Why are baby humans so useless?

If you was a giraffe you’d be up and waking around 30minutes after being born. Humans are useless for the first 2 years.

Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
It takes a long time for the human brain to develop fully.
And of course some never do.
The ones that never do are often found on SW. 🙄
@Thinkerbell That’s a fire hazard
pride49 · 31-35, M
@Thinkerbell I thought they were found in the white house
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@pride49

Yeah, there too, as well as the rest of Washington. 🙄
WanderlustCat · 36-40, M
I’d argue that some humans are still useless well after 40 years.
@WanderlustCat Hey! 😆
Matt85 · 36-40, M
They're not, they are cute and funny.
@Matt85 You mean noisy and disgusting
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@LosSantosNPC I mean there are some unpleasent factors to parenting but babies are just innocent little beings and they are not like their own species. Everyone you love or idolize was once a baby.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Philosophers in ancient Greece saw this as evidence that humans must not always have been in the form they currently are in, or else the race would not have survived.

It was a crude early theory of Evolution.
True but in first grade kids can read. I don't think I've ever seen a giraffe read
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters No but they can trample a lion.

First grader, you’re up…
AbbySvenz · F
@AbbySvenz Lion wins
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Same reason why giving birth is such hell for humans. Giant brains. It takes a while.
They're super cute and cuddly.
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
It has something to do with evolution… a baby giraffe would be lion food if it didn’t move within a short time of being born.. well that’s my theory anyway…
@InquisitiveMind Baby primates aren’t safe from this.
@LosSantosNPC Trees vs. savannah...
MethDozer · M
@LosSantosNPC our genes come from tree climbers/dwellers. So during our evolution it wouldn't have been as critical.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Human beings have much greater potential than animals so they have a longer infancy and childhood
@Muthafukajones allegedly

They spend their time learning other things like language. And other things like appropriate behaviors. Things that require some type of judgement. As limited as that may seem.

Which is more helpful when someone else takes care of your needs?

Humanity was meant to take care of needs of the young so they can learn other things.

Show the animal that can even do baby talk?

Sometimes it can be mimicked in animals. Yet it takes just as long and without really understanding what it's saying. It's too busy doing things to survive.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
because i said so
kodiac · 22-25, M
Babies are born with the ability to love unconditionally sadly we seem to outgrow that ability.When i walk into a room and the baby recognizes me and smiles nothing else compares to that feeling
smiler2012 · 56-60
@LosSantosNPC in the animal kingdom it is all a case of survival as there are predators around who will not stop too see you as a meal so you need too be on your game fasters than human babies
IamBack · 31-35, M
Some humans are useless for the first 70 years of their lives so we’re good if babies only remain useless for 2 years nowadays lol
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Because we are alien/primate hybrids. We do not truly belong on this planet.
bugeye · 26-30, F
Depends on how you use them. I know s8ngle dads who use them as the ultimate wingman
Straylight · 31-35, F
Baby humans take forever to get their operating system booted up! 🙄
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
Most most of us in the wild and we'll still be useless
SW-User
Baby humans don't have to worry about predators
likesnatural · 70-79, M
It makes us better caring for and training them.
plungesponge · 41-45, M
We gotta build up that big brain energy
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Because mammals
@Burnley123 The giraffe is a mammal.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@LosSantosNPC I was being glib.

TBF, maybe there is a point to this in the sense that from a weakness can emerge a strength.

Because human babies are so weak, they need caring. This in turn needs support and communal structure to protect a rear them. Such creatures have to work together, learn new things and... end up dominating the earth.

Food for thought...
What about puppies?
@littlepuppywantanewlife Puppies don't take nearly as long as humans.
@LordShadowfire Yes. They are cuties 😁
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
Humans suck boobs - nuff said 8-)
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Baby humans are pure love.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
I’m 30 but I’m useless. 😟
SW-User
@mindstruggle Let's fix that. Let's get married.
SW-User
Then don't have one
HannahSky · F
They're adorable
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
I'm thinking about the all the adults seen looting. Those are effing parasites of society.
@lumberjackslam What’s that got to do with my question?

it takes a lot longer for us to become functional because of our advanced brains. It takes a lot of energy to form it and teach it.
@MartinTheFirst No wonder human babies are so tasty
DDonde · 31-35, M
It's because we walk upright.
That's the price we pay for having such huge brains. It takes longer for them to develop.
NinaTina · 26-30, F
Some are useless way longer look at biden
@NinaTina F Trump
MethDozer · M
Bipedal movement is a huge part of it. We aren't really well designed for it. We're designed enough for it though to make four legged movement difficult. So we're dependent for complete support from our family and tribe unit. The other factor is our increased brain function has a lot to structure. We also live a pretty long natural life for a mammal. Not the longest but it is a good one.

@SW-User That would depend on your place in the food chain.
