to kill. I was talking about accidents. Cars, by existing, cause injury and death.
So that demented argument wheeled out during covid times, that "nobody is safe till everybody is safe", justifies the removal of all cars from the roads.
If you use that argument, then sure, there should be no guns
