After I lost my parents, no. I like to celebrate others, but my own is just sad.
@AlchemyFox Same with me. But even when my parents were around, there was, maybe, a card or a phone call, but no celebration. For me, my birthday is just another day.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
As long as i keep having them, i am happy.
4meAndyou · F
Not anymore. It used to be a big deal for me. I loved the celebration, the gifts, the birthday cake...and now the only one left who could do that for me would be my son, and he really, really doesn't care about my birthdays. I am lucky if he calls me and wishes me a happy birthday. AND he doesn't want to spend too long on the phone.

Last year was my first excellent birthday for a LONG time, because I had absolutely no expectations...not from anyone. I gave up on expectations. AND because I was finally able to be realistic, I didn't suffer.
WillaKissing · 56-60
Yes, I care about mine and all of my family and friends' birthdays. My mother always made a cake and big deal about it and that stuck with me.
SW-User
@WillaKissing what about your own one
WillaKissing · 56-60
@SW-User Yes.
ExtremeNext · 31-35
Yes I hate everbody who forgets even family and friends
Musicman · 61-69, M
@ExtremeNext My own parents forgot my birthday twice.
No. I think I stopped caring about it back in my 30's. It just reminds me I'm getting older.
Nanoose · 61-69, M
I do because there are parades and fireworks on my birthday. I share my birthday with Canada's birthday July first. Cheers an happy weekend!
Musicman · 61-69, M
Yes I do. Of course I am the only one, but I do believe it should be a national holiday! 😎
I dont care about any bodies birthday…
Bluebirdsonmyshoulder · 46-50, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout same, except kids really other than that I think it’s ridiculous
nedkelly · 61-69, M
NO, I only worry about the kids and grandkids these days
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I do care.

It has been a long time since there was a "big" celebration on my birthday. My wife and I will order take-out from a restaurant I like, and there will be dessert. She gets me a small but meaningful present.

But more than that, my birthday is a time when I reflect on my life. It still boggles my mind to think of all that has happened between infancy and the present.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I do now. When I know I share it with people I love.
In a way
I think I want to know it matters to someone else.
Someone that cares enough to spend a little time with me and enjoy a moment.
and cake, Id really like cake.
I dont ever get cake, but one time since moving out of my parents house. I guess that one time was all I get.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Bluebirdsonmyshoulder🤔 no not really i think they rather loose that sense of importance as you get older though they may be a special day
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@smiler2012 I hope Mrs Smiler gives you one on your birthday
smiler2012 · 56-60
@nedkelly 😯😆i hope you do not mean what i think you mean ned oh the thought of it lol

I like to keep to myself and the people that are really close to me.. I don't like too many people greeting me when it's my birthday.. I like to say low key
exexec · 61-69, C
No. It is always near or on Thanksgiving Day, so my birthday has usually gone unnoticed. I prefer to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I really don't. It reminds me that I'm running out of time.
Not much anymore, but others seem to

You?
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
No I have 49 for many birthdays now
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I guess it would be nice to just have a day doing anything I wanted to... but I don't think I've ever been able to do that due to construction for other people so ....
looping · 18-21
no and i wish the people around me wouldn't make it whole thing either. each birthday i wake up feeling sick from how nervous i get. i don't like the attention.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I have spent so many alone it doesn't matter to me anymore. Just another day older. No different than the last 6,192 days.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Only I care about my birthday.
SW-User
Yes, only because it's an excuse to spend time with people close to me and party.
HannahSky · F
I don't not care but I don't need a big party 🎉
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Sort of, but not really.
Not since I turned 21
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It would be nice if my husband would just acknowledge it but saying “Happy Birthday”.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@SooperSarah yes it is. It will just be another disappointing one.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@BLP11520 Sorry she doesn’t
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
@iamonfire696 She has some weird hang up about it?
50-50. 😵‍💫
Less so than before, but I’m glad they’re still coming.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
If I didn't have the first one, I wouldn't be here.
Unquestioned · 70-79, M
It's just another day in my life. I did look at my 70th as being somewhat of a milestone though.

After my Dad died when I was ten, I used to lie to my classmates and teachers because I hated birthdays after that.
SW-User
@NativePortlander1970 lie that you liked them?
@SW-User No, I lied when my birthday was, because after my Dad died I hated celebrating my birthday, because he wasn't there.
PinkSakura · F
I love birthdays 🎂 writing cards, birthday cake. Everyone should have a 'me' day once a year.
