US Healthcare is a joke

I always tell people if I'm not dying or otherwise I'm not doing hospitals or ambulance rides i usually fix myself why?

because a sliced finger from a kitchen mishap that requires three small stitches ( Even with medical insurance) should not run me about $1,500 absolutely ridiculous or them still charging you but saying nothing is wrong the biggest theives in the country and sadly a lot of people are following me. for the average joe we just can't afford to go to hospitals anymore and it will get worse.

I feel for ya. I have my health care through the Veterans Hospitals, and it is excellent. But like you with just three stitches super glue or a tight band aid fixes that one for me after I had used alcohol or peroxide to clean the wound.

I hate leaving my farm is my issue. And like you if it is a simple fix, I will do it myself.

You are correct. I have a cousin who was a Dr. and he quit over 20 years ago because he had to make $250,000 a year, before he showed a profit, because of malpractice insurance.

Was it "coinsurance" ? (pay a percentage up to a max limit)

Fortunately I only have copays, usually $25 to $40 per doctor visit. For hospital emergencies and stays, my max is capped at $750. This worked immensely in my favor since I was there a month and the final bill to the insurance company was $175,000!!

Yet my maximum out-of-pocket is $5000.

I wonder how much in premiums I have paid, though, over last last 27 years?

My gf's dad is a roofer, and one day he cut open his thumb almost to the bone. He literally just washed it and held it together with super glue and duct tape. He had kids to feed, he couldn't afford the hospital bill.

Never sought treatment for it as far as I'm aware. Also never got feeling back in those nerve endings, so yeah. Tradeoffs

@TinyViolins so proving we need a single payer, universal health care program!

Depends on the plan you are provided or the one you choose. The more you pay upfront (higher premiums), the less you pay at the point of service during your time of need. If it's a cheap plan, you will owe quite a bit. You can purchase supplemental policies for emergency room visits. The healthcare here is top-notch, but it's not free (the reason why it's top-notch).

True. During covid Americans paid three times more than Canadians to be three times more likely to die. Universal helathcare is possibly nine times better.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
That is appalling. And I wonder what small portion of that sum goes to the nurse who actually does the stitching?
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@SunshineGirl dont know where you are, but nurses dont stitch or staple.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Patriot96 My wife does and has treated similar wounds outside of hospital. She is paid a little less than £22 per hour (approx $30).

Youve never been to canada or GB

The joke is the way US citizens take care of themselves , then expect the govt to fix their self created health problems. That’s the REAL joke. The govt wants you to die before you collect social security . Duh

"For profit."

The evil of big pharma and insurance companies.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Just lie down by the curb until the ambulance shows up
meJess · F
@Patriot96 unless it’s a private ambulance, they bill you for the ride in the US
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@meJess well someone needs to pay for the ambulance.
