@xmedleft Actually, I was trying to interact with the state health dept in mid january. I had a friend, a couple, who had been in Italy in Dec and earlyJan. and came down with a terrible "flu syndrome," but after I forced them to go to be tested, were found not to have flu, and I asked for the state to test them for other viruses, we were refused! Imagine if they might have had covid and the presence found, what might have been prevented! We were in Afric in Febuary and I tried to keep in contact with the state health department but they were not really geared up for anything. We returned to the US on March 7th and I had a local Board of Health, of which I am a member, meeting on March 9th, that is when I started getting voistrous about the outbreak, no one listened. I don't remember when the state strated to get serious. I was on a conference call about testing ain mid March, I asked about false negatives, reflecting that my ER/IU colleagues reported at least a 305 false negative reate, the state denied any knowledge of that! So there was widespread refusal to take things seriously enough.
@samueltyler2 From the couple in Italy bringing in it sounds like you could be in Virginia. The 1st couple of cases we had in my region were a case from Italu then a case from Egypt. Ah, I remember it so well, the days it could be tracked so easily and individuals with it made the news...
@xmedleft I lived my academic career making the "experts" in the health department eat their words on many diagnoses I made. I can't really believe, in retrospect, how they denied my requests.
hi my friends ... I made a post on February 4th ... that was the beginning of the coronavirus ... now the whole world is at the mercy of this virus ... are you still not afraid of coronavirus? I'm afraid for myself ... for my family
not now but in a month's time maybe it is deadlier than the flu and SARS if it carries on this will have an impact on economies too but maybe i am being a pessimist

If the coronavirus should become an epidemic, just take the usual precautions you would take for avoiding the flu.... wash your hands a lot, avoid crowds, avoid eating out, etc.
Maybe the coronavirus is Islamophobic, developed in a Chinese laboratory to eradicate the Muslims in western China. That would be cheaper than keeping them in concentration camps.
@SW-User except its not a flue and we are just at the beginning of its spread. We don't know the death amount, CCP was never honest with numbers. Due to impact it has on China's economy, USA is going to be hit hard in few months time.
@Darina which is true. It's up to the business if their employees or customers should wear mask in their store. But as a person,always good to wear a mask
Yeah, news says its getting worse despite rushing against time to find a vaccine that actually works. In the meantime I just came to terms that it may be the apocalypse....😶
If fear is what is needed for people to act responsibly then it is okay if they have fear. What they need is sense enough to understand the dangers we are facing, and help to prevent further spread of the virus. In this case, you are your "brother's keepers." since even if we don't care if we are infected, which is a bit silly, then think of your friends and relatives that you would put into risk if you become infected!

I’m just sat here looking at memes of it. I’m making light of the situation as I’m scared of catching it myself. No illness or disease is funny but I cope that way.
Concerned but not really scared. Roughly 2% mortality rate, which is higher than the flue, but still means you have 98% chance of surviving if you are unfortunate enough to get it.
What will be will be. The majority of masks don’t help, and it’s carried contagious for up to two weeks without symptoms so really there’s very little you can do. I choose not to live in fear.

I am very frightened. This virus seems to be very virulent. It could end up as a serious pandemic. I am at an age when it could be even more dangerous than if I were a young man!
I think U.S. officials do the best they can. We may not always agree. We never will. Closing down the country was a tough decision. But we did it and here we are.
Pretty concerned with school about to start. I don't like the idea of putting kids in so much risk. There's also a lot of kids these days raised by more at risk grandparents instead of parents.

@Darina there is a virus no doubt. But I am a director of safety. The numbers do not add up. The fatality rate is lower than many other illnesses that we see everyday. The media and the government are not telling the whole truth. Like I said I’ve seen this kind of blatant media distortion to many times.
@GeorgeandGina I don’t deny there is a disease and it can be deadly. Just like many other diseases. I take precautions but I’m not going to stop living.

I don’t find the virus itself scary but the intentions of the cover ups is what I find very concerning.
